Exercise Check-in for June, 2013

Post anything about exercise and activity here.

We can just check in with a report of the day's workout,
Or give encouragement, ask for advice, tell about victories, offer tips and ideas.

Also feel free to tally up your last month's exercise/hours, or let us know results such as inch loss, new flexibility, stamina increases.

We'd love to hear about them and cheer! If you like, post them at the end of last month's May thread, too.

Hi, Mike. Great workouts. That's very helpful to know exactly how many calories you've burned.

My report for May is 1/4-inch each trimmer at ribs, waist, abs and hip. It's great, but just noticing that in April when I could do more T-Tapp there was a better inch loss.

Although I was probably even more active in May than in April, a greater percentage was gardening rather than targeted workouts.

How are our hula-hoopers doing? Got to be the most fun workouts to think about!

All my workouts are T-Tapp unless noted

June 2 - 30 minute standing workout

My poor hula hoop is gathering dust. Whenever I use it outside, the dogs try to get involved and I end up smacking at least one of them in the head.

My favorite Zumba instructor is back after a couple of months. She lost her Zumba certification (I'm not really sure why, except maybe because she was gone for so long?), but anyway, since she can't teach Zumba until she gets recertified, she's teaching a different "dance" class tonight. I really want to go, but I'm having some sciatic pain, so I'm not sure if I'm going to make it. Hoping for the best!!

6/1 - 2.5 hr hike in the hills with family
6/3 - gardening (this will be my exercise for the next 3 days since I have a big project I have to get done by Thursday morning. It definitely works up a sweat, increases heart rate, tires me out, and makes me sore. 2 hrs 45 mins so far today)

Ran the Calgary Half Marthon last week and am now training for the Banff Half Marathon at the end of June. Planning to do a weight training session tomorrow morning using my son's bowflex. June is off to a good start!

Christina, Whatcha planting? I'm glad my difficult outdoor work is over now, because the gardening just didn't trim my torso like targeted workouts. Still, loving the flowers and seeing tiny tomatoes starting out.

Scott, you are really getting in the steps. Do you use the FitBit at night like some do, to see how well you're sleeping?

WooHoo, Babs! You are so brave, for one thing. But what I admire is the follow-through to plan on a marathon, train, and get 'er done. Save souvenirs, get photos!

Dawn, won't they eventually get bored with your toy? When I actually TRY to get my dog to play with something, she walks away and yawns! Glad you found your fav instructor again.

The one I have now(Zip) doesn't do sleep or floors. I used to have an Ultra(Original model) and it did. I used it a couple times to see how I was sleeping then got bored with that feature. I went with the Zip because it was $40 cheaper and uses a replacable battery that lasts 4-6months.

Whitlin', you would think they would, but they haven't yet. I guess I need to do it more so they become desensitized.

I ended up going to my class last night, and it was pretty close to the same choreography, so it was fun. 429 calories burned.

Dawn- Glad your sciatic nerve issue settled down so you could go to the class.

Thanks Whitlin' for the incouragement! I was actually supposed to do the Marathon this spring but got bronchitus last month and switched to the half. It was fun and not so stressful plus I liked not hobbling ariound for a week after the race! I see more shorter races in my future.

Had to look up what a fitbit was and it looks great! Especially since it works with other apps. Looks like it would be very helpful with keeping track of everything.

Hope everyone enjoys their week!

I haven't been posting it, but I have been doing my hula hoop several times a week. I'm slowly building up the amount of time I can do it, and it is quite fun! No bruises at all. My arms still get tired holding them up and out of the way! I have also been doing some upper body weight work with light weights, and I think I'm seeing some new definition in my upper arms and shoulders.

You guys' routines make me . You're all so active and getting so fit! I know I'll probably do more as I lose more.

I really shouldn't have called it gardening ... it is clean-up yard work (weeding, trimming, hauling). I know, I hate to give up my normal routine for yard work, but I can't physically do both ... it's just for a few days.

I love the hula hoop. It doesn't feel like a workout at all. Except when I do the arm circles...I feel that at the time.
Have been thinking of HIIT that has been talked about recently. With a jumprope. Maybe alternate the hoop and jump rope.

Zumba tonight. I haven't done it on a fasting day in quite a while. I may end up with negative net calories. That's always a good thing!
