Okay. I was afraid I would jinx myself once I came out of lurkdom. I was almost thru with a DD, when my friend realized tonight was the only night we could get together...blah, blah, blah.
Well, we wound up having a dinner with wine, blah, blah, blah. We shall see. I keep thinking that my week will be more of a maintenance, 5:2, sort of week. Is that an okay way to take a ruined DD? I'd love to keep losing a few more pounds, but I'll accept maintaining. I guess I should just go to bed and see what happens in the morning.

Well, I was up 6 lbs. It is now gone. Meanwhile, some of my UDs were quite indulgent. I feel like I am able to go out socially and not have some scare at the scale that I have to go through hellish correction days to get back down.
I am doing the every other day, but will prob switch to 5:2 for maintenance. If I look into my crystal ball, I bet I get close to my goal around the time I go on vacation. I'll take off for those 10 days. So I'll need the 4:3 when I get back. It will be a while before I am 5:2.
I have been reading thru the JUDDD pages. I have found this site to be very helpful. Thank you!
You're doing great! And you're so close to goal. This site is awesome and I'm glad you posted and will become one of us!

WTG! Isn't it a great feeling to have treats, to wake up not starving and not craving all the crazy things you dreamed about yesterday? Oh yeah, and 2 POUNDS LIGHTER!

You know, it happens. I wouldn't worry about it. You have to be able to enjoy friends and family when opportunities arise - as long as it's not every day!

Thanks, everyone. You are all correct. I am a little spazzy, I guess. Having lost the same 20 lbs a couple...few...many times, I am a little quick on the trigger. That is what I love about JUDDD. It will boost my confidence.
BTW, I am down a pound! I am five away from goal!

I started JUDDDD on June 1st and basically failed on my second DD. I was trying to eat my calories at even intervals throughout the day…..didn’t work for me….too hungry by bedtime. I think since I had previously done the South Beach Diet, I had the mentality that it was better to eat throughout the day to keep from getting hungry. I restarted again on June 7th……I have made it through 3 DD’s (yay!) I am now waiting until later in the day (around noon) to start eating on my DD’s and I think it is working much better. I think I am going to enjoy this program much more than South Beach. On SB I was always wanting my carbs and felt very deprived. So far I don’t feel deprived. I am not used to counting calories and will probably only do it until I get used to what I can eat for my UD’s. My DD’s are just coffee with SF creamer and 2 protein shakes…I’ll add some broth if too hungry.) My UD's are between 1628-1865 (I will lower this if it seems to be too much....but so far is working for me )

6/7 DD (520) 146.6
6/8 UD (1635)
6/9 DD (420)
6/10 UD (1835)
6/11 DD (420)
6/12 UD (planned ~ 1740) 143.8

Down almost 3 lbs. I plan to try to add in some exercise soon.

Debbie you are doing a great job there. It is all about trial and error at the beginning. We all get around our DDs in our own way. I wasn't used to counting calories either but it has become second nature to me now.

Debbie, I know what you mean - as I have done SB previously to JUDDD. I too felt more deprived on SB and ate lots of little meals throughout the day also. If I slipped up on SB I would have bad carb crashes. I am finding after 6 weeks on JUDDD that I can do the EOD rotations easily and do not even need to eat all day. I do much better on my DDs with lunch and dinner, skipping breakfast. And don't even awake on an UD ready to eat right away.

Good luck as you journey on with JUDDD - and congrats on the loss so far!

You are all so welcoming. I appreciate it.
Debbie, your losses are great. I am revisiting the low cal meals I ate while on WW for like ten years! Thankfully, I've had a nice long break from them so I don't mind eating them again. One of my favs is the rainbow slaw (prepackaged cole slaw mix) with broth and chipotle laughing cow melted into broth. It is very filling.

I just switched over from the newbies board ( thanks to Cindy for telling me!) and I just finished my first week of JUDDD after doing 8 weeks of atkins with only a 2 pound loss after 4 weeks of induction and then switching to the Fat Fast and losing another 3 pounds and basically starving!! Before that I did Medifast and lost 20 pounds. Basically a professional dieter!
I've been doing 500 DD and 2000 UD for my first 2 weeks and exercising 4-5 days a week for 45" I will probably switch to the lower calculations after 2 weeks with the "little to no exercise" numbers to try and lose quicker.

At the end of my first week when I compared my DD weight I've lost about .5 pounds. I figured it is better than nothing since I really wasn't eating carbs. before and was told I would regain some water weight? I did feel very bloated off and on during my first week and would go to the bathroom every hour practically on my DD. I know I'm a very slow loser due to thyroid and metabolic resistance to weight loss due to yo yo dieting but this is the most enjoyable way I've ever dieted!! I just hope it works! Good luck to everyone!

Great to have you here Beebop! It sounds like you've tried everything under the sun (I'll bet we all have!) and finally found the Holy Grail of JUDDD. Yes, adding carbs back will definitely make your weight go up at first, but then you'll be so happy you're doing this WOE.

I'm sure you will have great success as well, but you may wish to bring your numbers more in line with 1760/350 vs 2000/500 since your weekly deficit will not be as much with 2000 calorie UDs. Even 1800/400 might help speed up losses. However, there is nothing wrong with slow, steady and enjoyable and I would think 2000 eod must be pretty enjoyable

Hi everyone!! I am on DD#2 today...didnt eat until 1:00 and wasnt starving...that is such a cool feeling to not want to eat my arm off. Last night i had 433 calories left to make it to 1650...and I had a mini Cookie Dough Blizzard...for 420 calories!! I was so excited to know I could eat this and it was ok!! JUDDD rocks...so much!! I am just a happy camper right now. And I am thinking about what I am allowed to eat tomorrow...usually I would be feeling a lot of resentment because I am dieting and I can't have this or that...and I would cave and eat what I want and start again the next day. JUDDD is so freeing I love it !!! Hope everyone has a great day today!!

My very first post! I'm starting JUDDD tomorrow and feeling really good about it! Previous failed diets this year - 1) low cal + crazy cardio, killed my metabolism, lost 3 whole lbs in 1.5 months 2) super low carb - made me nauseus sick maybe because of low blood sugar. So I was very happy to have sort of accidentally come across JUDDD because it seems to be one of the few diets where I won't have to worry about my metabolism and maintaining. I hope.

So what are some good shakes that people like? I'm thinking next two weeks will be morning coffee+half/half, shake around 1-2pm, shake around 7-8pm. So it's my understanding first 2 weeks DD should be 500 cals? And then I'll switch to 400/2000. I've got about 25 lbs to lose.

What is you age height weight? Did you get the 400/2000 from the JUDDD calculator? If you give us your stats we can double check.

Thank you Carly! I do think I'll try and get down to the1800/400 next and see if it goes a little faster and then drop down to the 1760/350. Thank you for the encouragement and push to do my best!

Welcome Suzy! I have the Designer Whey vanilla & chocolate protein powder that I purchased from Trader Joe's, but I know it's sold at many other stores. Anyway it is 100 calories if it's mixed with water or I mix it with the unsweetened vanilla almond milk for 30 calories more and put it in a magic bullet with ice to give it a little volume and thickness, yum! For on the go shakes I buy the premier protein shakes from Costco at 160 calories.

! I don't use shakes at all, so I can't help you there. Yes, the first 2 weeks is Induction and is 500 calorie DDs. If you've only got 25 lbs to lose, I wonder if 2000 will be too high on your UDs. Like Carly said, if you give us your stats, we can confirm for you. Many many of us have gotten incorrect numbers from the calculator for one reason or another.

She is absolutely correct, those up day calories are so important, my last up day I ate candy bars, lemon shake up, tacos, almonds, cheese and was down 1.4 the next day, and it seems the more junk I eat on a up day the better I will lose, I have a high up day number to hit because of my high weight so right now pretty much anything goes, give juddd a good long chance, I am absolutely in love with it. Been on plan for about 4.5 weeks and down 15 pounds.

Suzy, and glad you found us Beebop..

I love seeing this thread active again. The whole idea of it is that the Newbies get to know each other and the answers to their questions they can be seen by everyone.

Sorry, I can't advise on the shakes either as I started with real food too.

Can I second the improtance of knowing the correct numbers for you age, height and weight.

Since the 5:2 diet became popular, (I love it and do it for Maintaining now), the 2000/500 numbers seem to be seen as right for everyone. You will see here that some people have to watch their numbers very carefully. Others find they have to eat a littel more on a DD to get optimum losses. How lucky are the?

Up day numbers are best not meddled with, especially at first. There are some, who do virual fast days on their DDs, and they allow themselves higher UDs. But I don't recommend that for .

I really hope you all enjoy the kind of success Reptogirl is having. But we have a few great JUDDD mottos that are worth repeating.

"This is not a race."
"Hunger is not an emergency."
"Weight loss is not linear."
"Keep on keeping on."
"We are only dieting half the time."

And lastly, our best losers post on this site a lot!

Sorry to write a sermon!

Hello!! Yes my numbers are very important on my UD where I can have 1500 calories and my DD are 500/600. When I tried 2000 on an UD I stopped losing weight no matter how hard I worked on my DD. Also I'm not one of the lucky ppl who can eat anything for my 1500 calories, I allow a treat after dinner and thats it. Everyone is different, play around and see what works for you! I'm on a DD today and skipping breakfast but having a coffee soon. I slept in as well and that makes DD way easier for me I have plenty of reorganizing and cleaning to do so that's my exercise for the day done then as well. Have a good one everyone

Thank you for all the nice welcomes! Yeah, 2000 *might* be too high for me for an UD. But I definitely don't want to get in the same trouble as I was in February where i kept lowering my calories to lose and my body just adjusted (would have made an awesome cave person!). I'm 5'6" and 167. And I am somewhat active. When the sun is out, I easily walk 4-5 miles a day. And not sure if this matters, but my fitbit (pedometer) daily calorie burn is usually in the 2000-2300 range. If anyone wants to check my numbers to make sure I'm doing this right, I'd appreciate it. So far today, one coffee with 4 T. half&half = 80 calories

I am 5'6 and my numbers at 184 pounds were 1765 and 350. I am 60+ years old also. If you are a lot younger, your numbers will be higher than mine. Did you put in exercise when you calculated your numbers? FYI, most do not even if they exercise moderately.

I'm 41. Ok, I just checked the JUDDD calculator again and for "light exercise", my numbers are 2061 and 412. I'm just going to round it to 2000 and 400. I'm thinking start with that and see how it goes and if I'm not losing, reduce exercise to "no exercise" and go with those numbers?

Also wanted to ask, do most people go with 500 cals for DD's the first 2 weeks, or should I go with 400? Is 500 just so people can get used to it, or is there a physiological reason that has to do with that gene?

If you're comfortable going lower than 500 to start, that's perfectly fine. The 500 is just to get people used to the low calorie DDs.

On DD #4......and so far it has been the easiest DD yet. I waited even longer than usual to eat and think I will be able to keep it well under 400 today (around 350)......
NEVER would I have thought I could get by with so little to eat without feeling starved or light-headed. Beyound thrilled so far--

If the weather holds up, I am planning a nice walk this evening.
