June Daily Chat Thread

Another month! Here is the place for daily chat!

krow134 06-01-2013 07:09 AM

Ok had to make the thread so I can tell you about this awesome turkey I made!!

My neighbor shot a turkey and gave us the breast meat a while ago. They were huge! Anyways we normally wrap them in bacon and grill them. But I decided to try something else.

I took the turkey breast and quartered it and put it in a crock pot.

I covered it with ketchup (I estimate about 1 1/2 cups), about 1/2 cup of brown sugar, a splash of vinager, garlic cloves smashed and chopped, and chuncks of onion and slow cooked it all day. Dont know how many calories it had, but the turkey was so tender and fell apart kinda like pulled pork. Hubby put it on a bun and ate it that way. I put mine on a bed of rice.

I will have to make that again. Thats normally how I make pulled pork but I never thought about the turkey! Wasnt sure how it would turn out, because wild turkey can get kind of tough if you dont cook it right. Either way YUMM!!!

Librarygirl 06-01-2013 07:13 AM

That sounds delicious!!! I don't have an opportunity to get wild turkey, but I might try that with a Boston Butt in the crock pot.

We dont get wild turkey but twice a year, seasons you know, lol! But I think next time I might try boneless chicken!! I really liked it way better than pulled pork to be honest!

Thanks for starting us out Tanya. Your turkey breast sounds soooooo good! I love doing stuff in the crock pot, especially stuff you don't have to sear in a skillet first, like this.

Hi all! Can't believe it's June already. Really hot today so I only got a 5 minute walk outside with my dog this morning before work. I was lucky enough to get home early (just a part time saturday job) so I'm relaxing a bit and put the A/C on to cool off then will go grocery shopping.

I had the best news yesterday! I was hoping to go shopping this weekend for some new clothes (at least 3 pairs of pants/jeans are falling off me whoo whoo) but was upset that I only have a few bucks to spend on myself since I'm saving up for car repairs. Well, I found out yesterday at work that I was chosen as staff of the month and I get $100!! It could not have come at a better time. How's that for luck!!!!!

Don't you love it when those things happen? You deserve some new pants! Now have fun shopping. :hiya:

LoCarbGal 06-01-2013 02:16 PM

Congratulations Kismet! On the recognition (we all knew you were wonderful!) and the extra dough! Shopping!!!

Kismet311 06-01-2013 02:28 PM

Thanks everyone! This is the 2nd time I won (maybe there weren't many nominees LOL) and I have only worked there a year and a half. I do work hard and it's nice to have people notice. Now, I just have to look good at work by not wearing baggy clothing. The other day somone said, "you're so small" when I scooted behind someone between their chair and the wall. I didn't even think about it but I guess if I hadn't lost 20+ lbs I would have not fit  Wish me luck in finding some decent pants at the store tomorrow. I am a terrible shopper :p

krow134 06-01-2013 05:24 PM

So awesome Kismet!! Congrats!!!

OMG I am so stuffed!! I had a great afternoon with hubby and the kids. We went to see the movie the hangover 3 and then to red lobster for dinner...........I had a small bag of popcorn that my daughter and I shared, and an icee because I havent had one of those in forever. Then at red lobster, I got that 4 course dinner for $15.99. I had clam chowder, a garden salad, shrimp and scallop lingune, and key lime pie...........I brought most of the noodles home!!! Sooooooooo bloated but sooooooooo tummy happy right now!! Thank goodness tomorrow is a DD!!!

The hangover 3 was just tooooooooo funny!! My hubby and I always liked those movies. Now getting ready for a hockey night in Pittsburgh!! Go Pens Go!!! lol!!! Well hubby is gonna watch it, I am gonna play sims 3!! Not much into hockey and football, but dont tell anyone cause its a mortal sin in Pittsburgh!!!! lol!!!

Kismet311 06-01-2013 05:52 PM

I guess I missed Hangover 2 LOL If it's on DVD maybe I'll watch it then see Hangover 3. I have not been to the movies in ages but we have a nice Drive-in so maybe it will be playing there soon!

A drive in! I would love that. My car has super comfy seats.... What about the ladies room?

There are restrooms behind the consession stand so watching movies in your car for 4 hours isn't too bad LOL Most of the time they show 2 movies. Take a drive upstate and catch a double feature!

krow134 06-01-2013 07:53 PM

I used to work part time in the summers at a local drive-in doing concessions work. I loved it! Slow nights got to watch movies! We had holiday specials were you could watch 3 movies for the price of one. It made for really long nights but people tipped nice on those nights!

You just cant beat the price! We usually take our own food and just buy drinks there. Concessions makes you take out a small loan, but thats how the owners make money. The admission fee covers the privilage of showing the movie that goes back to the film makers.

Back from the wedding in NJ. It was a lovely affair. Very short outdoor ceremony...which we were all glad about, it was in the 90's! A dove release and then we were back inside for fabulous food! The appetizers were amazing and then a wonderful dinner. Good band, open bar and yummy food...what's not to like? It was good to see some family that we don't get to see very often.

Back to reality now. Have the washer spinning and I'm debating making a trip to the grocery store. Off work tomorrow again for a golf tournament. I'll pay for these couple days off when I get back to the office. I may need a shovel to get thru the mounds of paper!

Hope you've all had a wonderful weekend!

Mssarge 06-02-2013 12:58 PM

Just marking my spot...and waving to all. type ya later.

Librarygirl 06-02-2013 01:22 PM

Congrats, Kismet on the recognition and the $$!!!! I hope you found some cute clothes. :)

Hello to everyone...

Kismet311 06-02-2013 01:35 PM

Ugggg, Kohl's stinks! I tried on 6 pairs of jeans and none of them fit right. I tried on 6s and 4s. I guess I am between sizes LOL because the 6s were too baggy and the 4s were ok but I couldn't find any mid rise (they all had really high waists which = muffin top)! Oh well, I did find a cute short sleeved sweater to go over a tank top and a new bra. I will try again at a different store next weekend. I did not have too much time today.

Flossyliz 06-02-2013 03:52 PM

Congratulations Kismet. Those perfect pants are out there waiting for you!

Well June has started out definitely NOT how I meant to go on! :annoyed:
I had very hungry DD on Friday and stuck it out till 4pm when we had the bright idea of taking DS and family out to dinner - they've been moving all week and because we were away we couldn't help them. So my DD turned into an 1160 calorie day - neither here nor there, though at least I'd fasted till 4.30pm.

We volunteered to take the children out yesterday, so DS and DiL could get on with new house stuff. I decided I'd try again for a DD. Went to pick up the girls and the ice cream van just happened to be passing, so DS appeared with ice creams for us all! No problem, thinks I. Do a UD today and have a good DD tomorrow. :)

Took the girls back and DiL invites us for Sunday dinner in their new home today. All the best laid plans ....

We have a family birthday every week this month, so I knew strict EODs would be unlikely and I'd have to fit in good DDs whenever possible. Wish me luck for a true DD tomorrow because I'm eating out on Tuesday and Wednesday.

How awesome that you have DS and family so close to be able to celebrate these wonderful events with them. You are a lucky girl! :jumpjoy:

Sometimes life gets in the way, we just do the best we can, as you yourself are doing now.

I am proud of you for enjoying your life and your family. JUDDD is so flexible. It's all good!

HUG HUG HUG

Kimmie

Carly 06-02-2013 04:53 PM

I agree with Kimmie!

Kissa 06-02-2013 05:18 PM

Well done Kismet, I am glad you are appreciated, and you'll find the perfect pants soon.

Flossy, life does get in they way. Seems that way with me just now, but well do fine. Those DDs are waiting for us.

My home is almost normal, cellar pretty sorted and things look good. There'll be more works to be done over the summer but it feels nice to be back I control.

I had a sort of hungry DD Friday... Then ended up not eating until super late... AFTER I sat at A&W with DH and DD while they ate coney dogs! I didn't cave... Really just sat there freezing (air conditioning) and trying not to be impatient. Saturday ended up being a lot over plan with only 2 meals! Breakfast was wonderful - border scramble omlet at Bob Evans, and we got so busy during the day that I didn't start cooking burgers on the grill until 10pm! Add that to a double serving of macaroni & cheese and some green beans, and 2 beers... Well... I was wiped out and HUNGRY by that late!

We got a lot of work done on the house though! We leave for vacation next Friday, but then 2 days after we return, my aunt and cousin move in with us. So we had a lot of cleaning, rearranging, and emptying of rooms to do. Still quite a bit to finish up, but we managed to get a huge portion of it out of the way. Now, this week, we have to focus on laundry and packing and preparations for vacation.

Oh... And DD and I bought new swimsuits too. DH doesn't like mine so much because it's not a bikini, but I dont think I'd be caught dead in one of those outside of my house... This one is a toe-piece, with a flared tank top and boy shorts for bottoms. Pretty comfortable, actually.

Well that's kinda sweet that DH wanted you to wear a bikini... He obviously thinks your a hot mama! I too would not be caught dead in a bikini... Not even in my own house. DW would not allow either. (I'm not sure it would be banned because she wouldn't want anyone looking or because she agrees it would be dreadful :hyst:)

Flossyliz 06-03-2013 04:18 AM

 Thanks Kimmie, Carly and Cindy. I tell myself regularly how lucky I am - and not just because I found JUDDD when I needed it most.

Life certainly does get in the way sometimes (quite often actually) but, apart from helpfully revealing any control freak tendencies, it's much better than being bored! :)

The scales have headed off in the wrong direction this morning but I know there's no such thing as a JUDDD emergency.

Scarlett, awesome self-control on Friday's DD. :notwrthy:
I'm sure you look great in your comfy new swimsuit!
I hope all this week's preparations go smoothly and easily and you have a wonderful holiday. :high5:

Went to a wedding this past weekend and I overindulged for two days straight! I'm up to 160.8 this morning, but I'm sure that will go away in a few days. Here are a few pictures. I bought a shrug to go over the dress, but it was over 100* so I never ended up wearing it. It's nice to feel comfortable enough in my own skin to go sleeveless! I'm still toying with going back to WLM for another 10 pounds, but haven't decided just yet. I'm doing my best to give maintenance a good LONG time to "set" before I start messing around with things again. ;)

krow134 06-03-2013 06:45 AM

You look beautiful!!!!! Love the colors in the dress! I was looking at a flowy top like that to wear with black capri leggings for a few grad parties this year!

Kissa 06-03-2013 10:09 AM

Dawn you look so good and hour arms are great. Your DH is looking so good too. What a beautiful family.

LoCarbGal 06-03-2013 10:19 AM

Thanks for posting those pics Dawn. You look lovely, and so does DH and Keira. I love that dress!
