I'm going to join this thread again. The daily bounces kill me and maybe, hopefully, I'll see a downward trend if I just weigh on Saturdays. I confess my confidence is slipping as I'm been at this a month and progress seems nonexistent (again). Grrrr.

12/22 185.6 (- 2.0 lbs) Weighed one day early as today is an UD. Next Saturday morning before leaving for our trip will be last weigh-in for the year. Trying to be happy with this loss. Going to face down treats at my daughter's bday party today (even though this is an up day I just can't do sugar and grains) and so I don't want to give into "what the heck, if you're only going to lose two lbs after starving for half the week you might as well eat the pizza and cake."

If I read that correctly, you've shed 15lbs in 20 days and you're not wholly pleased about that?

I think 15lbs is impressive. You do need time for your body to adjust to the new variation in intake: it's up-regulating and down-regulating genes and enzymes, dealing differently with its protein turnover etc. If I'm not mistaken, you're also reducing your sugar intake and altering what you eat as well as when/how much you eat?

Have a thoroughly enjoyable holiday season and feel very pleased that you're 15lbs lighter going into it than you were at the start of the month.

As usual, my monthly numbers bolded, and the last weekly ones in regular text. If I can hold steady through the end of the year, I will be exiting 2013 at the lowest weight I have been in over 21 years!

Heck, even if I GAIN 3 pounds, I will be doing that!

Not that I am planning on gaining. I have another Down Day before our Christmas festivities, and three Down Days between Christmas and New Year's.

I am even looking forward to my Down Day on Monday, for a different reason than usual. We have some specific Christmas Eve food traditions, and I know they will be EXTRA enjoyable if I come to them a little hungry, and not already stuffed from treats the day before.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement. And to you, Sirtain, a special thanks for posting your story of committment and continuity, showing what is possible if you stick with it for the long haul. Congratulations.

I need to remember that the long haul is the real goal, and not my usual pattern of losing 10 lbs a week for 3 weeks, then gaining it all back plus extra.

That said, I did eat the pizza and cake after the birthday (there goes that reduction in sugar intake, Slow!). One piece each, weighed,--and oddly (VERY, EXTREEEEMELY oddly!) I don't want any more. This has never happened with me and carbs. They fit into my calories, too.

Tomorrow's down day terrifies me a little, though.

But this is a theme for another thread: walking on the wild(carb) side and testing fate with JUDDD.

Oh, how I wish!! But, I admit I let the holidays and carbs get the best of me.

I didn't weigh last Saturday, but will this one coming up. I got back with it today and hope any damages will be gone by then. Ditching the carbs again, drinking lots of water, and hoping to begin throwing some exercise into the mix.

I opted not to weigh again on Saturday, even though I've kept my rotations. Mainly. Like Soren, I started not to weigh today, but wanted to give myself a starting point. Wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it might be. Still around where I started (again) in November, but with the holidays, I'm good with it.

The 2 of you are to be commended for your facing down of the scales. Sometimes, it's so difficult to establish a starting point for fear of being disheartened - but then there are no way points to track improvements.

I regret that I didn't measure at the outset to give myself another way to monitor progress at times when the scales weren't shifting (and I allowed that to unnerve me).

May good fortune reward your resoluteness

I am finally getting the last of the holiday treats out of the house. Mainly via our stomachs, but it is what it is. Ate only good things today, to help set myself up for an easier Down Day tomorrow. And I have a doctor appointment on Wednesday, which I will need to be fasting for, so no food on my next Up Day until afternoon. I expect good things!

Feeling proud of myself that I kept weighing all through December.
