47 Weeks on JUDDD -- Delighted

This week I weighed in at 248 lbs for a gain of 1 lb this week, a total of 42 lbs lost, 35 of them on JUDDD.

So last week I lost three pounds and was grim about it. This week, I gained a pound and am delighted. Why? Because I was off plan for five days for a Memorial Day event and fully expected to be in complete melt down mode when I got on the scale upon return.

Low Points

Low Expectations. Maintenance may be a low bar, I realize. Especially for me, considering I have a lot more weight to go. But maintaining over holiday weekends has never been a possibility until this year. I am not actually back-sliding. I'm holding onto the territory I fought for. I keep saying that has to change and it does, but maybe this week it's ok.

High Points

Compensatory Skills. So, knowing this week was going to be a food fest, I employed two strategies. First, I did two down days in a row to give me a little wiggle room. That worked nicely, though I don't recommend it for the inexperienced. The second idea was to fast until planned celebratory dinner. That worked for the first two days of feasting after which my control slipped. But the point is, the effort paid off. I enjoyed the things I enjoyed and I held onto my hard-won weight loss. That gives me a lot of confidence about such events...and it becomes easier to handle them each time.

Have a Cold. Why would I list that as a high point? Because it was easy for me to adapt with soup and honey and lemon into a down day. I love how JUDDD adapts to whatever life throws me. I'm feeling warm and fuzzy now.

Yay! Sounds like you know yourself and what works for you!

Nicely done, Steph! Congratulations! Isn't it amazing what JUDDD enables us to learn about ourselves as we navigate this journey? I am more in touch with my body now than I think I have ever been before.

I think the fast until dinner thing is called fast 5? Anyway, i did that at my conference the other week, very helpful.
Looove honey. Remember a spoon at night, straight, right before bed. Solves coughing so you can sleep.

Hugs.

:high5: It is SO ok. It is more than OK, it is key. Not giving back ground seems so very critical to me. I define not giving back ground not losing "real" terrirory ... not when we go up a few pounds on vacation or because of a rough patch or some celebration, and we're right back in there and they come off and we keep going. It's never going to be a straight downward line, especially on JUDDD, but to keep that graph line from going up in any significant way is huge ... particularly in either celebratory or challenging situations. You had fun, you had a strategy, and no damage done. brilliant!
Also? I think it primes the pump for better weight loss when it's time for that.
p.s. hope you feel better soon.

Wow Steph! I'd say you've had a brilliant week, with some fantastic NSVs.
Thanks for the inspiration. :high5:

Great update Steph, and you're doing just fine. Your results this week are stellar, considering what you were doing and the eating situation. I'm sorry you're fighting a cold though. Summer colds (or I guess Spring, technically) are the worst! Feel better!

Babsbabs 05-31-2013 01:43 PM

Not losing ground is wonderful! I believe you are a JUDDD master/ empress! I am positive that when you decide to you will achieve any weight goal you wish. I hope your cold is getting better and I am glad you enjoyed your week.:)

I've forgotten how inspirational and helpful you all are, and how great it is to come here and read what you've all written.

Chris, I'm finding your comments to resonate particularly. I feel like I'm coming out of a fog, just this week (I thought I was unfogged a while ago, apparently I was wrong...).

I'm re-losing the same 7 lbs I've dealt with since November of last year... BUT... I've not gone higher, so I take that as a small win, and I'm just looking onward and downward :)

:hugs: to everyone b/c you guys ROCK!!!

Soren, we might be seasonal weight losers. This is my current theory because now that it's warmer, for some reason, it seems easier for me to moderate my up days. Theoretically. Next week I could have a new theory.

Thank YOU! The support of people here has been invaluable.

And I can't say as I've ever been on any particular diet this long that I still felt positively about.

It's kind of like your motto. If you wait for perfect conditions...

Kimmie

Me too. I don't always like what my body is saying, however...

It's an imperfect solution, but JUDDD is all about imperfection. It helped!

Yep, me too.

It seems to be true that I see weight loss when my body is dealing with shock and surprise ;)

Thanks right back. Were it not for these updates and those of you who cheerlead me, I think I'd have slid back!

Aren't they wonderful?

As long as you're fighting, you're still in the game.
