I want to, but can not take credit for a lot of these Chris-- there's a boutique ice cream place in Ohio and expanding (and online) called jenis.com and they sell online too (regular ice cream, I don't think they do SF yet)... my friend got me the book, so I'm trying to de-cal, de-sugar the recipes. It's cherry season and I happen to have goat cheese I need to use up, so I was going to give that one a try

The chocolate is EXCELLENT... need to get that on there.

I'm totally impressed. I don't know where you find the time and energy!?! When I get home from work I can't even contemplate being creative in the kitchen. Props to you Miss Soren!

Missing you for sure Soren! But I understand you've got just a little bit going on IRL! Plus, your worker guys aren't too hard on the eyes, so I'm sure that's keeping your attention otherwise occupied (married, but not blind!) The kitchen is looking wonderful! I love the cabinets. I know you'll be glad when this is all done!

LOL Carol!

I keep saying things like, oh, you're a big guy, like my husband... but I do check my hair and teeth before I go downstairs for my about-hourly check-ins

Wait till you see what they got done today! I'm late for my nails appt, but it's worth it!

It's all lovely Soren. I'm so glad you're happy with it and the process is over with. Now you can relax and enjoy it. And hopefully Haka will get used to those slippery floors!

LOL Monica! One of my FB friends has a tiny dog too, I think he could live under the bowls, with his own food and everything

I'm baking my first cake in the new space today-- sounds like not a big deal, but with the different arrangement of plugs, and the big drawers where my tools are housed, I'm curious if it will be easier or harder to get things done.

I can say that having all the ingredients out on the counter, now that the peninsula counter is much bigger, is a pleasure already!

I'm loving not being cramped for space

Guess I'll get back to regular food/recipe blogging

I'm going to make my family's Honey Cake (for the Jewish New Year) a bit lower fat...

Your 2 bedroom apartment probably has the same (or more) square footage than my tiny house. At least I have a yard, so I can still have my dogs though, and my house is paid off, so I can't complain.

I would kill for a yard so I could sit out in the sun or BBQ! As 2 bedroom apartments go this one is fairly big. Much bigger than anything you could get in Manhatten and definitely priced better.

Looks delish!! I don't have a mandoline or food processer. I wonder if it would work to just cut it up with a knife, as closely as possible to matchsticks?

I'm not a big greens eater but that looks like something I should try (it has bacon so should be awesome). Thanks.

Frosty, you really should. I got my Venezuelan friend addicted to them by serving them at Thanksgiving, and she'd not had them before.

They just taste yummy, not cabbagy or anything weird that might put you off. and they are LOADED with nutrients. I think they might be a super food.

If you turn into a stealthy ninja or something, don't be surprised!

I think greens are a superfood; it's just hard to get myself to eat them other than in salads. Too many memories of gross green slop when I was a kid (over-cooked spinach). Yuck.

That's so funny for me, b/c I prefer cooked to raw. My mother blames herself, says she didn't focus on salads b/c "everyone eats salad!" and focused on the cooked veggies instead!

I like spinach cooked in stuff (like lasagne). My parents would get the packs of chopped frozen spinach, cook it to death and then plop the mess on your plate. You were supposed to sprinkle vinegar on it. I still think that's gross but need to start getting in the mindset of trying other greens prepared correctly.

My mom used to make a spinach casserole that was amazing! I know it had chopped frozen spinach, lipton onion soup mix, and sour cream. I think that's all that was in it, but I never saved her recipe so I don't know the amounts of each or how long to bake it.

Soren, do you have a similar recipe, or would you like to try your hand at replicating it?

Sure, I take requests (see salted caramel ice cream )

Dawn- was it cheesy or gooey? Sour cream would be tangy, was it tangy? Breadcrumbs on top ? Any other tips are appreciated and I'll give it a go in the next few weeks.

Eta: just did a quick search and have some good candidates already! Let me know about the above, I'm seeing both as options.

It was almost like creamed spinach, but not sooo creamy if that makes sense. I feel like it was maybe 1 16 oz. container of sour cream, 1 or 2 envelopes of soup mix, and something like 8-10 (small) boxes of spinach.

It's not really tangy, but there's a definite creaminess and onion flavor. The spinach is the star of the dish though.
