Off Topic, but know my budds can help!

You guys are all so knowledgable and I'm just sure some one can help... my eyelids are totally swollen and puffy. They feel hot and irritated. I took off my make-up, but didn't know if anyone had any tips to bring the puffiness and irritation down. I think it's an allergy thing to either my eyeliner or possibly from my sushi I had at lunch around 2pm.

I'll take any tips you have!

KeirasMom 05-17-2013 04:50 PM

Benadryl! And watch for any shortness of breath or chest constriction, hives, etc. If they occur, get thee to a doctor. :hugs:

ETA: Cold compress might help too.

TryingJudd 05-17-2013 04:51 PM

Ouch. I had that for a few weeks. Very painful. I traced it to a new lotion. Stopped the lotion- no more pain. It was limited to the lash line only. I think it was because I use lotion and a tissue to remove eye makeup. That area must be sensitive.

Carly 05-17-2013 04:56 PM

I think it's probably the eye pencil as that one is sorta new and I think it's made my eyes itchy previously so I think it ought to be thrown away since I like it and will be tempted to use it if I keep it.

Carly 05-17-2013 04:57 PM

Oh and I take benedryll at bedtime so that's in about about an hour or so.

Yennie 05-17-2013 05:39 PM

Second the Benedryl, for sure, and cool compresses. Like a wet washcloth put in the freezer for 10 minutes then applied across your eyes.
Yikes! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Carly 05-17-2013 06:11 PM

Itching and burning, but worrying now about my 15 yr old furrbaby who all of a sudden got really skinny and doesn't look too good, so not paying attention to my eyes. I'm getting ready to take the Benedryl soon.

Yennie 05-17-2013 07:04 PM

Get she to a vet! Kidney, hyperthyroid & Diabetes: all can be managed long term if caught quickly. Are there any open on the weekend? We do Saturday appts but you'd have to leave now...for the airport! LOL!! Hugs to your kitten.

Flutter 05-17-2013 07:11 PM

Feel better Carly! The Benadryl should help! Hope your lil sweetie feels better, too!

If you're used to taking it, a second dose would be fine. You want the benefits sooner rather than later.

LoCarbGal 05-17-2013 10:05 PM

Good advice already Carly! I would definitely do the cold compresses. I'm sorry your kitty isn't feeling too good. I hope you'll both feel better very soon. :hugs:

LiLi914 05-18-2013 03:27 AM

Hope the Benadryl helped. If you wake up and still have mild swelling you should alternate between cold & hot compress to the eyes every 15 minutes. Hope you feel better!

tofucheez 05-18-2013 04:37 AM

Hope your eyelids are better, Carly. And that you can find a vet open today.

Please keep up posted so we don't all freak out wondering if you and your kitten are ok.

krow134 05-18-2013 06:09 AM

I am sorry about your kitty. I hope she is ok.

I read in a magazine last night about putting 2 teaspoons in the freezer then putting them on your eyes for instant swelling relief. I told hubby I have to remember that because now that the trees are blooming my eyes are red and swelling. Then I come on here and read your post.....so do that lol!

Carly 05-18-2013 07:58 AM

My eyelids are much better and I'm sure the Benedryl helped. I'm waiting to hear from the vet right now. Willow has kidney disease and has for a few years so I suspect this is sadly the natural progression. She's sitting happily on the coffee table, but she is so skinny.

I also threw out the eyeliner.

Carly 05-18-2013 08:50 AM

Willow is going to the vet on Tuesday after work. The vet thinks it's her thyroid which has been getting more over active each year. She will also check her kidneys and for diabetes. They must see $$$ when we come with any of our 5 cats.

LoCarbGal 05-18-2013 08:59 AM

I'm glad you'll get the answers you need Carly. They're so worth the expense, just like any other family member! I'm glad you're eyes are better too!

Shari4 05-19-2013 12:18 AM

Carly, I'm so glad that your eyes are feeling better. Your furbaby, Willow, is 15!! That is so awesome! Shows what good care & love she's had over her life time. I'm sending good thoughts your way!

Thanks! We have been giving her extra food all weekend and will see what the vet says on Tuesday.

Carly 05-24-2013 12:32 PM

We just brought Willow to the vet. She lost 2.5 pounds in 2 months! They did a bunch of labs and gave her subcutaneous fluids. The vet is checking her kidneys, thyroid, for diabetes and CBC. She went from 12.5 to 10 pounds! I would have loved losses like that during WLM, but she didn't need to lose weight. We should hear back next week, but for now she can eat as much as she wants whenever.

LoCarbGal 05-24-2013 12:46 PM

I'm so sorry to hear she's losing so fast. I hope the vet can find out what's going on quickly and get her stabilized.

Pami 05-24-2013 03:23 PM

:laugh::laugh::laugh:
Happily she has a big appetite other wise I'd be flipping out...
I feel hopeful because she is still eagarly eating :aprayer:

We have 5 kitties, so we  kitties, too!!!!

Pami 05-24-2013 03:29 PM

We have three, two of which are mine. The big one is *$ (pronounced "Starbuck")
and the little one is Kona. Our last name is Coffey, so it works.

DBF has one named "Fil" which means elephant, in Turkish. It's a long story.

Carly 05-24-2013 04:01 PM

Those names are cute! We have Willow, Ben & Jerry (littermates), Simba and Scooterpie.

Librarygirl 05-24-2013 04:57 PM

Carly, I'm glad to hear that your eyelids have gotten better. :) I've had a few weird allergic reactions on my face/eyes over the years, and benedryl does seem to take care of it for the most part.

I'm glad Willow is eating and I hope she will be okay for a long time.:console: Our three cats (and two dogs) are very dear to us, so I know how you must feel.

Carly 05-24-2013 06:43 PM

She's lounging on the bed with Simba and I. DW is gonna have to fight for a spot :hyst:

I'm going to give her more wet food before I go to sleep since she ate all of hers and what was left of Simba's. The vet said she still has most of her teeth which is good considering she's like 105 in people years.

May want to keep a check on that swelling. I had an anaphylactic reaction last night and luckily got better after 3 oz of benadryl. Went to the Dr. this morning and she said that was a no no and for me to head to the ER. Of course my throat, toung, eyes, nose, ears, hands, and feet began to itch severly, and I was covered in hives! This happend to me one time 3 yrs ago and I think it was insect related. There are sooo many things that can cause a reaction so I would definitely watch it. My Dr. perscribed me 2 epi pens and prednezone (sp?) I still don't feel normal. I'm suppose to go trail riding all weekend and now I'm afraid something will bite me and I'll be out in the woods!

LoCarbGal 05-24-2013 10:49 PM

Oh man, Beverly, that sounds awful! And especially since you don't know for sure what caused it. Insect makes sense though. Those reactions are nothing to play around with, for sure. I hope you'll be feeling better soon! And take it easy on activities this weekend. All that reaction and inflammation is plenty for your body to deal with.

Oh my! Take good care of yourself! I think mine was from the eyeliner. I through that one away and got a different one. No more problems, thankfully. Take good care of yourself!
