Oh, no! I am glad if it's manageable, and like you said, not more serious. I know you're glad that you know what is wrong, AND how to treat it.

That's good to have an answer. Since you already have 2 Diabetic kitties then you know what you're in for.

Not to "internet diagnose" but have you guys discussed a diet change for the meows as well? There are a few different prescription diets designed specifically for diabetic cats. I've got a few cats who, for various reasons, the owners are unwilling/unable to do insulin. We put them on this diet, in the canned form, and dramatically reduced their blood glucose. I have one client who takes in special needs cats (she has medical training) and she can get most, if not all, her diabetic cats off insulin with these diets & some very intensive monitoring/management. Not saying you should go that dramatic route but a diet change might improve their response & allow you to reduce their insulin dose.

Forgive me if you've already done this.

Ben and Jerry are brothers. They were DW's cats. When I met her they both weighed 23lb!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ben still does, but Jerry is down to 18lb. They are huge cats so now Jerry is a good weight. They eat Pro Plan Weight Management and refuse any and all wet food. The vet said just give them the wet (some strange combo of all natual meat and veggies) and she said eventually they will eat it- nope they didn't eat for 6 days!

Willow eats Science Diet K/D and Pro Plan Senior even though she would really rather her Fancy Feast and goes behind Simba and Scooterpie and eats theirs when they walk away.

The vet will see all the diabetic cats in 2 weeks and try to re-evaluate the food situation then.

Ug, see...this is why we don't internet diagnose! I forgot you had said Willow has kidney disease.
They don't always play along with our plans, do they, funny critters.
I'm glad you're going to talk food. It can be an important component for health, just like with us!!
Love to the kitties!!

In half and hour Willow will get her first 2 units of insulin. I've been "preparing" her for the last 10 minutes, by telling her that it won't hurt and she will feel much better... it's gonna hurt me more than it's gonna hurt her. Ben and Jerry are so squishy that I don't feel bad injecting them, but Willow is very bony at the moment. I know when I used to have to inject myself that the more squish (read: fat) in the area the less I felt it.

I'll report back at 8:30pm or so...

Good kitty! Glad its smooth sailing for her. Willow is the best name! Mine is 11.5 years, and a dog, but still. Awesome name.

We had a Black Lab that was diabetic ..I feel for you it is a lot of work to keep up with everything to do with the shots, diet, being there and if you aren't then someone to give their shot. You have my admiration..what would we do without our babies...huh? A lot like our UD and DD huh?
