I won't be fasting for a while . . .

I've been feeling a little burned out on fasting, so I've been looking at other options for maintenance. I've decided to try "In Place of a Roadmap" which is basically figuring out your BMR and TDEE and staying somewhere between the two. I figured mine to be 1721 calories per day, so I'm going to try that for a couple of weeks and see how it works.

I fear with my thyroid disease, I might not have been getting the full range of health benefits from fasting. I lost weight well, but rarely had the increased energy and other increased health markers that others have mentioned. Pterostilbene and Resveratrol don't seem to do anything for me either. Of course, once I stop fasting, I may find decreased health, and I'll jump right back into it if that's the case.

I'm also curious to see if eating well every day will help with my Raynaud's and freezing all the time. I thought going to 5:2 instead of EOD rotations might help, but I'm still having some discomfort, even though we've had days over 100* already this spring. Thankfully, I haven't had any chilblains recently. My aphasia has not improved at all, and seems to be a bit worse on fasting days, though it's hard to say since it's sporadic.

I intend to stick around, if that's alright with you all, as I love this board, and may be back on rotations soon, depending what happens with the roadmap. The lessons I've learned here over the last year and a half have been invaluable. Hunger, indeed, is NOT an emergency.

I  my Buddds!

Dawn, your commonsense is self-evident. This sounds like an eminently sensible trial to see if you can improve your health and sense of wellbeing.

I've never heard of, "In Place of a Roadmap". I shall look it up and also look forward to your continued presence on this boards as your experience and generous support are invaluable.

Like everyone else, Dawn, I'd love for you to stay!

And FWIW, I don't get the DD energy boost and ptero didn't help me out at all, either.

JMBM 05-17-2013 01:06 PM

Best wishes Dawn. Hope you find what works best for you!:)

Seabreezes 05-17-2013 02:28 PM

Carly 05-17-2013 03:04 PM

Dawn I'm thrilled that you are going to explore a woe that may optimize your health and you had better stick around here and post because, I would miss you terribly if you didn't. Please keep us updated about how the new plan works for you :hugs: and !

Whitlin' 05-17-2013 04:20 PM

You've earned a new normal now. It's maintenance time now, and experimenting to see what works for you is a very cool endeavor.

You have a chance to tweak and fine tune your health, which is such a blessing. Some people never feel they get that chance because they have to keep up the weight fight all the time and are too weary for much more good thinking.

All of us have different health challenges and we learn from each other's experiences. You may figure out something that helps others. Enjoy, keep records/journal, contemplate brilliantly. Keep on keeping us straight.

Joyjoy 05-17-2013 04:20 PM

I'd love to hear how the next part of the adventure goes, Dawn. All the best with it. :):heart:

TryingJudd 05-17-2013 04:48 PM

Good luck Dawn. Can't wait to hear about this next chapter.

Librarygirl 05-17-2013 05:12 PM

You must stick around because you have so much wisdom and knowledge to impart! Your successful weight loss speaks for itself. :) I have benefited time and again from the wonderful advice you impart, and want to thank you for helping me through this journey.:hugs:Please keep us informed on how your new WOE is going, and I know I speak for everyone when I say, we all wish you only the best. Your health comes first, so whatever that takes, is what matters.

Yennie 05-17-2013 05:29 PM

Different roads up the mountain, my friend, and different camps at the top! You're a marvelous example & role model for anyone hoping to emulate your successes. You need to do what you feel is best for you, in this moment, with your health. But I am sure glad you're willing to still hang out with us! We're looking forward to hearing how this works for you so please do share.
PS - my first thought when I read the threat title was "OMG! She's preggers!" Lol, sorry about that.

phoenix17 05-18-2013 05:36 AM

What everyone else said :). I still feel a little bit like a newbie here (only been a few months) but already I think of all of you as friends! I come here for advice and encouragement and you are a big part of that so I too am looking forward to hearing of this next adventure!

Trigger828 05-18-2013 01:10 PM

best of luck in the new venture.

I also changed plans. JUD was very interesting but I can't do it. It isn't for me. while I thought it would work well a few times, in the long run it didn't. I see bad situations for me if I continue JUDD. but for maitenance I know it can be a strong tool.

I am hanging around the board also. Great people. Good food advice etc. I might be losing weight a different way now, but in the end we all have the same struggles. This group of people are very supportive!!

Shari4 05-19-2013 12:12 AM

Dawn, it sounds like you need to try this for optimal health benefits. No one can argue with that! But, you really are a core part of this JUDDD forum!! I am so happy that you will still be here, not only for the support you give; but, we would like to continue to support you, too!! I am curious as to what this "In Place of a Road Map" is, too! Google is gonna get a lot of searching for this, I bet!! Can't wait to hear how this new WOE helps you. So, keep us posted!:hugs:

sorenkkg 05-21-2013 02:18 PM

I  Dawn.

fast, don't fast (or as they say in Kung Fu Panda-- noodle, don't noodle) as long as you hang out, post comments, let us know how you (and your dogs... :D ) are doing, etc.

I didn't know you were suffering from aphasia... I assume you had this checked out, b/c I think it's very serious, no?

:hugs: don't go anywhere!
S.

KeirasMom 05-22-2013 08:48 AM

You people are wonderful! :hugs:

Soren, my aphasia started when my thyroid tanked. It's pretty common, and sometimes it reverses, sometimes it doesn't. I've been pretty well controlled on my medication for over 6 months now, and it hasn't resolved, so I think I'm one of the "lucky" ones who will have to just deal with it. It can be very frustrating, especially since I've always prided myself on my vocabulary. It's one of the few things I'm vain about. :o When I can't remember the word 'computer' or 'bathroom' or other simple words, I can get myself so worked up until I'm nearly in tears. Oh, who am I kidding, I HAVE cried. But if that's the worst of my problems, I'm still a very lucky woman.
