288 calories on DD? Anyone else that low?

I did the calculator and that is what it came up with. As you can see I am very short - already 40 and don't have much to lose (6 lbs). I guess that's how it goes?

Those of you with plenty of experience, do I need to hold myself that low or can I go up to 500 - will it really make a difference?

Flossyliz 05-13-2013 12:20 PM

Mine's only 294 at 20%. I'm 5'2" and 126lbs at 60yrs old.

Tall JUDDDers don't know how lucky they are!!

I suspect it will make a difference - I've lost best when I stuck to my numbers.
You need at least 1000 calories between UD and DD so if you push up your DD cals, you risk stopping the Sirt1 gene from kicking in. You could try 400/1500 for the first couple of weeks, dropping the DD cals as it gets easier.

There are lots of tips and hints on the forum for making DDs as easy as possible. Do your research and I wish you success. However, I'm concerned that you only weigh 103lbs now and, though you only want to lose 6lbs, unless you have a frame like an elf, it already sounds very low. Please take care to eat really healthily and nourish yourself as much as possible at these low calories.

desertgirl 05-13-2013 12:26 PM

Thank you for the input. I'll try to go a bit lower - I was using 500 as a goal last week.

I'm actually 106 now (that was an old weight, I'll edit it). I have a small frame - and at 112 (recently, before I did a juice fast last month) I was inching towards a size 4p. My body just can't handle a lot of weight. :dunno:

I like being a 0P, and all my summer clothes are a 0, so that is my goal.

Maybe for tall YOUNG JUDDers. But I am 5'7' and my DD number at 20% is 307 because I am OLD.

KeirasMom 05-13-2013 01:15 PM

Mine's 380 or so. I can't remember. I'm normally between 200-400 on a DD. Once you find what keeps you satisfied, it won't feel that low.

desertgirl 05-13-2013 01:19 PM

So, the lucky ones are the tall, young ones? Yeah, that sounds about right. ;)

Thanks all, I appreciate the help! :)

Let's hear less of the old! I'm less than four years behind you

You do have a very active lifestyle. No wonder you lost doing UUADs with very low DDs.
I seem to gain if I even think about doing two UDs in succession.

Yes, the tall young ones definitely have the advantage.

adillenal 05-13-2013 01:51 PM

I tried 5:2 and gained and 4:3 and gained but I do fine on EOD. As long I do super low DD's or potato DD's but I am not complaining. I am holding steady between 135 and 138 and enjoyed lemon pound cake today so what's not to love. And I am active. Although exercise doesn't really make for weight loss I can eat higher UD calories on days where I am VERY active like setting up and tearing down for a craft show. All that extra walking, lifting, toting etc helps keep me from gaining from the extra.
BUT I am a believer in as low DD's as you can do for weight loss.

Carly 05-13-2013 01:51 PM

Mine is about 310 and I'm 5'2" 124 and 36yrs. During my weight loss I stayed at about 150 and think that was critical to my relatively quick losses.

Well done Adillenal what a wonderful place to be, I so hope to be there one day. Can I ask what your normal UD calories are and what they are on your higher ones?

desertgirl 05-13-2013 02:07 PM

Carly - would you share what you would eat to make up those 150 calories?

Luv2Eat 05-13-2013 02:25 PM

LOL about 5' with a good deep breath!
Here are my numbers:
4'6" 51yo
DD 100-200 average
UD 1200 for weight loss
This has worked very well for me, much better than when I tried to starve myself thin. There really has been a magical metabolic advantage to the calorie cycling for my small frame. I started at 96lbs and lost down to 75lbs. I wear 00, can't go any smaller because girls clothes aren't cut properly. Some of the larger cut 00 designs are too big if I've had a 'successful' week! A 2lb bounce is very noticeable at this size.
Been maintaining with 4:3 DD MWF and enjoy 'eating normally' on the weekend. I find it's pretty easy to not eat for the first half of the DD and eat something light for dinner. I sometimes eat mini meals if I feel more hungry on DD's.
Good luck DG, the last 5 lbs is usually the most difficult, just keep plugging along and you'll find your groove!

desertgirl 05-13-2013 02:37 PM

Luv2Eat, I'd be over the moon if I could get back to a 00. I wore that size while I was IFing - never thought I could get that low again. You've given me hope! Thank you!

What in the world did you "eat" at only 100-200 calories?

Librarygirl 05-13-2013 03:30 PM

You can find all sorts of things that will fit within 200 calories on the DD recipes page. :)

5'8 and 20% is 394. 51 yrs old

I still haven't hit that number since I started. :hyst:
I try but I have to say right now in order to get settled into this way of eating I am keeping it at 500 per day.

When I get into this more as a habit not having to think about it too much, I will definitely be lowering my down day cals.

not just yet for this old gal

the talk of 00 size. WOW. I am fighting for size 10/12. I can't even fathom that size.

They are supposed to be 1550 but 1800 is more often and over 2000 more often than that. But the low DD's work for me if I do EOD. When I tried 4:3 and 5:3 I stuck to 500 DD and 1600 UD's. Even though that averages out to less than 1200 calories somehow I managed to gain but doing higher UD and lower DD EOD I don't gain or if I do I drop right back down. See how strange we can do this diet and be successful?:)

The 35% number for you is 505 calories, which is still weight loss according to Dr. Johnson. Most people go for the 20% because they want maximum speed, but you could always try 500 and see if it works, then cut back if you aren't losing well.

desertgirl 05-13-2013 08:23 PM

Carly! That link is awesome - thank you! I'd read the post with the DD recipes, but I couldn't figure out how they translated to an entire day of calories.

Strawberry 05-13-2013 10:34 PM

That's about what my recommended cals come to as well. 500 cals would be the maintenance level down day for me.

I do broth, jello, coffee with milk. You basically can't eat. :-( it sucks. honestly, I've screwed up on many days.

Thank you Adillenal. It is so good to hear someone maintaining so well and eating "normally" eod. I hope I can do the same when (if!) I reach my goal. Well done again. :)

Strawberry, lots of us eat on low DDs. Mine are 300 cals. I make big pans full of veggie soup - courgette, aubergine, leeks, tomatoes, celery ..... whatever's in the fridge that makes a good combo. It's only between 65 and 75 cals per big ladleful.
On DDs I have a couple of ladlesful with Greek yogurt for under 150 cals - or you could have just one ladleful with some gluc powder.
On UDs I add beans and have some lovely fresh crusty bread with butter, or I add potatoes or rice. I don't eat meat but it's an obvious option. It means I'm eating healthy real food and I only have to plan EOD too!

Check out the menu threads and the link Cindy posted. There's a great recipe for chicken and cabbage that's very popular. You can eat food and JUDDD successfully!

Thank you. After my lemon pound cake indulgence yesterday I am 136.4 this morning. Right where I want to be and enjoyed my food immensely.
And just stick with it and you will be at goal eventually. I took a long time to get to goal but then I enjoyed the journey.:)
