The news is in... and it's not good!

Hi, all -- so, back from vacation, that's the good news. The bad news is that I've got an additional (oooooooh, I can barely say it) -- 7.3 lbs to show for it. Ugggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhh!

How... how? (whine) How is that even possible? In, what, four days, I've done so much damage that I now weigh more than when I STARTED (well, restarted) JUDDD, over a month ago. I know, I know, it's got to be a lot of water -- but still. I am so upset right now. :annoyed:

deedee 05-09-2013 07:17 AM

Deen, don't let this get you down! It's probably best to not weigh after a vacation until you've had at least one rotation. It'll be gone in a week!

Goner 05-09-2013 07:19 AM

:hugs: Sorry you are upset. You have a choice how you feel about the number you're seeing. Don't give it more power than it has.

Trigger828 05-09-2013 07:19 AM

honestly don't get upset.

it happens. sodium and more just go whacky on vacations if you didn't stick to your plan basically.

and good news is a bit on rotation will will drop right off.

I sure have had weigh ins like that. you think--HOW IN THE? but it happens to everyone :) and it will come off fast as long as you are true to the plan.

BUT--more important....how was that vacation?
did ya go anywhere?

Deen73 05-09-2013 07:27 AM

Awwww... thanks, guys -- I know it's true. I mean, five days isn't enough for that weight to be anything but water. I just needed y'all to come scrape me up off the floor, lol. I'm right back on a DD today, so I know it's going to come off. It just sucks to have worked so hard for the past month, and then see it all gone on the scale, poof, just like that!

Trigger -- the vacation was AWESOME. The best one I've had in a while -- touring the 'ancient city' -- seeing the country's oldest fort... so cool. My teenage daughter and I even did a "Ghosts and Gravestones" trolley tour, which was super fun. And, of course, the food... omg... amazing. :)

mttemple4 05-09-2013 07:30 AM

Every vacation I gain 7-10 lbs and every single time 5 of it disappears after one or two days. Hang in there!

Trigger828 05-09-2013 07:37 AM

well geez with tons of fun like that, the 7 was worth it :)

I so want to do a spooky tour eventually. I am waiting til my daughter is a bit older and can handle it and the late night tour. she just turned 8 so she will be old enough in a bit.

what city were you in? I am near Charleston and Savannah and they both have the gravesite ghost tours. I bet that was super fun!!

Flutter 05-09-2013 07:38 AM

Yep, I gained #6 at Disney and it came off in 2 rotations. Don't worry, just go back to your schedule! I'm glad you had fun!!!!!!!!

KeirasMom 05-09-2013 08:21 AM

I gained 8.6 pounds two weeks ago, in a single weekend blowout. Within 2 down days, I was down more than 6 of those pounds. I'm still up a pound from my lowest, but TOM's just around the corner, so I don't think it's the vacation weight sticking around. You'll be fine!

DH wants to do the ghost tours in Savannah. How fun that you were able to do it in Florida!

Flossyliz 05-09-2013 09:25 AM

Deen, glad you had a great time! :)

I put on 5lbs just in a weekend away :weigh: - and I ate sensibly!
It came off overnight in one DD.

 Don't panic!!

Deen73 05-09-2013 09:29 AM

Thanks, guys (gals -- lol) -- you are making me feel better already. I know it's coming off, because I am DETERMINED. One thing that's awesome, is every other time I've come back from vacation with a big gain, I've sort of thrown in the towel for a long time with an "ohhhh... well... I've gained this much, I'm hopeless, might as well just not even bother" and it's lasted a month (or more). Not this time! I am right back in the saddle with a new DD. So, yeah, that's positive, I think.

Trigger and Keirasmom -- yes, it was super-fun! I love them because you learn a lot of history as well as the folklore (which I also love!) This one was in St. Augustine, FL -- although they do them in Ybor, too (near Tampa) -- which is an small but old city famous for cigars, of all things!

St. Augustine has a ton of ghosts, of course, since it was founded even before Jamestown, VA. I loved it so much there -- the longer we were there, the less I wanted to leave. We had three different locals tell us the they had come there just intending to visit, and ended up staying because they just couldn't bear to go back to "regular" life -- and I can totally see it. It's like stepping back in time. :)

COOL pic.
now I want to go.

I am hitting Jacksonville FL for 10 days at the end of May

I know St. Aug. will be in my sights for a visit now. Thanks for telling me about it!
I love hearing about places before I visit and knowing you enjoyed it so much, it will be a stop on my vacation list sometime.

LoCarbGal 05-09-2013 09:36 AM

It sounds like a great place! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. And yes, the vacation weight will slide right off. You know it's not actual fat in that amount of time. It's just hard to see numbers going up by that much, I totally get it! I'm so glad you're not in throw-in-the-towel mode this time!

zipp2play 05-09-2013 11:10 AM

OH what an amazing trip you had! WELL WORTH those pounds and YES, they will fly right off of you!

Deen73 05-09-2013 11:23 AM

Thanks again, guys -- I knew I'd feel so much better coming here! :)

Trigger -- I cannot recommend it enough. It's funny you should say that, because my dad was just telling me last night that he'd made a day trip over to St. Augustine the last time he visited my uncle in Jacksonville. Apparently, they're pretty close together. I had never even known about it before living in Florida (much less that it's actually the oldest city in the country) -- and was absolutely blown away by it. I can't believe it doesn't get more publicity than it does -- the architecture, the history, just everything was SO worth the trip. I already can't wait to go back! :)

vickismc 05-09-2013 12:49 PM

What a fun vacation and I love the ghost tour! We did a similar tour in Seattle but it was the underground tour but felt like a ghost tour:).

I have to chime in on the weight 'gain'. We went out of town this past weekend and I gained 5lbs but after 2 DD's I took off that 5lbs plus .8 additional. Yours will slide right off too, I am sure of it!

Deen73 05-09-2013 02:52 PM

Lol -- yes, I'm making very good friends with lemon water today in an effort to see some sliding. I'm actually going to do a medium day tomorrow -- since my rotations got messed up, I wanted to still have an UD on Saturday (since it's going to be my daughter's birthday party) -- so I had to get a MD in there. Hope that works out ok! It'll be my first MD ever.

Trigger828 05-09-2013 04:03 PM

Deen I am off to research the mileage etc. and see if I can get over for a day. I am soooo interested now. thanks!

JMBM 05-10-2013 06:28 AM

I've read a few post where people have put on vacation weight, but were able to get it back off fairly quickly with hopping right back on plan. I think Dawn, Carly, and Kissa- aka Cindy all did. You will be fine. Just hop back on the JUDDD train!

lc-chica 05-10-2013 06:58 AM

Maybe I shouldn't weigh when I get home from vacation???? LOL

I am leaving next week for 6 days. Telling myself if it works out, I might do a DD in the middle of the trip but who knows about that :dunno:
Honestly I feel better on DD, not bloated, like it just balances everything out. So we shall see.

Sirtain 05-10-2013 07:30 AM

I think we should start a 'Vacation Weight' thread, with posts about how much we gained on vacation, and how many rotations it takes to get back down. :) Every time I see a post, I like to make a little bet with myself, how long it will take, and it would be fun to see them all together. And hey, I've got a vacation coming up in July!

TryingJudd 05-10-2013 11:56 AM

This weekend for me is going to be 2 UDs in a row. Not a vacation but a food fest nonetheless with back to back parties. I think my plan is not to weigh until mid week next week!

Shari4 05-10-2013 02:40 PM

Deen, sounds like your trip was well worth the temporary gain!! It will come right off, you'll see!!

I'm trying to talk my DH into going back to New Orleans this summer. We went on my 50th birthday & will my 64th coming up in a few days, I'd love to go back. We had so much fun & our daughter stayed with our son. So, we had no worries. Now, our son has an aide that is fantastic with him. I think the 2 guys would be just fine with us gone!! *fingers crossed* ;)

KeirasMom 05-10-2013 03:42 PM

I was in New Orleans probably around 12 years ago or so. I loved it! Haven't been back since Katrina.

Carly 05-10-2013 04:51 PM

When I was on vacation in April I didn't have a DD for 10 days. I went from 123.2 to 131.3:eek: ...gone after 2 rotations!!!! I also retain a ton of water when I fly and my vacations almost always include flying and water retention. I bet 2 good rotations and most if not all of the vacation bloat will be gone (... that means no UUADs ;))

Deen73 05-10-2013 05:57 PM

I love the idea of a vacation weight thread. Hearing that I'm not the only one it's happened to is very comforting -- I was a little nervous, because I'd been thinking that the SIrT1's were going to keep me from gaining much. I smugly expected 2 or, at most, 3 lbs. Boy was I in for a rude awakening. :) I MAY end up with a slightly UUAD tomorrow as it's my DD's birthday party (and... yeah... there's a homemade Paula Deen Chocolate Eclair cake involved... so... um... lol) But I've already had one great DD (less than 400) and am currently on a MD (1200) to make tomorrow an UD. I only need to stay under 2100, and that's a lot of calories. Next week though, everything will be back to normal.

Trigger -- oh, please do mention it if you get to go. I will live vicariously through you until my next trip! lol You'll love it, I know -- oh, and both the A1A Alehouse and Casa Maya had GREAT food, btw, if you'd like a reccomendation. ;)

Shari and Keira -- NOLA is my all-time favorite city. I have not been back since Katrina either, but constantly want to.

Thanks, JMBM -- I think it'll come off, but I'm scared to weigh! lol -- waiting to get a good three rotations under my belt!

Trigger828 05-10-2013 06:20 PM

I checked. It is only 1 1/2 hr drive from Jacksonville to St. Aug.

told hubby we are going for the whole day to explore.

he agreed. Now I can't wait and yes I wrote down those restaurants! THANKS!

Yennie 05-10-2013 10:41 PM

My husband's uncle lives in Jacksonville and we're hoping to visit some time in the next year. So we'll definitely add this to our to-do list! Our son just turned 3 so I don't know how much we'll be able to do of the "spooky" stuff but maybe we can check it out for a return trip later.
I love these boards & threads as we can learn so much more than just about weight loss.
Oh, and for my contribution for the "Weight gained while on Vacation" thread - I gained exactly zero pounds when we went to Disney for my son's birthday in April. HOWEVER, our first night back I was up all night long in the bathroom, um...expelling? A la a frat boy on a bender... So while I was pleased to have not gained, I would have traded that absolutely awful experience for just about any reasonable gain on the scale. Absolutely NOT a method I recommend. :(
