Anxious Judd newbie

Hi everyone
So after lots of reading up and thinking about it I've finally decided to try the Judd approach. The health benefits of this woe look great and hopefully the weight loss that comes along with it however, I am really struggling to get my head round the UD calories.

My ratio is 486/2429 and after a lifetime of dieting, restricting carbs/calories etc 2429 calories in one day seems an awful lot.
Does everyone on here consume all their calories on an UD? And from experience does it make much of a difference to your losses if you don't take in the calculated amount?thanks for your help

I got your allowances to be 374 for a DD and 1870 for a UD.
Sounds more like it!

It's important to eat up to your UD calories. You can do less on your DDs if it's comfortable for you. Or for the first couple of weeks, you can do 500 DDs and then work down from there.

I hope you enjoy JUDDDing. We recommend starting with a UD.

what is your exercise level? Did you put that in when calculating?
I plugged her into Dr. Johnsons calculations and got different number LOL

I'd go with FL's numbers, which are also what I got when I plugged you in.
Lashes, I'm not sure if you put in anything other than "little to no exercise" but the general consensus from everyone here is that you should put "little to no exercise" regardless of what level of exercise you do. We discussed this a bit in the newbie thread - check that out.

Welcome and definitely use the 374/1870! The other numbers would not be conducive to weight loss- regardless of your activity level, short of daily iron man competitions.

Thanks for your help guys, that figure sounds more like it. I had put into the calculator that I do 3-5 days of some sort of exercise as I go to the gym most days so that must be why it's so high.

Through my various journeys of weight loss I found it very important to eat my calories. I would stop completely or slow way down if I wasn't eating enough. My understanding is that the high day is high to trick the body into keeping your metabolism high. You can always adjust if your not seeing the results u want. I have the best success eating my calories on UDs and zero on DDs. If its to much food to consume just add some calorie dense foods. Just my experience.

Delta your weight loss stats are amazing. It is great to see a good success with JUDDD.
Was all your losses from doing JUDDD? (along with some fasting?)

To be honest my stats aren't quite that amazing now! I ended up in the hospital the end of January. I was off work for 45 days sitting at home wallowing in self-pity. Being a binge eater with anxiety issues, stress and depression from being off work really took its toll. I was out of my routine and lost my mojo. I was back up to 289.9lbs. before I new it. I'm back on my routine now and should fix my stats. Today was the first time I popped into the forums since January.

I started by just watching what I ate trying to cut the really bad stuff out. Stopped drinking 4 gallons of milk a week, no more pop etc. then did basic calorie counting for quite a bit of it. I tried low carb for maybe a week or two but craved my carbs to much. I didn't start playing with JUDDD till around Nov or Dec I think it was. I should have kept some sort or journal but didn't so I'm not sure on dates or exact amounts with each way. I'm not even sure if I'd call what I do now as JUDDDing. Maybe a modified form. I usually go between 48-58 hours between meals. I consume all my calories within a few hours. I like doing minimal dishes. It's just me so I don't have to cook for anyone else. Only thing I drink is half my body weight in water. (140ish oz.). Oh, and 10oz of black coffee on the way to work every morning.

I guess JUDDD is just one way of intermittent fasting maybe a little different than mine I suppose, but I've really enjoyed this way of eating. I feel absolutely fabulous on fasting days.

Hi, Lashes! I thought much the same thing when I started (my UD cals are 2100) -- that I will NEVER be able to eat that in one day. I've since found out, I can and easily! In fact, like so many on here, it's actually often easier to stick to my DD calorie limit than my UD. I think limiting cals so much on DD's REALLY gives your appetite a boost for your UD's. Don't worry -- you will do great and it gets easier and easier. As many wise folks have said on this very board -- it's the big swing in calories that does the "magic." Best of luck to you!

Delta -- I totally know what you mean about energy on the down days. I was just explaining to my friend (who maintains he could "never ever do that (fast) because I couldn't even get out of bed in the morning" -- that you actually have MORE energy on fasting days. I was out walking with the hubby tonight and kept saying "come on, let's run a little bit!" lol

Hi Lashes!! Welcome to JUDDD! I'm a newbie too, am just starting my second DD today. With the first DD, honestly I think the idea of keeping my cals under 500 was more worrying than the actual reality of it Second DD today so will see how I go

Although I exercise around 4-5 times a week I am sticking with the "little or no exercise" calories from the calculator. My UD calories are a tad over 2000 and downday a tad over 400. Yesterday on my UD I had about 1950 so pretty close.

Way I look at it, as long as my calories are high enough on UD to keep my body ticking along, then not eating the extra 300-400 calories from exercise will only benefit me. But I also in the back of my head I am thinking that at least if I have a special occasion where I might eat over 2000 on an UD it hopefully won't have too much impact. That is my theory anyway lol.
