Bad idea......?

Well, I have decided to go back to work. I've got two kids going to a major university and its financially putting us in a bit of a strain, so looking into part time work. However, I'm applying to wait tables at a nationwide country cooking restaurant (CB). Servers get half price meals and I'm just wondering if this might not be a good idea? the only reason I'm considering is b/c I worked there before and made really good tips, they are flexible, and I can work part-time. Really don't want to teach anymore, plus certification has expired, and I don't really want to go back to school at 45. I've done just about everything you can imagine except for things that could send me to jail and I just figured, wait some tables, make some money, and if it's horrible then I haven't really lost anything. I figure I can scope out the menu and stick to vegetable plates, and salads w/ ff dressings when eating there. I'll have to avoid biscuits like the plague though! Also, have no desire to work in retail stores. I also know how to decorate cakes, but that is out of the question! That would be a disaster! Any good ideas or suggestions would be great on how to work in a restaurant like this and keep on track would be awesome!

No. Mindless. Eating.

Which is a sensible way to live anyway.

On the plus side, plenty of walking and exercise.

It will be a challenge, JB, but I definitely wouldn't discourage you from working, wherever you feel comfortable. I think you can do it! On UDs you can allow yourself a biscuit, and always have that treat as a reward, if that works for you.

Sounds like a good plan. If you can make healthy choices from the menu, it should be fairly easy. Running about serving food all day, you're less likely to be tempted than hanging around at home with nothing better to do than think about food and finances!

also being part time, nothing says you have to buy the 1/2 price discount meal You can easily go without food for part time and eat at home.

think of it as work. just work. not a personal restaurant for yourself.

making an income is important. work is work. granted you will be near food but you have to work more than eat I would think

go for it and make some bucks!

You can do it and you don't have to eat their food if you don't want. It would be harder if it was free I guess, but you still have to pay for it so just pass on it on DD and enjoy something small on UD.

Whenever I've worked around food, it lost its appeal pretty quickly. Hopefully that will happen for you. I agree, you'll be walking tons and getting plenty of exercise. If you can make healthy choices or abstain on your DDs, you'll be ahead of the game!

Yay! I got the job!! You guys are the bomb! From what I understand your lunch breaks go really fast, so not a lot of time to stuff your face anyway. And I've seen those servers in there and they are busting it! I even thought about packing a little mini cooler w/ my turkey sandwich. I can make a nice sandwich for a couple hundred calories or so. If I work on an UD I won't worry so much about it. They have a lot of healthy veggie choices too so that will be good. Thank goodness there is no buffet!! I purposely did not apply at a restaurant that had a buffet. Great advice, thanks JB's!

Awwh, you are too LCG! Thanks for the encouragement! I hope I get pretty good tips. I don't expect to make a fortune, however just a little extra cushion will be nice.

For me, it's all about the gravy. I swear, I could (and have!) gotten a biscuit and gravy and left 2/3 of the biscuit and NONE of the gravy!!
