How long do you fast?

Do you all try to fast for a certain period between days?

For example:

UD - Last meal - Dinner @ 7:00 p.m.
DD - First meal - Dinner @ 7:00 p.m.

Or do you find this isn't really relevant? Or it's too uncomfortable?

Wondering if it really makes much of a difference....I've seen elsewhere where people who do this and just wondering why.

Some people like to fast within certain "windows" of time. Others just let the cards fall where they may. The natural pattern with JUDDD would be a 36 hour fast (or near that) and that's what I always followed.

Ex:
Dinner at 7:00 p.m on UD
Fast on 500 calories or less all through DD
Breakfast at 7:00 a.m. on the following UD

In the beginning, I think it's important to do it the way it was written and then let your body tell you what it wants as it progresses.

Carly usually doesn't eat until dinner on UDs. It works great for her, but I can't do that, even after more than a year.

ETA: I just realized you were asking about DD eating. Sorry. That also depends on how you feel. Many of us delay eating on DDs just because we get so few calories. Your DD is considered a "fast" anyway, but if you want to take in NO food or calories for a certain amount of time, that's okay. I often skip breakfast on a DD, but not always.

Exactly this.... On down days I eat around 4pm. Yesterday started my down day so I ate at 4pm on the 1st now I won't eat again until sometime in the morning on the 3rd. Generally it is shortly after I wake up.

In the very beginning I would to try to finish up eating by 7:00 in the evening, but then I just started doing whatever. I might have a small chocolate snack or some fruit around 9:30 or 10:00 if I feel like it. I do typically have my coffee/HWC later in the morning as my first calories, and often don't eat anything until dinner on DDs and lunch on UDs. Not always though! I don't worry too much about it!

I find I am trending toward eating the first of my Down Day calories later in the day, say about 1:00. But I am not doing it on purpose; it just seems to be happening because I am getting hungry later.

My eating trends are shifted a bit from the typical norm anyway - breakfast at 10am, dinner at 7pm or later...
I always end up eating later in the evenings - after working out, etc... So if I snack on an UD it's going to be around 9 or 10pm. But besides my morning coffee, I haven't been eating on DDs until around 3pm.

I think if I consciously called it "fasting" my brain would rebel and tell me I'm starving! But since I can eat a little on the DDs I've tricked it! LOL

With all the variations of success you see on this board, I don't think it matters in the scheme of weight loss. Many people find as soon as they eat something, they get really hungry, so they just put it off as long as possible. Do what works for you to manage your hunger on DD.

I tend to wait as long as possible and have one big meal so I'm not hungry while I sleep. The 2 times I ate a late lunch and a small dinner I woke up hungry in the middle of the night. I also seem to have bigger post DD weight losses after a day where I fast all day and have one bigger meal for dinner instead of several small meals.

I eat breakfast everyday and have from the beginning of my weight loss journey. I can easily eat my calories earlier in the day and be just fine.

I don't, but then I have a natural tendency to want eat more in the early part of the day no matter what. I have to eat with my morning meds so I always have either a HB egg or something else quick and easy for DD breakfast. After breakfast I don't really usually get hungry till 4 or so, and I have a shake then, or if I am making something DD friendly for DH and DS for supper I will have a bit of that. I rarely EAT after 6 or so ever.

I usually subsist on coffee in the morning (before work and on the way to work), and then just water and/or diet soda until 1 pm on DDs. Then I have a small meal consisting of little snacks.

WOE: Induction (Paleo), JUDDD & IF w/BPC!

I hope I have been doing JUDDD correctly but this is how long I fast for.

Everyday, whether DD or UD, I have a BPC consisting of around 1.5TBPS Butter and 1.5 TBSP organic coconut oil and a teaspoon splenda or shot of SF Torani syrup.

On UD I have my coffee before noon and then eat between 2 - 6pm or so. I do not eat or drink anything but water after 8pm.

On DD I wake up have my BPC and nothing but water for the rest of the day. If I feel like I need something I will make a jasmine or green tea later on in the day with a teaspoon of splenda.

I really have very few cravings (if ever) so doing this is pretty easy for me after so long in Induction. In fact, I find myself having an easier time with my walking and exercise on DD rather than UD. On UD I find myself more lethargic.

Deosil - you don't eat anything at all on your DD? I don't think I could do that.

I had my dinner at 7:00 last night (UD) and made it until 1:00 today.

Sounds like everybody's a little different, which is to be expected.

I DO have my BPC in the morning and I think that makes all the difference. I had tried to fast like that before I started BPC and although I would make it through, it was a struggle. I am not sure if it is a mental thing or actually the fats in the BPC helping me not crave or be hungry but whatever it is, it allows me to completely fast on DD.

Deosil, that's approximately 300 calories on DD's right? I have tried BPC, but not consistently, and only one or the other (CO or butter). Have you lost 41 lbs since Jan.? It sounds like it's working great for you!!

Yes that is correct. With the BPC I consume around the 300 mark on DD maybe a little less since some DD days I only use 1TBSP each of butter and coconut oil. I have lost the 41 since January but have not weighed out yet since joining here. I have only been doing my tweaked WOE now for 2 weeks with the JUDDD/Induction/BPC & IF and won't re-weigh yet since the scale usually brings me down. I always want to see a lot more loss than I do so I only weigh every month or so. I DO know I have to have lost a nice bit more since reworking my WOE. My clothes are a heck of a lot looser and my energy levels are far, far better.

I was just coming to ask a similar question - but regarding UDs. I wonder how it would affect me to mostly fast (in terms of hours) on UDs. My last UD I didn't eat until 3pm and I had a nice loss. I hate when I get suspicious and paranoid about what is (or might) work.

I just broke my fast (I'm on an UD) with two pieces of dark chocolate (which I ordinarily hate) and they were delicious.

It's not a problem to eat late(r) on UDs as well, as long as you can get all of your calories in. I don't eat in any windows (or doors ), but should really fast longer on UDs because I find myself eating too much too early in the day.

That's the amazing thing about JUDDD(IF). It's so adaptive and tweakable!

I personally go anywhere from 48-72 hours between meals depending on if I had two UDs together. I usually have two UDs on my days off work. This week I fed on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday and today nothing but a cup of coffee in the mornings and water throughout the day! I wont eat till tomorrow night when i get home from work. If I only have one UD then it's usually 48 hours between meals. I'm not crazy about dirty dishes and I feel much better when I'm fasting. I've done repetitive 23 hour fasts before finding JUDDD by eating just one meal a day. I just try not to go more than 72 hours because I've read a lot about the metabo slowing down after 72 hours. I think anyway you decide to do it will work for weight loss. There are some studies that suggest going at least 18 hours(I think it was) will increase the growth hormone in your system which will prevent muscle mass loss and influence fat burning! Just do whatever seems the most comfortable and that will probably change as you progress!

DDs i try to eat just once a day in the evening, UDs vary a lot, sometimes three meals a day other days just lunch and dinner, depending where i am and what i'm doing. I don't seem to have any difficulty in skipping breakfast once i've done a few rotations.
