I second what Dawn said. I bet a lot of the 7# is water from a change in routine and a few good rotations & that stuff will be outta there! We've been semi-seriously talking about starting a Vacation thread to discuss how much weight we gained when we went on vacation & off plan, and how quickly it came back off. I'm thinking more & more that sounds like a good idea just to give people hope.

Glad to have you back, Lori!

Thanks BUDDDs!

The gain would have been more worth it had I been on a vacation having fun! Just eating out of boredom & because it was there for 5 days does a lot of damage. I'm drinking a lot of water today and had a nice salad for lunch. I decided to just have moderate calorie days today and tomorrow and then hit it with a good fast on Monday.

Hope to report that things are looking better by the end of the coming week!

Thanks again for your support!

Lori - I gained 5lbs in 3 days of an away weekend recently and I lost all of it plus some in 3 good DD's. You can do it!

Sherri - I am sorry for your losses. It is never easy and it sounds like your family has had their fair share recently.

Need to add exercise to the equation but I tried walking and my foot with the screws hurts like crazy so I am thinking I need to dust off the Bow Flex and get busy. I HATE exercise so this is the hardest part for me.

Well, I changed my weight on the control panel to reflect my gain. I have to own the number. Beginning again today....hoping I can kick this 5 lbs to the curb in short order!

First fast day in over a week.....could be a rough one. I'll be really busy at work, that will help. Off to boot camp in a few minutes....yikes....hitting the ground running this morning!

I order DVDs for our library and every other day or so I will get a postcard in the mail advertising a DVD (at work). This afternoon I got one with a picture on the front of a scale and female feet on it (nails painted red) and the read out "188.8". The title of the DVD is "Are You Destined to be Fat?" I know I'm still fat, but when I got to 188, I thought I was getting a lot thinner, lol. I don't know anything else about the DVD, but it sounds depressing. As if there's nothing you can do about it.

Is it a fiction or non-fiction movie? I've never heard of it either. I wonder if it's like the book "...Then Just Stay Fat." I really enjoyed it and it keeps me motivated even in maintenance.

DW is eating a grilled steak with onions fried in butter. I've eaten, well, nothing, but it will be 9pm in 10 minutes and I"ll have my little DD bedtime snack.

It's some kind of documentary. I didn't read the description yet. It's on my desk, so I might say more about it tomorrow.

Interesting DVD - I'd be interested to hear more about it. I do think its much more complicated than calories in/calories out. And what works for one does not necessarily work for others. I realize this is not a groundbreaking concept - we all know this - but I wish effortlessly skinny people & the media would remember it as well!

I saw that. She's on my Facebook feed so it popped up when she posted. I also enjoyed it - I love the honestly with which she posts. I hope she sticks around, and I hope her books comes out and, most of all, I hope she's well enough to enjoy life. Poor thing.

Well I had the title wrong and everything, lol. The DVD is "Programmed to be Fat?" It questions whether we are programmed from birth to be fat, because of endocrine-disrupting chemicals...new science suggests exposure to man-made chemicals, starting in the womb, may be triggering changes to our metabolism that result in life-long weight gain (they seem to trace it back 3 decades).

I really never had a serious weight problem until my middle/late 30s, so I know it didn't happen from birth, for me. Plus I was born more than 3 decades ago. Sounds interesting though.

I just saw a tv commercial for a product called "Slimful". Apparently its a meal bar with 90 calories that, when eaten with a glass of water helps control cravings. The cartoon showed the bar expanding in the stomach so I'm assuming fiber or glucomanan or ???

Anyway, the point of this? The dress the actress was wearing was so incredibly unattractive and unflattering. Not at all something I would choose, especially for a commercial on a weight loss product, and I'm no fashionista; I'm like a poster child for "What not to wear".

I had a very stressful day yesterday and ended up going over my DD calories by about a 1000. I was up nearly 4 lbs over my low at 4 am this morning. Been up every since then and have now eaten a sausage biscuit and two donuts, and coffee with cream and sugar before 9 am. I feel like a dieting failure and doomed to eternal fatness right now.

Don't feel bad. I was all set to eat a nice healthy salad for dinner on Friday so I made a huge salad platter and left it for my hubby to have some then I was going to have some later. Well, turns out he thought I didn't want any and ate 90% of it!!! Not enough for me for dinner so I said FINE and ran out and bought 2 slices of spinach artichoke pizza!! Yeah, brilliant! Probably 500 calories a slice! Then yesterday I figured it could be a MD, yeah right! I got this yummy apple cinnamon frozen greek yogurt. ATE THE WHOLE THING. 600 calories...up 2.2 lbs since Thursday...BUT I am going to kick myself in the butt and quit the nonsense. Do I feel like a fool? Yup, but not a failure if I keep trying! Sometimes I wish someone would just come up to me and smack me upside the head while I'm in the grocery store buying these fattening items...anyone want to take the job. I will pay well

Hmmm,I think I did see that commercial when I was at the gym a while back. I thought it sounded kooky. I don't remember the actress though. I will have to keep an eye out for it. Sounds entertaining at least LOL

LG, maybe the diet fatigue kicking up it's ugly head? Were you going to try a maintenance break? I do understand. I have a definite on/off switch. I start noticing it the closer I get towards goal, too. I do NOT understand the self destruct button a lot of us seem to have, but I sure have one. Hugs to you gf, we are all in this together!!!!

No! You are not a failure! This is how things in life work for me, so this is just my experience. I will not give something (insert anything here such as diet, work out, study, clean, go on interviews, etc...) until I am throroughly disgusted by the situation the way it is and see no other option than to do the said task and give it my all. I have to hit a so called "bottom" with things before I get to a place where I will go to any length to improve the situation. I was in said miserable place with my weight in Feb. 2012. I felt physically aweful and was ashamed of my appearance. I was totally ready to do whatever it took to get out of that place and to hopefully never return. I had already been overweight for 5 yrs and not happy, but I hadn't done much up till that point. However, when I got into that place I was ready to do anything and everything that it took and for me that was keeping the fridge and pantries bare since I sleepwalk eat and going to the store daily to get what I needed.

Again, I'm just speaking from my experience in life with doing things that aren't necessarily fun or easy, but at some point I do, because it comes to a point in time where not doing it with 100% of my being is not worth it to me.

I can certainly attest to the fact that it's not just calories in and calories out! I have a dairy sensitivity/allergy (not sure which) but I was the same weight for a week UNTIL I decided to add fat free greek yogurt in. Overnight I gained a pound (while eating 500 calories) from the yogurt. I decided to try it again the next day (you'd think I'd have learned! lol) and the next day I was up ANOTHER pound while only eating 500 calories (this was while I was in P2 of hcg). So clearly it was not fat-weight but was caused by some sort of inflammation or response to the dairy in the greek yogurt.

I have since lost those 2 lbs on my first week of 5:2 but I now know I have to be really careful with dairy or it will cause gains. On my feast day yesterday I did have some frozen sugar free yogurt last night and a few bites of my son's cream of crab soup (I took a Lactaid pill first) so I made the decision NOT to weight myself today because I'm sure it'd be inflated due to that dairy. I was also in a lot of pain all night long from the dairy. I guess I really need to just come to terms with the fact that dairy and my body do NOT get along more than just a little bit of blue cheese or parm sprinkled on things

Some of you know that my Mother has been in the hospital for several days. She is 82 years young & a real fighter! She's had double breast cancer, colon cancer & skin cancer. Also, she deals with COPD & asthma. Her doctor put her on oxygen since she had really low O2 levels when she was admitted to the hospital & will probably go home with oxygen. She really doesn't want to tho. Also, she has peripheral neuropathy & has great difficulty walking without falling. Yesterday, they discovered she has fluid around her heart. Due to chemo, she has not had an appetite for much except for sweets since then. But, she is also diabetic. So, if you could, please say a prayer for her. She has become so frail & Daddy being 83 has a hard time dealing with all of this. My sister does so much of Mother & Daddy's care since she lives so close to them & I have my son to care for which makes it difficult for me to drive 4 hours to be with them. To add to the mix, my sister's husband is on dialysis & is hoping to have a transplant very soon.

So, right now, stress is high for my family. The only thing that's working well for me right now is my eating. I have my moments; but, being on 5:2 is working really well for me in maintenance!

Sorry for writing such a long post!

LG! I can completely relate to this ... I'm sure just about everyone here can. It's part of the journey, but I think it's critical what we say to ourselves when it happens. What if we take the "I'm a diet failure and doomed to eternal fatness," and THAT and replace with, "I had a stressful day, but it was just one day, which in the larger scheme of things is no big deal. I know what to do now." I think the "doomed to eternal fatness" self talk sometimes leads into the sausage biscuit and two donuts, you know? I do it too. My specialty is the "Nothing I do works so why try?" (which is a completely ridiculous thing to say when you've lost 64 pounds, but that's my point).
