What do you feel are the 3 most important supplements to take?

Right now I have too many bottles of vitamins

I am just wondering if they are all needed every single day!

I feel the most important ones are vitamin D3, calcium, and a multivitamin, but I'm not real sure on that either

What are your thoughts please!

I'm less than helpful as I take nothing. I never remember to take stuff on a regular basis so I've just given up. (Its also <TMI alert> why I no longer use the pill for birth control )
I just try to have as complete a diet as possible, taking a lot of principles from ETL and PHD. I'm sure I'm deficient but it is what it is.

My big 3- multivitamin, vitamin D, fish oil. Oh and I take magnesium and melatonin at night. Sorry that's more than 3.

magnesium - I just ran out and have a very hard time finding the right one What kind are you taking, and how much?

I tried fish oil, but I taste it all day so never got any more, DH does take Krill oil, hoping to low his cholesterol numbers - he goes back for blood work in a couple weeks so we shall see!

I take a multi-vitamin (women's formula with vitamin D), a Glucosamine & Condroitin w/MSM and Melatonin at night. I also take Pterostilbene, L-Glutamine and Green Coffee Bean Extract. For me the top three are:

1. multi-vitamin w. extra Vitamin D
2. Ptero - hunger control, ups Sirtuin levels
3. Melatonin - sleep is soooo important to helping control over-eating and making smart choices)

Leonak, Green Coffee Bean Extract is a fat burner. It helps with mindless snacking. It became popular a few months ago because Dr. Oz endorsed it as a fat burner. Google the terms "Dr. Oz Green Coffee Bean Extract" to find videos of his segments Dr. Oz did on his show about it. I would paste the link, but don't want it to get flagged. People post comments on his site and you never know what the moderators might consider a "competing forum"

I have some daily prescriptions that I have to take, so I try not to add too many more to the list. I just started taking a calcium supplement with vitamin D included in one pill at the recommendation of my GYN. I do add vitamin C at certain times of the year, but not all seasons.

D3, Ptero, B complex with extra B12.

I also take Vit C and CoQ10, magnesium citrate, Omega 3, Lutin and Kelp.

It depends on your general diet and lifestyle.. No way I get enough D3 through sunlight in the UK!! So I supplement.

Ptero gives me a tangible boost each day. B vits are so vital and it's easy to get low on a diet that rules out grains and a lot of meat. Even people who eat meat can be low on B12.

Vit C is probably not important on my high fruit and veg diet of the moment. But on low carb you need it. I take the kelp to keep my thyroid healthy as that's a weakness. Q10 is a superb anti-ager and Lutin is for eyes and skin. I also love fish so the Omega 3 is just a back up. I can't remember why I take the Magnesium but everyone raves about it.

It all gets expensive, especially the anti-aging ones like lutin and Q10. So I try and cut back as much as I can.

I take magnesium citrate 200 mg the generic kind from natural grocers.

I think multivitamins fall outside your list, now that the AMA and similar organizations in other countries are telling doctors that every patient should be taking a multivitamin - it's already a a given.

So I would say:

1) Vitamin D is essential. A blood test will show you just how essential, usually, since something like 80 percent in US alone are deficient.

2) Astaxanthin, if you can only take one antioxidant, since it is the most potent by far, has the most anti-inflammatory qualities, and is the most efficient, helping brain and eyes more than any other.

Fish Oil or Krill Oil is so enthusiastically recommended by so many experts it really can't be denied. The most compelling case is for brain health, IMO. However, it is a whole food, not a compounded supplement, so in theory it would be considered part of a healthy regimen, not necessarily just one in a list of pills.

So I think that gives me another choice for the big 3, and I will give that nod to
3) pterostilbene.

One more thought is that Vitamin D needs Vitamin K to do its work, so look that up to make sure you're getting enough in diet.

Supplements are eye-wateringly expensive in the UK.

I didn't take any until Monday The testimonials here have convinced me to try pterostilbene.

FYI if you take d3 you need to take k2 to protect your blood vessels and heart..

I have to take probiotics every day, and I eat probiotic foods too
I like the effect of pterostilbene, and notice more hunger when fasting without it
I take C most of the time and a good multi
I'm currently also taking milk thistle, which I do periodically, along with NAC sometimes for liver

We have a tea tray on the counter at home full of supplement bottles, and at work I sit down every morning, open my personal drawer and fill a cute little chinese teacup with everything I take.

Hi, Jackie, I purchase Nordic Naturals for myself and also for elderly family members, although we use Nordic Naturals liquid form for eldercare, since it's easy to swallow.

Hi deedee, the only side effects I have seen with the green bean coffee extract is a bit more oiliness in my skin and a few pimples. My skin tends to be a bit acne-prone, but I usually do not break out. I noticed that I get a pimple or two when I take the recommended dosage of the green coffee bean extract. The good news is that, for me, this means it is working and my metabolism has actually increased. The only other thing that has caused me to break out was taking phentermine, which increased my metabolism as well (in addition to the neuro effects).
Disclaimer: Please do your own research about side effects and talk to your doctor. It might not be the right supplement for you depending on your current health status/pre-existing conditions.

Thanks for the info DaSMHith! I will keep those side effects in mind. I think I'm going to give the ptero a few more days to see if the headaches fade before adding in one more pill.

I take a multi, reservatrol (100 mg), vitex (herbal supplent), magnesium citrate, and melatoninnnnnnnnnnn I have some petro, I keep forgetting to take it, but only one early early cuz' I can't sleep when I take 2 of them (100 mgs total)....so that is that.

I got it at a nutrition store, like Vitamin Shoppe or GNC. I think most places like that will have it. Netrition's great, but I'm a bit impatient and my orders take longer than I like, so I try it from somewhere local first and then decide if I'm going to keep taking it, I can order it.

I also read a lot from Dr. M. and learn so much. I am trying to find a calcium that has Vitamin K2, I did find a chewable one that says vitamin K, would that be ok? It is on sale now for buy one get 2 free and free shipping until May 5, so

Your cute teacup sounds ever so cute!! I do not have one but do have a collection of "shot glasses" that will do nicely! have shot glasses from all over the world, but never used any for vitamins!

That's a good one, at 1/3 the cost of the prescription Lovaza I was taking, with pretty much the same EPA/DHA amount and ratio.

I take One a Day Women's Multivitamin, Omega 3 and Raspberry Ketones. I am thinking of adding in Green Coffee Bean also soon. Do I think I *need* to take these things? Probably only the multivitamin. Do I feel better taking all of the above? Yes I do. Whether it is just a mental thing or what I DO feel like they are all helping.
