Precious, precious Soren,

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I can absolutely identify with how you are feeling. These miraculously wonderful animals that we are honored and blessed to share our lives with are family in the truest sense of the word, and their loss in our day to day lives can seem almost unbearable at times.

If she could, she would thank for for all the wonderful love that you gave her, and for being strong enough to be able to end her suffering. Your beautiful baby girl Alyeea will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge one day, and she will be healthy, happy and young again.

Take really good care of yourself and know that we are here for you.

Soren, I am of the opinion that you have to do what makes you comforable at the moment. If it is eating more on a DD to cope, so be it. I am sure others won't agree (probably why I lose as slowly as I do). But I truly feel that sometimes a person just needs to let go and not feel the physical hunger so the body can focus on dealing with the emotional issues.
My heart goes out to you girl. I too know the pain! It is heartbreaking!

So it's a week after I last posted, and I'm feeling MUCH better!

I haven't cried in days, I think. I'm still worried a bit for Haka-- he's changing the way and what he eats, and might still be battling a UTI.

I also found a greyhound charm on overstock, and I think I'll be able to wear it and think of her and not totally freak out.

Haven't done anything with the ashes (which still does freak me out) but moved them out of the way so I don't see them every day. I'm not there yet.

And the leaves are coming in on her shrub (red-twig dogwood shrub) so I'm watching that grow and thinking of her.
Oh jeez, now I'm tearing up. But in a good way I guess.

Anyway-- just posted not to elicit more (though they're always welcome) but as a thank-you again to all of you wonderful folks, and to anyone who reads and might not post and is going through something painful right now... Time, kindness, and sleep, make everything better.

Thank you, Soren. Dogs can be so much more than pets.

This is my beloved Shamie, my friend and comfort, she's 10 in this picture. Half the reason i was in such a hurry to buy this place was because I felt guilty about her only having a tiny yard for so long after my divorce.

But less than a year after we moved here, to 3 acres in the country, she was diagnosed with cancer, i finally had to put her down 9 months later, she was not quite 12. This was 6 years ago, and i'm crying with you now.

I wanted to scatter her ashes in the county park she loved so much, but I never could. She's in a wooden box on my dresser, and that's where I want her.

Out of the muck and growing towards the light

AH, so sorry. I have lost a few pets and I know that feeling.

Worst was my horses. I had 2 I had to put down. Hardest thing in the world.
we farm, so hubby did the deed and fired up the backhoe.

believe me when you have to do the work yourself and handle a big death like horses, it just is mind numbing.

I hope you feel better.

One thing I always say is that the animal lived the best of a great life while I owned them and for that I know I did right by them. makes it seem a bit easier
Gonna get this done

Soren, I love the charm, and I think it will be a wonderful reminder of your precious pup.

I'll tell you what I did with my Dusty's ashes, which I had for several years before I did anything. And I'm ashamed to say my childhood dog Trixie's ashes too, which had been in my mom's hall closet since 1989. I found cherrywood picture box/cubes where you put photos in each side and on top. The top has a hinge and you can put momentos in. I got two and put their ashes and small things like collars, tags in too. Now they're both with me all the time.

Lynn, Shamie was beautiful, and what a beautiful setting! I know you miss her.

Here are my two babies. Trixie's the black and white shnoodle and Dusty's the sheltie. As you can see, they were both "smilers." Can't help sharing them with you.

There are all sorts of ways to honor your baby's memory (and, believe me, I've just about seem them all...) - whatever is the most comforting to you is the right thing.
I'm thinking of having my best girl made into a diamond. Yes, they can do that now. Its $$$$ but I don't care. She is still with me, thankfully, but this way she always will be.
Hugs to you Soren. I'm glad you're feeling better. Its a nice memory of all our critters.
These are my 2 a few years back in the snow: the nut in the front is the one currently sporting the splint for the broken foot, and the old lady is behind him.

I'm so sorry to hear about your baby. I know the loss of a beloved pet is devastating... but it does get better. I had two beagles who passed, one from liver failure from meds to control his epilepsy and the other from kidney failure. I miss them both, but I find comfort that they aren't suffering anymore. I still have their ashes and collars ten and two years later. It does get better, bit by bit.
