Officially jumping into the JUDDD pool

Well, I've officially switched over to JUDDD. Today is my down day, so I've had a 0-calorie fruit water for breakfast, 60-calorie soup and 45-calorie bread with 2 pieces of 15-calorie ham for lunch, grand total so far of 135 calories. I have to stay under 500, so I have 365 left for the day. Yesterday was my up day, and it was very strange to eat some carbs. I had a few potato chips with dip and a taco in a bag at my daughter's volleyball game. Spaghetti for supper last night. I didn't overdo it, though, and I think I reined my portions in really well - didn't even count up the calories because I don't think I came close to the 2000 I could have. One of these up days, I'm going to have pizza - haven't had it in 6 weeks, and that's a new record for me! We'll see if I finally get below 234 by next Monday.

My 16-year-old daughter is joining me, and I'm following the lead of somebody else on the board. I read that her son is doing it also, and they go by 1000-2000 for DD and UD. My daughter is very active and jogs and also plays volleyball so has practice 2 days a week right now and tournaments on Sundays. I'll be interested in seeing how she does. I don't think she has to lose much, maybe a few pounds she put on this winter being stuck indoors all the time.

Hi, Nanner, welcome to JUDDD!

I noticed our stats are very similar -- I just got down into the 220's this week for the first time in quite a while -- and it feels SO good! Hope you like this WOE -- don't let the first couple of DD's get you down (and don't feel bad if you need to go over a little) -- they are hard at first, but get so much easier. You'll do great -- welcome!!

Nanner -- so far exactly 5 pounds of my weight loss has been on JUDDD (I've been doing it 3 weeks today!). I actually have a lap band although, sadly, the only weight loss I can attribute to it is the 10 lbs I had to lose to get approved by the surgeon to get it. Even the liquid diet for weeks after did not help me lose any more -- that's when I began to suspect I had hormonal problems (pcos). I tried a paleo lifestyle last year, and lost 10 more pounds -- I felt good, but it just wasn't sustainable for the long-term for me (at least not strictly). I really like this WOE - I know it's probably going to be slow-going, but even at this rate, I'll be a lot better off in a year than I am now. The key was finding something I could stick to, and I think this is it!

Tami , it is my son that is following JUDDD with the calories of 1000/2000c. He is very deligent but flexible with it. Saturday was a DD for him and he had plans with his girl friend to make dinner / dessert for her family. He fasted all day long and ate (within reason) at her house that evening. He is young so he doesn't want her or his friends to know he is "dieting."

I would guess a few rotations and your daughter will be where she wants to be. Let us know how it goes and to this wonderful community of GREAT people!

It definitely takes something that we can live with to lose - thanks for letting me know your history. I've followed LC more times than I can remember but can never sustain it. I'm also going through perimenopause, so I think that's slowing me down right now. Hopefully, I'll get things moving again with JUDDD.

Zipp - I'm glad to hear your son is still at it. I really don't think my daughter needs to lose, but she's definitely self-conscious about her weight, which I hate. I think she looks great, but I know how it is when you're a teen (30 years and I still remember). I just want her to be healthy and not get into the yo-yo frame of mind. She's having trouble with the "eating more calories" and wants to know if it's okay not to eat to 2000, but I keep telling her she needs to have that gap in there and that she should read up in the diet so she knows how it works. I think she has played around a bit with anorexia, and it makes me nervous. I'll be happy when she gets out of her teen years and hopefully realizes how beautiful and wonderful she really is one day.

Here's a pic of my daughter and son - kind of blurry but you get the idea:

Thank you so much. My daughter thinks she looks "mannish" because she's very athletic and has a lot of muscle. My son just wants to start jogging this summer and do more weightlifting for football. He can eat like a horse, and he'll still be okay.

Beautiful kids!

Your daughter's a big-boned girl for real! I remember that well, I have broad shoulders and a muscular build...all the little willowy things wearing their boyfriend's shirts and looking cute and swallowed up...my boyfriend's shirts fit me, and I was skinny then...and anorexic/bulemic

Tell her it will pay off later, you can carry a lot more weight on those bones and still look good. I'm 5'7, and can wear a 7 at 170lbs. Ain't nowhere near that now, but still..

Can i just get this out of my system? NANNER NANNER NYA NYA!

Thanks!

Good luck with your JUDDD journey!

haha -yes, you can get it out of your system. I got my name from my nieces who couldn't say Tami when they were little and called me Nanny, evolved to Nanner, and they still call me that at the ages of 25 and 27, so it stuck.

Yes, my daughter is big boned and considers it a curse because, as you've said, the other girls are smaller, but she does carry her weight well, as I always did back then. I hope she'll be thankful for it later in life, but I know teen years are hard. I hate that she's not happy with herself, because I think she's perfect.

Just shows you how different people's perceptions are: I think your daughter looks slender.

My daughter(18) has expressed an interest in trying JUDDD this summer, once her finals are over. She has just a little(maybe 10 pounds) of extra weight. I would love for her to be able to lose it at this age, instead of it turning into the big problem that I have. I'm so much more educated now about health and weight- I swish I had learned all this (lower carb, primal, proper IF) years ago, so my kids could have grown up with it.

I think she is slender also but, when I was at her volleyball game the other day, they had received their new jerseys for their uniforms, and it was a tight-fitting top, not loose at all (nor was it on the other girls), and I could tell that she was uncomfortable, thinking that it was clinging too much to her and showing what she thinks is I guess a little pudge around the middle. She put her sweatshirt on right after every game, though she must have been hot. Then, on the ride home, she was crying but wouldn't tell me what was wrong. The next day, she told me she wanted to try JUDDD with me, so I'm sure that was the problem. She is more broad across the shoulders than her classmates. There are a couple of girls on the team who are definitely overweight, but the majority are quite thin, but I wish she would see that this one has thick thighs and that one has a bigger rearend and that no one is perfect, you know? She definitely has body issues, which scares the heck out of me.

She looks slender and beautiful to me. I hate that any kid has to feel that way. I hate that I felt large when I was a teen, and I most certainly was not.

Nanner - Volleyball stuff, IN GENERAL, is all super tight. I do NOT like the tight spandex short shorts and the tops are just marginally better! GRRRR Of coarse my DD11 is younger, but still, I can only imagine the discussions we will have in the future about her DAD and I finding her longer less revealing spandex shorts!!!!

Yes! Those shorts are crazy and so expensive for such itty, bitty things. Thankfully, she's a very modest dresser otherwise - don't know how I would handle one of those girls who wants to dress revealingly!

Thank you - I will let you know. She hasn't weighed and doesn't want to, says that she doesn't want to be discouraged by seeing what is on the scale, so she's going to go by how she feels and how her clothes fit, which is fine, but it will be harder to gauge how she is doing.

It's frustrating because I asked her how much she wants to lose, and she says she wants to get down to 115!!! That's crazy and much too low for her body type and height. I think 150 would be about perfect for her and no less than 140.

During high school, when I thought I was fat, I weighed 140 at 5'8". The exact perfect weight. I wish someone had told me that I was weighing just what I should. Instead, I just looked at the skinny-minnies, and thought that was what I was supposed to look like. And started on a 30-year voyage of messing with diets. And yet, hearing it from your mom, just won't do it.

Has she looked at weight charts to get her 115 number? Or is she just pulling it out of thin air. (Can't tell how tall she is, but judging by the volleyball size, I would say MORE than 5'3"!) I still think the classic formula (100 pounds, plus 5 pounds for every inch over 5'0", plus or minus 10% for small-large frames/muscle) is a good place to start.

I think she's just going by what she considers is skinny and not taking into account her frame size and height - she's 5'7". I'm going to get a tape measure and measure her wrist to see what frame size she is - it's either average or large but, if large, she's considered at a desirable weight right now at 175 (if that's where she is) according to the BMI calculator for large frames. If she's average, she's considered overweight, but not by much. Her legs are all muscle, and she hates that, but it's from volleyball, basketball (she used to play), and she jogs. I wish she would realize how many people would love to have her legs!

If you circle your second finger and thumb around your wrist and they don't touch...that is 'large-framed'.

My daughter is built just like me...but only 5'2! Fortunately, she never had huge body issues, but inherited my crappy metabolism and whacked-out nervous system, so at 30 she really has to watch it.
