TOM arrived yesterday. I hate when it's around for the birthday. Who wants to feel bloated on their birthday? Grr

Had a good DD though. I worked 9-6 and I fasted until dinner. Consumed 300 calories for the day.

Wow, my first really rough down day (Saturday).
I had my plan and when I learned that the frozen meal I had planned was NOT in my freezer it threw me for a loop.
That is just crazy.
It was like I pouted all day. I ate a different Lean Cuisine for only 10 more calories but I didn't like it and I felt deprived all day.
I am going to have to work on being more flexible. I had plenty of very low calorie soup on hand but I just wanted what I wanted.
Crazy.
I made it, but 50 calories over what I wanted to eat.
I am going to enjoy my UD today and prepare a FLEXIBLE eating plan for my DD tomorrow. Lots of additional snow here so I am not going to the grocery store.
Some times I quack me up, ducky.

DD is good so far. Probably should give it a 5- and the minus is because my tummy is growling and I hate it when that happens.

Slurping on some ACV water and hoping I can stop having to listen to the lion in my stomach.

Lately I have been looking forward to UDs and DDs with equal enthusiasm.

I actually think that mindset is helping me get through the DDs quickly and happily. Of course, I imagine when the scale stops being so friendly, I will go back to resenting the DDs. For now, I'll just be glad.

Well I went from a 5- to a plain ole' 4 by tonight. I'm all done at 185 calories, so not too bad.

It was tough watching the Oscars without a snack. Especially when Ellen brought out pizza!!

9:30 now and I'm headed to bed, hoping for a good night's sleep. Seriously looking forward to my UD tomorrow.

It's odd how these things can throw you on DDs. Did you ever read StephDRay's account of her JUDDD journey? I still smile whenever I think of this UD account which seems to go double for the careful calculations of DD: 36 weeks on JUDDD and not so chill.
Quote:
Ok, so in my efforts to get my up days under control, I carefully planned out a genius up day menu, featuring our favorite and most filling low-carb, low-calorie meal: Buffalo Chicken Wraps.

But when dinner time rolls around, my white knight and I fall prey to a stunning series of comic misunderstandings and tragic missteps. First, the unhappy discovery: We are almost out of wraps! Not enough for both of us.

Irritated by the fact that I've so carefully planned my calories for the day and now had to start over, I murmur something about how we're going to have to make something else. What my husband apparently hears is, "Please go ahead and make the only dinner that fits into my calorie count for today and leave me to fend for myself..." And then, as I stand there gaping at him while he cooks, he assumes I am merely slack-jawed with amazement at his mad tortilla-folding skills.

When he finally notices the steam rising from my ears, he offers to split it. And we can just add some other side. Except that I didn't know of any side off the top of my head that would go with a buffalo chicken wrap, much less fit in with my calorie guidelines. This would require more math. And if I had wanted to do math, I wouldn't have become a writer!

Moreover, this is my up day and I don't want some kind of culinary bastardization of a wrap-and-mystery-side. Embittered, I stomp to the freezer to find something, anything, that might work with the calories I have left. But nothing. Closest thing I have is a bag of chicken fried rice from Trader Joe's. It's off by only 100 calories. Fine. Except, as I start to cook it, I realize that it requires oil. That's another 100 calories. Also, its bland as hell. Which means it requires spices. In goes garlic paste and chili paste. Another 50 calories. And damn, this is a lot of rice. What if this carb-heavy meal leaves me hungry? I add an egg. Another 75 calories. And now I'm just grumpy as hell.

The white knight, at this point, offers me his wraps. Anything to stop the crazy! But he's put walnuts in the damned wraps and doesn't he know how many calories are in walnuts? That wasn't in the plan! So I tell him what he can do with his buffalo chicken wraps...
Whether you're or a JUDDD veteran, it's worth reading through Steph's JUDDD reports.

I've asked this question a couple of times but I think it was always in the wrong thread. Maybe this one will yield an opinion or two. I've been having a terrible time sleeping on down days. Really terrible --- can't-sleep-at-all-terrible. I have no trouble on Up Days so I know there is a correlation. Is this a common side effect? I take magnesium every evening and tried melatonin for the past week and it hasn't helped so far.

It's bad enough that I'm going to have to up my calories this week on DDs. I can't afford to be exhausted every other day. I'm pretty much at goal so I'm not worried too much about weight gain if I go up to JUDDD maintenance lvel numbers, but I was really hoping to be able to do 5:2 with a couple of really low DDs. I'm thinking that's not in the cards for me. (This is happening with anything below 6-700 calories per day.)

Has anyone else had this problem with DDs? Are there any good strategies to deal with it other than what I'm trying?

I sleep better on DDs. I know some people save calories for right before bed on DDs because they don't sleep well if they're hungry. Have you tried that?

Lcella,
It is not uncommon, and apparently under-reported in the books. I've read that saving some calories for bedtime may help.
If you start a threat, the wise ones will chime in.

No stress, no mess.
I decided to be very flexible today knowing that I have tons of very low calorie options in the house.
So far coffee, water, some more water and 2 slices of 35 cal bread w/ SF jam.
Much better than Saturday when I had a rigid plan.

Pat, what brand is your 35 calorie bread? The lowest I can find is the Sarah Lee bread for 45 calories. I'm always on the lookout for a calorie bargain.

Thanks!!

After two days of UUAD's during our mini vacation, I NEEDED this DD.

Black coffee
Small Wendy's chili
Italian style meatball Progresso lite soup
Water with lemon wedges

Total: 420

I'm doing another DD or MD tomorrow to help make up for this past weekend... I need it.

Hi, pretty lady!,

I have the package here.
It says : Lewis Bakery
Healthy Life
Dieter's Dream
special recipe white bread
High fiber
6 net carbs
35 cal per slice.

this one, to me tastes really good.
Last week I had the Brownberry Brand w/ the same calorie count but didn't find it as delicious.

Being on a fixed (and quite limited) budget I bought it at WalMart.
and BTW
If I EVER win the lottery (I should probably buy a ticket LOL) I swear I will never set foot in WalMart again.
Amen.

Thank you! I was in Wal-Mart on Saturday and looked up and down their bread aisle, but didn't know what I was looking for, so I might have missed it. I'll Google and see if they sell it in my area.

I absolutely agree about Wal-Mart. If I didn't "have" to go there, I NEVER would!!

Well I am looking forward to my DD. Hoping for a sold 5.

DH is off for a smart 'gents' lunch so won't need feeing except for some soup this evening.

I am going to the gym at 1 for a class I enjoy and will allow myself a good cappuccino after that. Otherwise water and soup is the plan for around 300.

Somewhere there is a thread about sleep problems, Lcella. Try hunting, but I think a night time snack is a good idea. Someone has a light chocolate drink I seem to remember. Hope you can get it sorted, sleep is so important.

Trying for a lower DD today. I've been doing around 500-700 calories, so I'm shooting for 250 or so. So far, so good. I may even get crazy and finally try out one of my yoga DVDs tonight--no guarantees though!

Not lunch time yet but I'll go ahead and rate this a 5 so far. My ACV water is doing it's magic and keeping me happy.

I've planned for around 250 calories today, but if I can I'm going to skip the egg and keep it under 200. We shall see! The very low DDs are really paying off for me on the scale right now, so I'm motivated to keep 'em low, low, low.

I should have thought of that before asking about it! I forget about the vast amount of information stored in the historical threads around here.

It turns out there are several threads so this is indeed a fairly common side effect in some people that seems to be related to the stress hormones, particularly cortisol. Interestingly, it seems to hit some people after JUDDDing for a while who are close to or at goal weight, just like me.

There are some recommendations for supplements and I'll look into them. Thanks again.

that would be me! Been JUDDDING for 20 month and have 20 more lbs to go. Past 3 of my low DDs did cause severe insomnia! And you are right about 6-700 ones being no problem!

Today's DD is reasonable, could not keep it as low as I would have liked but I knew I was asking for trouble when I walked 8+ miles instead of the original 4-6 mile plan!
Yam-Yam, Funny thing is I feel good when my tummy roars for I know then that the scale is going to be my friend in the morning!

Bummer, Dawn.
I hate that.
I feel the same way about Trader Joe's. We don't have one and I am so jealous of those that do.
