Rough start to the DD as last night was my first migraine in a long time.

The days are getting longer and can be quite bright. It's difficult to adjust to that when you've migraines that are sensitive to light. So, I didn't realise that when I started having niggling cramps in my legs and my eyes were having trouble focusing that these were warning signs of a migraine - which hit me part way through my weight training at the gym.

Luckily, I was most of the way through my workout and I managed to do some light, cool down lifts to try and control the blood pressure fluctuations and to cool down. However, migraine last night and continuing through to this morning.

I'm grateful that I haven't had one for so long. It's a horrible start to a DD but a good warning that I need to increase my MCT oil for a while until I get used to the longer days, higher elevation of sun etc. I should also play closer attention to little warning signs (of which a major one was that I drank a gallon of water during the night after going to bed on Monday).

Definitely going to be a light DD with plenty of fluids and broth.

Nov 2014 A DXA scan reported very low muscle mass (sarcopenia) so I'm still thinking about how to cope with that. I have some joint surgery to schedule. I may miss questions that people ask me or personals. Apologies if I do, it's not intentional.

Oh my! Poor baby, hope you feel better I was just going to ask if you get early warning signs when I read the info in the next paragraph. Does this mean you get thirsty before the onset? Is there a way to nip it in the bud before it manifests as a migraine? I had a friend who used to have these and she used to get violently sick!

I suffer from positional vertigo from time to time, touch wood, it's been years since the last episode. I always take 1/2 a tablet of anti vertigo medicine at first inkling and keep the bottle handy all the time. If it goes full fledged I am down for a few days. So I can totally empathize!

My yesterday's DD went great! Best ever, calorie control wise, but I haven't been able to sleep! Thank God, I have the luxury of staying at home and sleep as late as I want!

Slow, so sorry you are having a nasty migraine! You've been doing so well controlling them, I'm sure you'll get it back under control soon. Take it easy today and feel better, friend!

JD, congratulations on the great DD! I hope your sleep situation will sort itself out real soon!

DD so far is a 4. I woke up a little hungry and didn't sleep well last night. That's okay though... I'm determined to stay below 350 cals today. I realllly need to see some numbers fall or measurements shrink before the month ends.

Please, what are MDs (mega days?!) and UUADs? I like having SDDD (super-duper down days).

MDs are "Medium Days"

Dr. J recommended them for when you need to change your rotations due to a holiday.

I think the simple formula is to add your DD and UD calories and divide by 2.

For instance, my DD is 400 and my UD is 2000.

2400 divided in half is 1200 so my MD allowance is 1200 calories.

The correct and best order is to do DD/MD/UD (think of low, medium, high or 1-2-3)

It's not lunchtime yet and I'm gonna give this DD a 3 for now.

It's my first DD post vacation. My tummy is rebelling with loud growls and grumbles. But I'm drowning those with tons of water and tea.

Which means I'm off to the little girl's room now.....again.....and again!!!.....

Thank you! I'll need to reread Dr. Johnson's book regarding these strategies. I read it before I actually tried any DDs or UDs, so some of what he said didn't resonate.

Not yet 8pm but i'm crawling off to bed in hopes of sleeping the rest of this off.

I've not felt like eating today (unsurprisingly) so from that viewpoint, OK as a DD but a washout for the rest.

LCG/JD - you're right. I've been doing very well managing the migraines, I've been caught out by the change of light. I reduced the MCT oil to the minimum I needed during the Winter but it looks like I might need more for the next few weeks while I adapt so I'll need to tweak my food to accommodate it (less cheese as I'll need the fat grammes for the oil - bother).

MCT oil helps with your migraines? I get them a lot... I will have to research MCT

Only in the context of a modified ketogenic WOE. Ketogenic diet was originally developed for children with intractable epilepsy - it's also proved useful for migraine and other neurological conditions.

You used to need to eat 90% kcals from fat for a ketogenic diet but because MCT oil more readily yields ketones (the fuel that the diet was intended to produce), then if you supplement with MCT, you can eat more protein than the tiny amount in a true ketogenic WOE and a few more carbs. This is known as a modified ketogenic diet: it's still high-fat (relative to standard recommendations) but moderate protein and relatively low-carb.

Oh, thank you.

I've woken up with the irrefutable post nasal drip, ulcerated throat etc. of one who is about to develop a cold. Bleugh - I rarely get them but it doesn't mean that I'm any more patient with them.

I bet the weather isn't helping either! Hope you feel better!

It's 6:45 PM, my DD is not as easy as the day before yesterday but I am determined to keep it low! I want to see the scale apologize tomorrow It's funny, just the chicken broth (with cumin seeds and bit of chili pepper) seems to stimulate the hunger while black coffee and water kill itIf that's what it takes, so be it!

Feel better Slow!

Yesterday was a decent DD. I was very hungry on my last UD and DD. Partly from being so busy at work and needing the fuel. TOM is also coming so that's probably an indication of hunger. I am looking forward to today though. I just want a bagel.

Thank you again for the good wishes. I'm tucked up in bed with Amazon video stream, paper handkerchiefs, and plenty of fluid. This should be a straightforward DD as I've no appetite at all but I regret that I will have yet another inactive day altho' I realise it can't be helped. I've got too much to do to be laid up like this but if I don't accept my body's decision that it needs to rest while I get rid of this bug, I risk being laid up for longer.

Pretty good DD. I'll give it a 5 as I stuck to my plan. Actually under in calories. I hit 150 after the whey protein and skipped the rest.

I had a great workout at the gym, got most of my laundry done and am tired enough to go to bed early and sleep well.

Dear DD and my 3 grand kids are coming over to spend the day tomorrow. Glad it will be an UD!
