My DD has been 4 for hunger management but a tad lower physically as I'm aching from last night's weight-training.

It's 10pm and I'm having some broth to help me warm up (just now reached home) rather than for hunger.

We picked up the keys for our short-term rental in London so I'm thrilled. I'm already planning which exhibitions I want to see before they close in the next 3 weeks.

I am unusual in never experiencing the DD 'cold'. And very pleased I am too.

Yes! For sure! I'll go check.

My nadir of DD freezes was the day that I had to wrap myself in a survival blanket to continue my bike ride home. They are difficult to push through at times.
You are soooooooo right about Cindy's great UD and enjoying the company of loved ones. More important than anything on the satisfaction scale.

On the freeze, this is only the second day I've experienced it since I've come back to JUDD. I had DH rubbing my feet and we have a big fire in the wood stove to keep me toasty. I broke out my thick winter wool socks and am shuffling around in them now. Keep telling myself the coldness is a good sign that my body is processing some fat. I hope I hope.

I'm not cold (right now), but I have been super hungry today. I just had a bowl of soup for 150, and a sweet potato that I did in the microwave that *was* going to be 208 calories. It ended up being about 30 calories because it turned into a tough piece of leather. I was able to get about 2 small bites before I had to toss it. I knew sweet potatoes did not cook well in the microwave, but was unwilling to wait an hour on the oven...we all know what comes to those who wait.

All in all, I'll get it a 4.

I use Zip n Steam bags to do my sweet potatoes and regular potatoes and, well, almost everything!

I made a sweet potato yesterday and it is oh, so, yum. It was so big I ate half and put the rest in the fridge (left it in the Zip n Steam bag because that works great for reheating, too).

Have you ever tried those? Right on the bag it gives you times for everything. You have to make sure to cook with "this side up/ this side down". I love those bags! I started ordering mine from amazon because I have prime and they are cheaper than in our local grocery store.

So, I was at a 2 this morning but now I can confidently say I'm a 4 for the time being anyway.

It's after 5 and I'm planning on making Tilapia for dinner. I will grill Dh's but might make mine in the zip n steam bag. We'll see.

I'm at 72 calories and if I do the fish and maybe some soup, I'll probably be at 275 all in.

I do them in the micro and they're ok... Maybe you did too long? Or reduce the power a bit?

My dd was a 5.
Got my ptero and caffeine onboard early enough to take effect, and only had a hungry growl at 6:30ish, but I was at the nails place and couldn't act on it. It passed, bc HUNGER IS NOT AN EMERGENCY
And I stopped at the grocery store on hue way home to get veggies!

Closing out this DD as a 4. My tummy never grumbled, but I was thinking about eating a little bit. Not horrible. I've now made it through 7 days of my VLC, no sugar, no alcohol, no soda routine. I can make it through another 8, possibly weigh after my DD on day 19, and proceed from there.

Wow you are doing well with your clean eating plan Carol. I am impressed.

Everyone seems to be managing their DDs really well at present. I love it when the group has a good week or so on DDs.

Iit is so encouraging for Newbies too when they see how well we deal with low calorie eating.

I do sweet potatoes in the microwave and just use the "potato" setting. They turn out fine.

Many DDs I use the steam bags to make tilapia. It always comes out awesome. A 4 oz filet (sometimes 2) and then I put a little salsa on top and it's a fantastic DD dinner.

On my second coffee this morning but only because I'm getting the car serviced and trying to stay away from the cafeteria they have here, they make a delicious breakfast sandwich! Better to use 40 on a coffee than 350 on a breakfast sandwich! Luckily I'm not hungry.

Those bags are horrendously expensive in the UK but they are so useful that they're worth the money for the times that it saves eating some less desirable and it makes it so easy to batch prepare items and keep them in the freezer.

I'll bear that in mind for another night but today's an UD for me and I recently found some Slap Ya Mama Cajun Fish Fry on Amazon UK so that's tonight's dinner. (I had a vague memory that you mentioned the sauce at some point and there was a discussion about whether it was 'Ya Mama' or 'Yo Mama' but there's a reasonable chance that I'm mis-recalling that. )

We went to a Cajun/Creole place for dinner last night. Jambalaya and Cajun wings--sooo good. I use the Tony Chachere's seasoning at home, but see the Slap Ya Mama seasonings and sauces a lot around here. I may have mentioned it.

Yesterday I had a terrible headache and little hunger. The headache must have sapped all of my energy because I fell asleep before 9pm. Falling asleep early does keep the cravings at bay though.

So far it's a 5. Funny, I took doggo for a walk this morning and felt unusually hungry when I got back. Realized two things - yesterday was not an UUAD, and I'd forgotten to take my pterosmack this morning. So I took three and headed out for an hour of snowshoeing. I'm back, feeling excellent, and no hunger.

Later: blew it. Crap. After reading about varying my DD numbers, I ate soup, and then carried on to eat many more things.
Back to liquid DDs which suit me just fine.

My DD is going well so far, and contemplating the day ahead. I do well in the mornings usually, but have never felt comfortable enough with just liquids for the entire day. I *could* do it, but I've never wanted to just ignore the uncomfortable hunger completely. Those of you who do liquid fasts: do you fight through the hunger, or it just completely satisfies you?

Cindy, during my liquid DDs there's a wee bit of hunger that does NOT IN ANY WAY compare to the crazy tsunami that shows up the second I do eat something. That thing has nothing to do with real hunger. It's like it throws me into a parallel universe of compulsive eating.

I eat on DDs altho' broths with shirataki noodles feature heavily in my go-to menu.

May I ask, is hunger triggered by thickened liquids (e.g., with glucomannan or gelatine) or the noodles?

I usually do fine eating a small amount of food on DDs. Usually my hunger is kept in check if I don't eat any carbs (or save them for right before bed).

I really find I'm not all that hungry, physically, anymore. Mine is more just wanting to eat something, and I do battle that. But the physical manifestations either just aren't there, or if they are, I am able to ignore them. And putting anything in my stomach, or maybe just my mouth, even yogurt, makes me want to eat more.

Slow - strangely, during my first round of Juddd, which lasted a good eight months or so, I ate as much volume as I could on DDs. That was my success strategy and it worked. This time, the opposite thing is working.
Re: hunger, no real hunger is triggered, or no real physical hunger. It's just some primitive, crazily urgent, almost dissociative thing that kicks in once I eat something on a DD. (In fact, it also occurs on UDs to some degree, which is why delaying eating is excellent for me.)
I can't comment on thick liquids. Coffee and broth are my standbys. I did use the noodles last time. No draw this time.
I should also say that I'm over my recommended numbers on almost every UD, so that not eating on DDs feels easy. When I adhered to UD numbers last time, I was hungry every day, and it made Juddd an all consuming act of will. I lost weight - loved that part - but underneath I was not as relaxed as I wanted to be. A pendulum swing of opposite energy was being created, and at some point I couldn't face another DD. (When people talk about set points, I can identify, because it felt as though I was fighting something that was fighting back.)

I suppose I'm trying to ease myself back into it this time by loving what comes easily right now (rotations, liquid DDs), nudging my UDs in the right direction, eating healthy food for the most part, letting unsuccessful days go, and making use of adjuncts like pterosmack.
I've been whacked around the subject of food and body image for my entire life, and so, so don't want Juddd to become another roller coaster ride that delays real recovery, whatever real recovery means.

I want to do this in a way that feels like relaxed progress and not like suffering or struggle.

Apologies for the long-windedness.

Joy-Joy: Love what you said, "I suppose I'm trying to ease myself back into it this time by loving what comes easily right now (rotations, liquid DDs), nudging my UDs in the right direction, eating healthy food for the most part, letting unsuccessful days go, and making use of adjuncts like pterosmack.

Great stuff! I'm choosing to decide there is no such think as an unsuccessful day and it's working for me so far.

Dr. J's calculator gave me what I think is really high for UDs. Over 2000 calories and the calorie counter I downloaded on my Kindle gives me a couple hundred more than that! I try to stay at or under 1800 on UDs, but strangely, the "knowledge" or maybe perception that I can go all the way to 2200 gives me some comfort that I'm not having an unsuccessful UUAD until I'm over that, which has not happened so far.

Last time I did JUDD, about a year ago, I never really relaxed on UDs and was still always trying to do some LCing or restrict fats or go way below my UD limit. I kept tweaking. This time I'm enjoying and relaxing instead of tweaking.

The extra nourishment and enjoyment on UDs seems to be flowing into the DDs in a way that is helping me get through them without much suffering.

My recent DDs have been in the 200-300 range. But there, too, I've giving myself permission to go all the way to 800 and still call it a DD. Or, I'm allowed to throw a MD of 1000 in anywhere if I need it.

So far so good. About a 4. But it's still early!

Surprisingly I'm not hungry after a really enjoyable carby and filling UD yesterday. Sometimes a carby UD means a hungry DD. So far, I'm good.
