There's yet another research study that was released ahead of publication date this week and, in essence, it confirms the importance of just what you've done - planning. Planning shopping lists and menus with a particular goal in mind (e.g., eating more fruit and vegetables, weightless) and pre-preparing excuses so that you can reduce the awkwardness of refusing colleagues' work treats etc.
Quote:
Planning was particularly helpful in unexpected situations, such as when offered cakes at work to celebrate a colleague’s birthday. Knowing what to say in advance made avoiding temptation much easier.
Miss Godinho said: ‘We found that having strategies in place to deal with a range of eating situations that could undermine good intentions is very important, and helps people to regulate their daily dietary choices.
‘Planning menus or taking fruit to the workplace are examples of strategies some people use.
‘Planning is a psychological process that helps people to make the right choices for them.’
My one difficulty is that although this is realistic, as is all too often said here, why (apart from politeness) do we have to make excuses. Why can't we just say, 'No, thank you' without it being a thing?

My hubby always says " Are you on or are you off'??

Good DD yesterday, a bit of a white knuckle-r but I made it at around 600. Birthday cake the night before (not mine) I think made a very hard day for me. I woke up hungry and finished hungry....

I'm with u Blonde... it was a tough DD yesterday due to my choices on my UD but I held out and stayed at my 300 calories. I gave in to early bedtime just to quiet my hungry monster!

for both of us!

My hubby says - R U eating today? DUH, I EAT every day - sometimes just not so much.

My granddaughters, who spend a lot of time with me - say - is it a little or a lot day? I stress my health benefits to them though - not my weight. Especially I tell them it keeps me young and free from my sore arthritic thumb!!

I'm quite taken with the notion of a 'negative talk demon' on one shoulder and a 'good JUDDD angel' on the other.

I'm now fondly imagining the best outfits for the demon and angel. Yes, the cold symptoms, fever and cough are still with me, how could you tell.

DD saturday

I'm keeping tight hold of the reins today, this DD will not get away from me, partly because I want to enjoy a nice dinner tomorrow and partly because it only takes a couple of runaway DD's to make me feel awful and like I'm starting over.

I've had around 300 calories so far and if I finish under 600 I'll be happy. Still I'm shooting for under 500.

The Holiday stress is getting to me badly. I should just go to bed.....

Mine has been awful as I have a killer migraine due to the weather changes and feel so nauseated. I finally decided to eat a little bowl of veggie soup to see if I would feel better. Calories are fine but my head isn't. Only had 250 calories so far and it is dark so I should be good for the day.

I hit 560 calories today. And I'm still hungry. Bummer. I made stroganoff for DH and I really wanted to dive into those yummy noodles and sauce. But I did not. I'm going to drink lots of water and try to go to bed super early tonight. Wish me luck!!!! Maybe DH will be nice and put the leftovers away so I don't have to look at them again!

Gosh Adi, I'm so sorry that migraine hit you like that. Take care and I sure hope you'll feel better in the morning.

It's been a stellar DD here. I think maybe my lowest one ever, at 160. I know that's not as low as some do, but for me, it's quite an accomplishment. I never felt at all unhappy all day either. At some point I may even try a 0 calorie DD. In actuality, it won't be 0, because I'll have black coffee or tea, or bouillon broth, which does have a few calories, but I never count them!

Sorry about that migraine Adi, hope you feel better now.

Great number Carol, good work.

Well that wine did me no harm as I saw 126 on the scale yesterday, on the scale that weighs me heavy too. Lol, I am still not recommending that route though.

Planning a great DD today. The last for a while I expect.

Today went ok. I just had some wine. I know I shouldn't have. Had some tuna and Zuchinni noodles. Lunch was a small piece of meatza. Not a bad day. I know this week is going to be bad with Christmas Eve with the family and Christmas Day brunch and later dinner at my friends house. Ugh.

Adi, I hate Mr. Migraine, time-thief, and hope he never visits you again.

Monday DD update: I was really scared that I did myself in yesterday by indulging in pizza and cake (1 piece each). Maybe I should have known something was different, and relaxed a little, when I felt really full and wasn't tempted to binge on either. But contrary to my fears, today feels like a normal DD. Had 1 coffee with HWC before school drop-off, and now green tea (it's around noon), and I'm totally fine. Plan on fasting with more tea until some kefir late this evening.

I don't plan on making a habit of that (it was dd's 9th birthday and the cake was a really, really good one), but it's a real relief to know it's not going to derail me.

Thanks, JUDDD!

It sounds to me like you consumed considerably less than 60% of what would be a maintenance number of kcals for the day, so, today was actually a pretty good day from the perspective of someone following the JUDDD programme. See I believe I had an epiphany for discussion of this, I think I mentioned it December Daily Chat )

And, it sounds like you're going to have some delightful time with family and friends over the next few days. Yes, being faced with food that you may need to refuse or down-portion is a tricky prospect and you may need some 'excuses' pre-prepared but it sounds like a good opportunity to spend time with those whom you love and those who love you. If so, enjoy it, and don't be apprehensive about what are only the trimmings. (Far easier said than done.)

Struggling a bit today because I over did it on sugar last night (one piece of chocolate covered toffee turned into five!). Took 150 mg of ptero but still feel hungry. So far I've just had coffee w/h&h and water. Will do some hot tea and try to hold off eating anything until after 2:00pm. Food today is a small Wendy's chili and later some Greek yogurt.

Meh, I'm being a bit of a snappy baggage but that's little to do with it being DD and more to do with this cold still hanging on, DH still being unwell, being behind on holiday preparations as a consequence and needing to dash round battening down the hatches for the rain and predicated 80mph winds.

Whine, whine.

Made the mistake of going to the grocery store at lunch today to get some cream of tarter to make chocolate meringues and they were having samples!!!
At least they are tiny little samples but i had a little piece of brie, a piece of ham on little cracker, tiny bit of cream cheese pesto, and a bite of apple pie!!!
There goes about 200 calories probably!!!
Hopefully i can keep from eating the rest of the day but this will probably start my hunger monster!!!
I have tuna just in case!!
