My DD is almost derailed. I don't know what got into me, but after "deciding" to have a protein bar for lunch, instead of just coffee, I then proceeded to eat a big mouthful of turkey. I went to the lounge (at work) to get some of the turkey left over from yesterday's xmas lunch, and had in mind to have it on a salad for dinner...next thing I knew it was in my mouth. Damn.

Probably still going to have something small for dinner lol. Better than a UD anyway!

It can't be all that much damage Cindy. Turkey is so low cal. No harm, no foul.

My DD was Friday, and though I went a little higher than I intended, I still ended up under 400, even counting the EVCO:
daytime: 2 coffees with cream and EVCO (1 tsp. each), tea, water
dinner: 1/2 3 oz salmon fillet, 3/4 cup of steamed cauliflower, 3/4 oz spanish goat cheese (yes, I weighed it)
1/2 tsp dutch cocoa with SF vanilla in hot water--skinny cocoa--after dinner

That hour before dinner is a killer, though. Walking the dog in the cold helped.

I munched a little at my friend's party last night, but had several glasses of wine, and one more after I got home. I don't feel like I really had dinner last night - which I really didn't. So I hope that doesn't make me extra hungry today.

So far pretty good. I'm sipping on hot tea as I sit out in my garage overseeing my garage sale. I was hoping I'd be real busy, selling lots of stuff. But so far it is dead and B-O-R-I-N-G. Maybe the traffic will pick up once it's a little warmer out.

Boy, I'm having a rough time on these down days. Some of it is just mental because my weight has been going up rather than down and that shakes my willpower. But I'm honestly not used to being so hungry. I haven't had these intrusive thoughts of food since before I started low carb eating many years ago so it's kind of a shock. But I am determined to keep going for at least the rest of this month.

It's physically impossible for me to be gaining any real fat on these calories so I know it has to be water retention. Maybe the intense hunger has just stunned my body into holding on to it? I don't know.

Anyway, I'm just getting through the down days by hook or crook. Luckily it's raining outside today so I'm going to put up my Christmas tree, drink sugar cookie sleigh ride tea with SF Torani and hopefully relax a little bit.

So far, I'm having about a 2 on a scale of 1-5.

Just ate two rice cakes not because I was hungry, but I could feel my head going a little wonky and I didn't want to end up with a headache. This has been a pretty good DD. Hoping to end it on a high note.

WOE: Thinking of trying NK
So far, I've just have had two coffees with 1 tsp coconut oil and 1 packet of yoohoo chocolate powder in each. Plus water. For dinner I'm planning on a small salad and a turkey breast sandwich. This is such a departure from my first attempt at JUDDD - back then, I was determined to stuff myself to the brim with low-cal veggies etc. all day long since I've always been somewhat fearful of feeling hungry. This time around, I did a lot of reading before jumping back in and really was impressed by the stories of those who do the super-low cal DDs, and who postpone eating until later in the day. Also, I'm staying LC which does seem to help a lot in the hunger department. So far, this round is going way better for me!

I'm so sorry you're struggling. You're right, there's no way you are gaining fat. Have you double checked your calories? If you wouldn't mind posting your stats, maybe we can double check for you. I'd hate for you to be working with the wrong set of numbers and getting frustrated!

My garage sale was a bust. I made $28 in 5 hours. The good news is, after lugging the stuff out into the driveway, carefully marking prices and doing a bit of merchandising/placement, sitting there in the cold for 5 hours, lugging it all back in - it's now 2:00 pm and all I've had all day is mint tea - no calories!

So for DD, it's a 5! I'm not all that hungry, but I think I'll have either a Chobani or a coffee/HWC in just a bit. Maybe I can have one of those super low calorie DDs!

My DD plan for today (Sunday) included a protein meal in the middle of the day as recommended by Krista Varady: 3 oz of roasted chicken breast (whole roasted chicken with lemon, sea salt, fresh rosemary, thyme and 40 cloves of garlic, scrumptious), nice and juicy. Unfortunately I helped myself to vegetables as well--1 cup of curried celery root soup, 1/2 cup of sprouts, and while this is still under the 400 cal goal, I wonder if it's going to make me hungrier in the evening.

I have a few cals saved up for a coconut-oil decaf before bed. Tomorrow is weigh-in day and I hope I don't regret not going super low today...

Did I mention I'm baking tollhouse cookies for my dear daughters' school parties tomorrow? The whole house smells of them, and I haven't had a one. I'm using the de-conditioning methods suggested on Todd Becker's "Getting Stronger" blog--exposing yourself, drinking in aromas deeply, handling the food, and then not eating it, acknowleging that you have the power, and then rewarding yourself with another pleasurable activity. It's working pretty well for now!

To clarify: we don't actually EAT the garlic, just let it perfurme the chicken...although that's not to say I've not been tempted at times...chicken fat, yum. Thanks for the calorie count!

I decided to spend the calories from the EVCO on copious amounts of leek broth and some boiled leeks, instead.

Thanks so much for your concern.

I'm going on the JUDD calculator "20%/no exercise" formula which comes out to 306/1532. I think I've stuck to it pretty well all things considered. I also eat low carb and haven't changed that. I think my problem is related to salt. I was drinking several cups a day of broth to keep the hungries at bay and I think I ended up with more than I'm used to.

These are my numbers since the 1st:

12/1 132.6 DD -- 340
12/2 133.4 UD -- (not a great start. It must be the soy sauce ??) 1530
12/2 134.0 DD -- (not used to bouncing up like this .. eek.) 340
12/3 134.2 UD -- 1620
12/4 135.4 DD -- 455
12/5 135.4 UD -- 1550
12/6 136.0 DD --370
12/7 135.8 UD -- 1580
12/8 136.0 DD --

It's not the end of the world. It's just a few pounds of what I know is water weight. I don't usually panic at a few pounds up or down --- it's perfectly normal, especially when you make a change in diet. I think I'm just having a rough time adjusting to eating those low calories.

If this keeps up another week I think I might try raising my down days to 600 or so and seeing if that makes a difference. There's no reason for me to be super ambitious about this and it's possible that I'm stressing myself out for nothing.

Anyway, today's another down day and so far I'm doing ok. But the day is young ...

Thanks again for your input.

DD6. Really great so far. I'm glad to be not weighing. I think the up and down of that might derail me a bit. I'd rather just be happy in my pants.
Interesting to hear the Todd Becker stuff.
I'm baking sweet stuff like crazy over the last two days. No idea why. I think it has something to do with juddding and Christmas. Anyway, I have zero desire to eat it on my down day, which is crazy, because I'm an addict, no question, when it comes to sugar. It's as though the smell of it and the handling of it are enough to fill me.
I'll look up this Todd guy. Thanks.
Today's plan: bit of broth, a couple of hard boiled eggs later today. Happy body, happy head. Feeling fortunate.

Locarbarella, I think you might be onto something, raising your DD calories a bit. I did something similar - a maintenance break - and started to lose again after I had stalled and had a definite case of diet fatigue. I hope this works for you!

I'm so glad you're feeling great on JUDDD again! Makes me happy.

Your baking sounds so good. And your control is wonderful! I'll be making my annual rumballs next week, and probably some gingerbread cookies. I also make a cake each year in a Christmas Tree shaped pan and color it green and green frosting too. Sprinkles, candies, the works. It's simple and very far from gourmet, but it's become a tradition and so we have to have it!

DD going pretty well. but i am coming into the witching hours..... 6-10pm is a tough time frame for me. did things a bit differently today and it made me feel good. more protein and less munching on little things thru the day. seems to be working.

just to get thru the next 4 hours without blowing it....

Morning Juddd Buds!!

I'm changing my up rotations this week to M-W-F for the Christmas 'event'. My hope is to de-stress somewhat and simply not gain any Holiday weight. I've have found that having my main DD meal at lunchtime is really helpful. The biggest issue was feeling starved by 3 pm and having to wait to have dinner. I don't eat with DH on DD's, but I sip tea or broth and feel good with that.

On a yuck note...I'm showing a slight gain, I'm sure it's temporary but it is a bit demoralizing...I don't weigh everyday, only every week or so.

Blonde, I admire your being able to eat your cals at lunch and then not have any dinner. I've never tried that, mainly because I think my head really wants to eat dinner. I guess I should try it sometime.

The problem with weighing only once in a while (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, whatever) is that, as we all know, we do have anomalies every now and then where we go up a couple of pounds for no obvious reason. If that happens to be the one day we weigh, it makes it look like we're not making progress, and even gaining. Anything to do with the scale is so hard, because we can be so swayed by that darn number! I'm sure you're doing just fine, and next week you'll see the numbers back down.

I've had a 100 calorie Chobani already this morning, which is really unusual for me. I've been doing this Tabata or Sprint 8 HIIT workout EOD on my DD mornings. It's supposed to be great for getting human growth hormone going which helps build muscle tissue. They recommend eating protein within 30 minutes of the workout to support the muscle building. I haven't been doing that, but decided it was worth trying. I'm kind of afraid to use up 100 calories this early, because I'm not typically even hungry in the morning, but I am later in the day. If this doesn't work, I may need to switch these workouts to my UD mornings so I don't have to worry about the calories I'm using early in the day. Rambling.....
