The worst way to lose 4.5 pounds...

Juddd buds... this is me----> :stars: after a day and a half on the potato hack. I lost 4.5 in 40 hours, but I feel like death warmed over...

I can barely type :stars::stars::stars:

I'm gonna eat some food if I can choke it down. Yeah, 4.5 pounds in 40 hours is nice, but... :stars: and almost

I guess I can say I tried it...:stars::stars::stars:

krazy cat 04-16-2013 03:35 PM

Awww Carly :console:

Hope you're feeling better soon! But WTG on the weight loss--awesome!

I'm only 2 months into JUDDD and was thinking about trying the potato hack myself--but now maybe I'll hold off! :)

lisamt 04-16-2013 03:39 PM

Yikes, it sounds like the potato hack is not for you! I hope you are feeling better soon.

mom23kids 04-16-2013 03:47 PM

Wow, that's sucky :( I've done three days in a row with the potato hack and have had no icky feelings with it :dunno: Hope you feel better soon, congrats on the loss!

Best wishes for a rapid recovery.

It's interesting that so many of us report gut issues/nausea etc with potato - I wish I understood why. :dunno: I had to introduce rice to my potato hack or I'd never have been able to continue it for 28 days.

angie1 04-16-2013 03:51 PM

oh wow! Definitely does not agree with you.. feel better!!

Librarygirl 04-16-2013 04:06 PM

I couldn't do the PH either. However, congrats on the quick loss!! Now for some meat! ;)

leonak 04-16-2013 04:07 PM

Hope you are feeling better real soon!

I wonder what could of happened? Green potatoes can make one sick. I have heard that some potatoes have too much fertilizer in them and I also remember a relative that had some that tasted like fish - turned out they used dead fish for fertilizer one year! I wish you all the best and pray you feel better soon.

Now I will have to "re-think" doing the potato hack!

Take care of yourself! :hugs:

LiLi914 04-16-2013 04:25 PM

Hope you're feeling better and you were able to rest. I was thinking about starting the potato hack but something always stops me. Think I'll stay away.

Carly 04-16-2013 04:29 PM

I had a slice of pizza and I'm 100% better.
Yikes! I guess a strict potatoe diet is not for me!
DW didn't feel well either. She felt better after a slice of pizza too.

KeirasMom 04-16-2013 04:29 PM

I did a potato DD and didn't really enjoy it. Sadly, your horrible experience has nearly convinced me to do the hack next week, leading into my vow renewal. I could stand to be sick for a few days to lose 4 pounds by then. ;)

Yennie 04-16-2013 04:33 PM

I'm sorry it upset your tummy. Funny, I didn't have any real GI problems like some people when I did my 7 day hack. I also didn't lose that fast either - I wonder if rate of loss on the hack has to do with how it makes you feel?
Like SS, I had to add in rice to make it through multiple days.

haha, me too :o

I would love to lose 4 pounds in 40 hours! I am sure being sick does not seem worth it afterward though! So sorry you weren't well!

Ugh, I don't think I'll ever do that again. It was like the migraine from you know where... With a pizza cure.

Wow, 28 days! How much weight did you end up losing? Did you regain some of it when you transitioned to normal food again?

I lost 5lbs doing the hack for three days with no side effects- I actually enjoy doing it and might be changing my dds to potato days :) Really just depends on each person, how it works/affects them.

kh155 04-16-2013 04:40 PM

Oh dear!

Did you eat the skins, Carly? I think I've read on these boards somewhere that eating the skins can cause this reaction. If not, then taters & only taters is just not for you.
Now, taters with a pizza chaser sounds YUM!

The loss IS nice though. Wow!

I've read negatives about the skins too so I peel all my potatoes.

LoCarbGal 04-16-2013 04:44 PM

Nice loss, but hardly worth it! Yuck! Sorry you had that reaction. It'll be interesting to see if the 4 pounds stay away. Back to 5:2 for you is it?

Carly 04-16-2013 04:56 PM

Yes, back to 5:2. That was just to get rid of the Florida bloat and that it did, but I suspect 2 DDs would have done the same thing. (Not in a row of course).

Yes, Monday and Wednesday are my DDs, so I will have a peaceful, bissful, DD and all will be right with the world.

gotsomeold 04-16-2013 05:02 PM

I tried the hack for one day. Horribly ill the next day. Tried one meal a day for awhile. Loved the simplicity but, again and sporadically I got horribly ill.

I finally figured out the pattern...it is called hypoglycemia and, for me, it means potatoes with nothing or just a little bit of something else lead to disaster.

Nope, no doctor has ever considered me diabetic...but I know I had and must still have a very broken carb processor.

For me, potatoes are great...when eaten with other food.

Ugh, just the though of more plain potatoes (well boiled in FF broth)... Gag.

Flossyliz 04-16-2013 05:21 PM

I did a couple of potato DDs and my stomach felt "wrong" somehow. Not unbearable but definitely wrong. I normally have a cast-iron stomach. Potatoes are nightshades, that could be the problem in quantity. The weight loss wasn't worth it to me. Some people seem to thrive on it though.

It could be some sort of detox thing. I once tried a brown rice fast - you eat nothing but brown rice for three days, very good for the liver. It's so cleansing that half way through the second day, I developed such a detox headache I had to stop.

I'm glad the pizza fixed you!

Carly 04-16-2013 05:26 PM

It almost felt like a detox reaction. I'll keep vacation bloat and extra day or 2 next time. One day was fine, but by lunch time today :stars:

Whitlin' 04-16-2013 06:54 PM

I was fine with it but it was only on DDs. I've done it two different days only. I guess because I spaced it with variety supper before, variety breakfast after, it didn't bother me. I will say that I was bored, like I had nothing to look forward to. Although it made for good rotations, it was not so much more successful than some other DD menus I have come up with. So I figured, why not have the variety.

I did actually enjoy a DD I did later in which I ate mini-meals, but snacked on cold fingerling potatoes in between. They were an ideal snack that took the hunger away fast and added very little calories. Also nutritious. If I could only have one veggie finger-food ready in my fridge, I might choose those little fingerling potatoes.

Glad you feel better, Carly.

The significance of the PH for me was that it broke a 5 week stall at 150lbs. It demonstrated that I could do something that would affect my scale weight rather than treading water and becoming increasingly demotivated.

My scale weight loss was 10lbs. By some people's standards that's unimpressive, by my standards it was a very good, welcome drop, and the most substantial that I've ever achieved over such a time period.

I'm transitioning to a leptin reset diet within a JUDDD framework (so, high protein breakfast, <35g carbs a day, within my JUDDD calorie counts) which is near as I get to 'normal' food at present. I haven't regained any of that 10lbs. Women don't really drop for the first few weeks of a leptin reset (and I'm not truly following it yet) so my subsequent losses have been glycogen and water.

I should also mention that up until the first few days of the PH, I was cycling 40-70km approx. 6 days a week (I've done this for several years). I had to stop that and I haven't resumed it since (you're advised against endurance cardio during a leptin reset). So, I lost that weight despite losing a substantial calorie expenditure - albeit one that hadn't helped me lose during the stall. :)

zipp2play 04-17-2013 05:57 AM

WOW no fun girl! I know I wouldn't do well on potatoes. The blood sugar issues alone would do me in. Feeling that way would NOT be worth any loss, plus, pounds like that tend to come back on immediately once a person actually eats! Sorry for the bad experience. I love that on JUDDD I can lose, eat and feel good!

lc-chica 04-17-2013 06:43 AM

WOW. A migraine? I am thinking twice about this.

So weird that many people have such bad reactions, that would be my luck too I'm sure. What to do what to do.

Carly 04-17-2013 02:24 PM

100% fine today and had a beautiful DD. I think the 4 pounds will stay away since they were just vacation bloat anyway. On Juddd I found it was easy enough to lose the vacation weight with 2 good rotations... Ah, live and learn.

mojocat 04-17-2013 02:30 PM

I did a potato hack after Christmas and I also got severe Hypo similar to Sunday. I was shaky, lightheaded and had a rapid heart beat. The next day the binge eating monster made it's appearance in it's full misery. Never again for me.

Yes, I had a very rapid/racing heart beat. I felt shaky, queasy and dizzy. I ate the pizza and felt better in less than 5 minutes. I never had a hypo reaction other than taking diabetic medication and then not eating soon enough.
