The Truth About Exercise?

Who watched it? Poor Michael looked so bummed when he found out he was a non-responder!

I don't need genetic testing to know that I always get a response from exercise...I've just been too sedentary for so long...actually more like sedimentary. But I can still deadlift an 95lb kid from the floor and carry her up a flight of stairs...I'm wheezing when i get up there, but I can do it.

I've been reading about high-intensity training, sounds like the way to go for me, i've never been able to stick with boring exercise

It is so anti-intuitive, but then so is the celebrated potato hack...I guess HIT would be an exercise hack?

Here's hoping for some judddenergy to get off my bum...

What did you think?

I didn't see this, but it sounds interesting! How did he find out he was a "non responder"?

(PS: from one smiley lover to another, love yours!)

Melinda,

They did a blood test for i think 11 genetic predictors, and he scored at the bottom of the scale (they didn't tell him, though) then did the treadmill/oxygen use testing before and after a period of training, and he showed no improvement.

If you can't catch it on TV, it's on the PBS website.

I was smiley-hunting last night at work...rough job, but someone's gotta do it

LOL!!! Smiley hunting, I am getting tired of mine, too. Might have to join you sometime!

I will check out the special! Probably not today (everyone home) but maybe tomorrow. Sounds interesting! TFS!

I like your little bird, too...funny how they say someone "eats like a bird"...birds eat anything they can find, all the time! They just expend a lot more energy in the process!

When I get bored with my apple avatar I have some good chicken and peacock ones in mind...i'll save the peas til i feel like showing off!

I haven't watched it yet, but I have it on my DVR! I'll hope to get to it this week.

I have always been a fan of HITT workouts - I do the ones on youtube. I find that they are maximum 20 minutes long and very very effective! You see results within a couple of weeks and they are definitely not boring. I did denise austins ultimate fat burn today:
It incorporates short bursts of high intensity and I like her cheerful attitude (it can get annoying though)

Watched it last night. I really enjoyed it. It made me determine to move more today throughout the day, which I did. I was on my feel every hour (almost) and 4 times I walked in place for 5 minutes. It felt good to stretch and move about. I'm going to try to make this a habit!
