My initial goal was to be 165, wear size 10 jeans, and fit comfortably in 2 size 12 dresses. Today I weigh 186 lbs, wear some size 12 jeans comfortably, others are still too tight...and I haven't tried on those dresses since taking the pictures. I don't think I will make the weight goal or the jean goal (though it could happen) and I think I will make my dress goal at least! I can't believe we have just a little over a month left until July 4th! Time sure does fly!

It's really weird how people can wear such different sizes at the same weights or, smaller sizes at higher weight than others. I am so jealous of those of you who can wear 12s on the lower half. I have wide hips and won't fit into a 12 comfortably for another 10-15 lbs, probably. I was wearing size 10 jeans at 135 lbs! At 120-125 I can wear size 8.

So happy to see so many chugging along towards their July 4th goal!! High Five Everyone! for hanging in there.

I saw a new low of 175.5 today - so I am hopeful I will achieve my goal of out of the 170s by the 4th. Even if I bounce below in June, I will claim a victory!

depends on one's shape for sure. I'm 5'6" but I have no hips or butt, girls average - rather the straight up and down look. Which makes for a thick middle (dare I say "apple" shape). My size 14s are getting loose now at 175.5. I try to stay away from feeling I am a "size" though, rather I like to think healthy weight - whatever size. Sometimes it works, and sometimes not so much.

You're so right Cindy. I'm a pear shape too, and I tend to think of goals in terms of pants/jeans sizes, since that's the part of me I'm typically most unhappy with.

Right now I've got a bunch of tops that I've only worn maybe 5 to 10 times each and they now look big and boxy on me. I'm going to take them over to Mom's and she's going to (attempt to) show me how to take them in on her sewing machine. Somehow, while I realize what a victory that is, I tend to agonize over the fact that I'm not in the smaller jeans I wanted to be in yet. All it means is that I'm at the stage in my losses where, instead of being really fat all over, my real body shape is emerging, and I am going to start seeing that as a major victory instead of a frustration.

Let's not forget how crazy sizing has gotten either. I have some size 12 skinny jeans that are just a tiny bit too big, probably a 10 would fit well. But my Levi's are size 6. I "choose" to believe Levi's are more standard sizing, but who knows? I can also get into 6 in a couple of other brands, but not all. I hover around 155 and at 5'9" that's fairly thin, but definitely not "skinny."

In tops, I wear M blouses, but t-shirts are often L or even XL. It's pretty ridiculous.

I know what you're saying. I'm not trying to be a certain size either, but I know I look more "normal" in a size 12 or 10, than I do in an 18W, and obviously at a more healthy weight too. If that size were arbitrarily some other demonination and I was still the same weight, then it wouldn't matter.

Goner, I'm hoping you get a whoosh soon.

Cindy, I don't have such an ample lower half, so hips are seldom my problem in clothes, but my measurement at tummy keeps clothes from fitting as well. I've often thought of trying to find a good alterations person. We are 3-dimensional beings, and just the tape measure doesn't tell the story.

I can't find where I updated at mid-month, so maybe I didn't.

Excuses:

May was a hard month in some ways. Twice we had houseguests, which is unusual. Truly needed to get the garden in, so I had to substitute gardening for more formal inch-loss exercise many times. So I would get really tired, but the percentage of the kind of activity that trims inches was less.

Still...

In the month of May, I lost 1/4-inch at both waist and abdomen ( and also lost 1/4-inch at ribcage and hip, so that's showing me that I'm losing evenly ). I'd like to have lost more at waist and abdomen, which is my goal for this challenge, but since I lost 1/2 inch at abs during those last 2 weeks of April, I'm happy.

So, my running total so far for my personal waist/abs challenge from mid April until July 4 is (drumroll) 3/4-inch off abs and 1/4-inch off waist. As Christina says, yay for a tinier tummy.

Like a lot of you, I wish I was firmer. But I'm consistently getting a little firmer than I was, so how can I help but be pleased.

Let's see, we have one more full month and a few days - 5 weeks. There is SO MUCH we can do in 5 weeks!

Yeah those vanity sizes are pretty annoying in my opinion! I wish instead of sizes, it was just the actual inches on clothing...kind of like men's clothing

I have to say that I'm a terrible measurer. I don't know if I ever really measure myself the same way each time. Like in the same spot on a given body part and holding the tape measure at the same "tightness". I tried measuring my arms last night but depending how and where I measure it's different, but I'll say for now no real loss of inchage I have to buckle down for sure and get on a regular schedule with my toning.

I'm biting the bullet and going back to WLM, but at a higher percentage. My stomach has felt huge the last few days (though much of that is probably the 8000 pieces of heavily buttered bread I had on Saturday!). Anyway, I need this pooch to be gone. and we're only a month away from Independence Day!

Nice to meet you, MrsAndi

measuring - exercise programs often give instructions on measuring the torso accurately. In T-Tapp, you always measure in the same taut stance. ( feet hip-width apart, knees bent, rear tucked, shoulders pulled back and down, knees pushed out toward little toes.) If it wasn't for that stance getting my midsection to be still I don't think I could trust my measuring as much as I do. My posture would affect the tape.

I bought my new(well, used from the thrift store) jeans in a smaller size(16!). They feel great! I am coming off a non-regulation weekend, so I'm not certain of my numbers, but I think I will make my goal of 179 by Independence Day. I was 182 this morning, after my Down Day.

I think I worry to much about size..I am an apple shape which is the worst shape in terms of where your fat is deposited. As hard as I try I lose 5 lbs and the next day it is back. Please be happy if your fat is in a healthier place as it will come off and your organs will stay healthier. Mine seems to stick with me no matter what.I am excersising and am ready to quit the taxing workout and just walk and see how that works. I am in menopause and I find that nothing works...no metabolism at all! I really don't think that I am alone only frusterated.. I am hoping for a smaller number also by the 4th..just hoping

I sympathize with another apple shape. I know how unhealthy it is to carry the weight around my vital organs. I'm sorry you are not seeing a loss on the scales. I am post-menopause and found my weight shifted on my body and I feel my mid section got bigger, however I am finding JUDDD to have flattened it some. In addition, I really try to avoid wheat, especially during my day meals. If I indulge it's with dinner only, and then only a time or two a week. I truly believe it's what type of foods we eat, in addition to how much - that gives that menopause middle. I too join you in hoping you find a way to see a smaller number by the 4th. Perhaps some tweaking?? I have no ideas myself, but know that if I stall or stop losing, I will be looking for advice from this wonderful bunch of Judd Budds!

I bought a size Large blouse at the flea market last weekend and I can't get it past my head!!! I have a pretty small upper body, especially for my size (now), and was astounded that I couldn't even pull it down past my shoulders. It is not a junior size either, but it has no stretch or give at all. Wondering if I could ever wear it. Wth, lol!

What happened to your avi pic? I saw you there earlier? Sizes are funny- especially at flea markets. I always say that stuff is all here (at the flea market) because it's not all there

LOL! I do love a bargain though. I hope my 5.00 wasn't wasted!

My avi pic looked silly. I don't know how to crop it and save it. I tried and it wouldn't accept it on this site. Bleh. Maybe I'll take another one soon and put it on.

Sizing

I typically wear size 6 bottoms, with a few size 4s and size 8s fitting similarly. However, I have an old pair of white pants, that I love, that are a size 12! Don't know if they were mis-sized or ???

I've found that end-of-season clearance racks contain a lot of mis-sized pieces - if you like to save money, try on some "wrong" sizes.

My very-slim daughter, who is 5' even and weighs about 100# went into a dress shop in Paris, the clerk told her to quit looking at the smalls and try on the mediums - after my daughter got over being insulted she did that and found that she fit nicely into a medium sundress! Here in the States, she wears 0 , 00, XS, etc. and when we were there last summer, the Parisian women didn't look any different from the American women - they were big, small, and everything in-between ...
