Looking for your fave glucomannan drink recipes...

Well I finally got brave and bought some glucomannan. I say brave, because I simply cannot handle the miracle rice type products due to the texture. Not sure what to expect with glucomannan, but I am going to give it a whirl.

I know I have seen lots of recipes here and there throughout the forum, but hoping not to scour all of the threads to find them....

So girls, I am looking for your fave drink recipes. I do have a Ninja that I love, and it whips up some fab smoothies...now looking for some filling DD recipes to keep me going a good portion of the day. Thanks so much!!

Not a drink recipe, exactly, but I like to add a little gluc to broth or miso to make it more filling.

I'm not feeling so great so I can't give you the calorie counts on everything, but I'll give you the ingredients.

Pure pumpkin purée about 1-2 T
1/2 cup almond breeze unsweetened vanilla
2-3 squirts of sf davinci toasted Marshmellow of flavor of choice
Cinnamon
Pumpkin pie spice
4-5 ice cubes
Walden farms 0 calorie pancake syrup 2T
2-3 drops ez-sweetz
1/4 t gluc powder

Blend in ninja for a minute

Whole thing is less than 50 calories

Thanks girls....I am really not familiar with this product, how much should I add per cup of broth?

Is is supposed to thicken up?

Carly, thanks so much, and with you in recovery phase too. You are so sweet. Sending warm positive thoughts your way for quick healing, and for your DW as well.

I used it to thicken my DD broth soup tonight.

2 cups progresso chicken broth
3/4 cup water
3/4 teaspoon gluc powder
1 cup shredded napa
4 mini carrots
5 water chestnuts, cubed
parsley, basil, salt, pepper, hot pepper flakes, powdered garlic

I put the cold chicken broth straight from the box into the blender. Added the gluc powder and gave it a good whirl.

Poured the broth into a saucepan, added other ingredients and brought it to a boil. Added water to desired consistency.

Tasty, filling and the whole pot was about 85 calories. The thickened broth took away the "diet soup" feel, and I was pleased enough with the results to decide to hunt for turkey broth so that I can make an attempt at turkey gravy with it.

Thanks Kimmie.

Do you have to boil whatever you add the gluc to so it will thicken up? Thanks.

No, it's like psyllium, it will thicken up very quickly even in cold fluid so it's better if you stir it in/blend soon after adding.

It's not a drink, but yesterday I posted in the DD recipes thread that I'd mixed both psyllium and glucomannan powder into some applesauce which just thickened that up a lot and then I ate it with some low-fat custard. Mixing it this way made the texture OK for me. (I have days when I can't taste much at all so texture becomes very important for me.)

Carly has a recipe in the recent posts of the DD recipes thread where she modifies someone's gluc milkshake recipe and both of them look good to me (one with coconut milk and Carly's has almond milk).

Down Days recipes ONLY

I made this last night from Carly and it was pretty good. I didn't have the marshmallow syrup, so I used sf Salted Caramel. I stuck it in the freezer for longer than I intended and it was kinda frozen, but thawed quickly. So I ate it as a frozen pudding.

1/2 cup chocolate unsweetened almond milk (23 calories)
1/2 T cocoa powder (7 calories)
1/4 cup iced water and 3 ice cubes
2 squirts of toasted marshmellow davinci sf syrup
2 drops ez-sweetz
1/4 t gluc powder

Whole thing is 30 calories!

Just started experimenting with gluc powder last week. Brilliant stuff!

My favourite so far is to mix half a teaspoon of gluc powder with a tspn of cocoa powder in half a mug of water. Leave to set then eat with a generous dollop of vanilla yogurt. For me, doesn't need sugar as the yogurt is sweet. Yum!!

Drink plenty of water if you're using glucomannan!

Do you mix this stuff up and just let it set or blend it up? I have a dickens of a time with clumping using just a 1/4 tsp. of gluc in anything.

Vanilla-by mixing the gluc with the cocoa powder first you are essentially separating the little gluc bits so that when you mix it with the water it is much less likely to clump

Oooooh great idea on mixing with other dry ingredients first. Can I use the capsules? That's what I bought to start to try it before I buy a big bag.

Yes, just open them up and pour out the contents although it may take a fair number to achieve 1/2tsp or so.

I always mix the gluc powder separately with a bit of cold water, then immediately stir it into the soup or whatever else I'm using. No whisks or blenders necessary and no clumping whatsoever!

So, for my chocogluc pud, I mix half a tspn cocoa to a paste with a little boiling water, then add more hot water, to half the mug height. (I use a latte mug).
I mix the gluc powder with some cold water then immediately stir it into the cocoa and leave to cool.

Don't forget to have plenty to drink afterwards and it's very sustaining.

Just wanted to pop in and say I made a shake before church yesterday and used the suggestion to mix the gluc with the cocoa powder before adding it to the liquid. Worked great and no lumps!!!!

Revisiting this thread. Does anyone out there add glucomannan to protein powder to make yummies that are higher in protein? I occasionally have troubles with hypoglycemia so in general prefer meals or snacks with some protein. Thanks!

just wanted to chime in about mixing the gluc with other powder--I mix 1/2 tsp gluc with my 4C drink mix (like crystal lite but splenda instead of aspartame) and it does the same trick: no clumping--

How about knox gelatin as a replacement to gluc powder does it work the same way I got the capsules also and I love that they help to fill me up and I eat less if I use my willpower to push away. It also helps the dd hunger now if I could just control my munchiesAny ideas that might help?

I'm not sure how well the gelatin would work, but I do know gelatin has calories where gluc doesn't.

Konjac Foods brand. I got it from Netrition. I just looked at the package and it actually doesn't have calories listed at all, but my calorie tracker has it listed as 0 calories, but does have carb and fiber info. I've always counted it as 0, but now I wonder.
