Also will be praying for your son, and how wise of the doctor to do enough but not too much. This too will pass! Yes, he has a truly interested parent - what a blessing right there.

Delighted to see a photo of the Mickey and Pluto visit! That was such a sweet story to share. Memory moment!

Seabreezes, thank you for gathering and sharing that info. I don't know if I would ever send a "fan letter", lol, but it's nice to know how. I was thinking as I responded to newbie Shelly's post today about losing 11 pounds so early and easily after reading Dr. Johnson's book, that he certainly would deserve to know about stories like hers.

Thinking of you today, Tanya.

Beautiful, handsome, sweet little boy you have there Yennie!

I have an odd parental issue and am wondering if anyone's dealt with something similar. Keira has a Nook. We had parental blocks on it, but then she wasn't even able to access a lot of "safe" sites, so we removed them. Last night, after she went to bed, she came out of her room and asked me to fix her Nook because it was stuck on an adult website. She's 8!

We have a very open dialogue about such things and she knows she can ask me if she has any questions, but I think she was just curious. She typed in a search for the S-word, and got directed to a very graphic site, and it froze her Nook. So, anyhoo, I told her it's natural that she was curious, but to not look up things like that on the internet because she'll see things that either aren't true, or that she's not mature enough to understand. She was scared to tell me, but I told her I'm not mad (other than the fact that she was supposed to be ASLEEP), and I was proud of her for being honest with me.

Parental controls will be put back on and she'll just have to deal with it. She's asked about the mechanics and the biology of the act, and I've explained the best I could. It's just hard to know how much is too much information, especially with a gifted child. Ugh.

Thank you thank you for your prayers!! They worked so far!!!!

They did the mammo and had me wait in the room, then both of the techs came out and said we need a sonogram of it to go with the mammo. I started hyperventalating (sp?). So the tech who did the sonogram on ovaries too, did the sonogram on my boob. When she was done she took me to another room to do the internal sonogram. While we were walking, she looked at me and said..."Honest opinion is nothing to worry about with your breast." THEN she said..."woman with PCOS also sometimes get cysts on thier breasts". I said doc was only thinking PCOS, she just smiled and said yeah and sometimes it is found. SOOOOOOOOO I dont know everything for sure yet, but sounds like my boob is good and my ovaries are showing that string of pearls and I am getting the PCOS diax I have been looking for!

My appointment for all results are April 26th, the tech said if something is of urgent importance I should get a call much sooner!

Thanks so much for the thoughts and prayers!!! I am one happy person at the moment!

I remember when my son got caught looking for boobs on youtube. He didnt know there was a history that saved searches and my daughter found it and told on him. He was 11 I think, well anyways we had the talk! And I told him I understood he was curious, and that there was always things I cant answer for him. But I prefer him to come to me instead of looking things like that up online, because most of what he will find is wrong in many many ways! And honestly after we had our open conversation, he has come to me over a few things.....not many but enough that I know he trusts me!

Dawn,
I obviously don't have that problem yet but...
What about getting a good book on puberty & s__. I had one when I was a kid, I think starting in 3rd grade my mom started reading it to me. It talked about all the changes, mostly geared for girls but there were a few chapters on boys & s__/pregnancy. We read 1-2 chapters a night then talked about it if I had questions.
I would say if she's asking, she is ready. She's gifted so if she doesn't get it from you she will figure out some other way & who knows what kinda baloney she may come across on her own or from friends.
Yikes! The stuff I have to look forward to!

Phew, sounds like super good news, Katie!!!

Dawn, surprisingly, I haven't experienced this with any of mine yet. I am VERY open with my kids, too, and personally think it's a very good thing. I embarrass my teens all the time with my chatter. Can't help myself! Anyhoo, does Kiera have AG's "The Care & Keeping of You" book? Jenna has that and has read some of the more innocent chapters. I don't think she's started to read any of the other parts yet, (I told her we'd read them together). I may have to check up on that again.

Tanya, sounds to me as if your diagnosis is as you expected. Also pleased that DS will have minimally invade surgery.

Tayna, you must be feeling very relieved!

Jen, your son is so cute!!

Granny, my DH shops like you. I send him out for a loaf of bread and some milk and comes back with four carrier bags full of things with "reduced" stickers - and often no milk!
He gets really shirty when I toss out the well-past-dead stuff!

Actually, even before this, I've been sort of looking for a good book or 3D model of the human body for her. She's really inquisitive. I hadn't been able to find anything that appeared remotely "real," so I put it on the back burner. I need to trust my instincts.

I'll look for "The Care & Keeping of You." Thanks!!

Dawn, AG has a bunch of cool books on different things girls go through. DD has a book on "feelings" and a book about the body, too. I'm not sure about pictures, though, I don't remember? I'll have to look through again. I just wanted a bunch of things there for when she might have questions or want to do some private reading without me, aka: obnoxious mom. Let us know (or pm me?) if you find something good, ok? I'd love to know more for DD.

I recommend the book, 'It is Perfectly Normal'. I found it to be very informative, and with illustrations instead of pictures, easy to look at without too much embarrassment. However, I am fairly liberal. An acquaintance who is conservative tried to get it removed from our library, she was so offended! So, I guess it depends where you are on the spectrum.

Hey Dawn! I am a teacher and I would highly recommend educational resources!! Check on Amazon for "educational resources health" ---> this one is for ages 7-9 Sex and Relationships Education 7-9 Plus CD-ROM: The No...Sex and Relationships Education 7-9 Plus CD-ROM: The No...

I did painting with my students today ...its a lot of fun for them, but so much cleaning and preparation for me. Must find a way to make it less messy.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm very liberal and honest with her, probably too much so at times, but I feel like if she's seeking it out, she needs to know, and I'd rather have some control over the information she's receiving, and expand on it as needed, rather than her seeking it out in unhealthy ways.

I think that's what I was trying to say, badly, in my previous comment. Blinding headache makes one not terribly eloquent.
I did remember the name of the book I had as a kid, called "What's Happening To My Body: A Book for Girls" No idea if its still in print but I can only image there are many of that ilk - looks like you've gotten good suggestions already.

I think its awesome that you are open with her. My mom was too, about all sorts of things - drinking, drugs, sex, teen pregnancy, disease, etc and even as an adult I'm grateful. Its interesting to talk to the people who's parents were not open with them now that they're grown. I definitely think thats the way to go!!!

Dawn, it sounds like you handled it amazingly well. Being open is so important. My mother also read one of those books with me about what was happening before and during puberty. My parents were really open and liberal, but I see how it effects now adults that didn't have that from their parents. So much ridiculous misinformation.

Can I just say... Thank G-d for that slice of pizza. I felt like I was half dead from 40 hours of potatoe hack. The pizza brought me back to life!

I want to share my exciting news

I got promoted at work today! I am the new compliance officer and director of the compliance department. I will no longer be able to work with my clients, but I'm asking for a month to terminate with them since I have been treating some of them for almost 5 yrs.

This is very exciting for me and comes with nice compensation as well.

I know I never would have gone for this job if I hadn't lost the weight. I was so ashamed and lacked confidence a year ago. I couldn't have done it without all of you!

Carly - CGNGRATULATIONS!!!! What exciting news!
Thanks, all, for the kind comments on the pictures. He sure is a fun little monkey. We are almost all back to 100%. And Fed Ex returned my completely intact wallet this morning...had over $200 cash for our trip plus the credit cards, etc so huge relief. Plus the Disney Photopass was in there too, major relief to have that back.
Alls well that ends well!!!
