I've been away and missed you all, this week has turned into 6:1 for me. But that is fine.

Good to see so much interest in this.

Eventually, I'd like to relax on counting everything, but it's really hard for me to NOT count. I've been trying so long to lose weight, that counting is really part of my everyday existence.
I understand completely why you'd want to count. I'm afraid not to count. I just at least have to have a number so I can see about how much I can eat without gaining. I just know me and if I don't watch it I could blow back up before you know it. When I was at 150 last year I was doing pretty good with the counting, then we started working out of town and I thought I could just so, so count and be fine and I ended up back to 164.5. So I'm sort of paranoid about not keeping a handle on it now. That is one thing that I feel like JUDDD has taught me. Look at portions and calories in those portions and to look up foods at restaurants before you go just arbitrarily eat something you "think" would be ok. Just like my 1/2 turkey club sandwich I "thought" was ok turned out to be 600 cal or better. Thanks so much for the input!

Today is my dd for the week (Monday was a md). I've decided to stop weighing everyday and only weigh in on Tuesdays and Fridays, so I'm very curious to see what the scale says tomorrow, especialy with tom here this week!

After a 600ish calorie dd yesterday, my weight was 133.5lbs this morning, right in the middle of my maintenance range It's tom this week so I was expecting a bit of a bounce, but it did'nt affect the scale yay! So it seems a md/dd 5:2 plan is working for me

I am delighted with the 125 on the scale today.

So glad this is working for you too Sara. I only had one DD this week.

Thanks, Nana...that was a fun clip. Hopefully, it'll end up on our JUDDD sticky.

It's funny that I have found 2 DD's in a row not so difficult. I tend to think about food by evening, fueled by TV commercials, and I'll think, 'oh I can have pizza tomorrow', but then tomorrow comes and I'm not really hungry.

Anyway, ultimately, I just play it by ear and convenience is the rule.
The thing about two in a row is that is easy to throw in another DD later if necessary....like after a party or something.

It has been fun watching Dr. Mosley making the rounds on T.V. in the US to promote his FastDiet book.

I was surprised to hear him tell Rachel Ray that it was okay to do two consecutive fasting days a week. That's a first.

PBS is suppose to be running a special on April 6th, but I'm not sure what time. Most likely it's going to be a replay of the Horizon documentary that he did. It's pretty neat that all the research he looked into for that was done here in the US. It would be nice if they included an updated segment on any of the latest research on IF. The other day I posted a few links about some new research on SIRT1 and anti-aging, over on the thread about Dr. J's book on JUDDD. Dr. M doesn't include anything about SIRT1 in either his documentary or book. IDK why not?

New study identifies universal mechanism for activating anti-aging pathway

I have done the occasional consecutive DDs, but not since I started 5:2.

I believe that once our bodies are pumping sirtuin and are used to handling DDs, we can make this work in our own way. Some need more regular rotations than others I suspect, but many of us, particularly if we are in maintenance, are able to stretch the boundaries.

Just my thoughts.

I am one of those that found I had to continue the EOD rotations. I quickly gained 4 pounds when I did three controlled UD's in a row. I tried to do two DD's in a row once and failed at that experiment. Then once I did two UD's in a row and an almost zero DD following and did fine. There are so many options to play with.

Yesterday's fasting day went out the window after hubby ordered out sushi for dinner and opened a bottle of wine.
Sorry, but I only have just so much self control when up against a glass of wine and a dragon roll.

I was so hoping to make it down to 140 by the end of this month, and before feasting on Easter tomorrow...oh well there's always another fasting day to be had in my near future next Mon. And the start of a brand new month, that includes my birthday on the 20th, our 35th wedding anniversary on the 23rd, and a 2 week vacation from the 15th to the end of April.

I'm strongly considering maybe doing phase 1 of South Beach for the first two weeks of April, along with 4:3.

Happy Easter Weekend!

Ann

Your birthday is the day after mine Ann lol. I'm planning for an UUAD on my birthday . I too was hoping to be in the 140's before March was over, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. I'm not too concerned though. I don't do that all the time so just going to hop back on plan right after Easter.

Although I am going to enjoy the Easter weekend it won't really be feasting for me. No chocolate eggs and in the UK lamb is more traditional than ham, so no water retention issues to worry about.

I have enjoyed some hot cross buns but not in excess.

Brand new month on Monday, nice.

I had hot cross buns for breakfast with coffee this morning.

I decided instead of making ham for Easter, that I would do a fresh pork roast. Same animal, but less cured and salty. I'll also be making manicotti for our 1st course, because we're Italian and what's a holiday feast without pasta. Along with peach cobbler that my DIL is making, and some Lindts chocolate truffle eggs that I picked up at Costco earlier today. Plus wine of course.

I'm already very much looking forward to my next fasting day on Monday. In the past, the month of April was usually when I would start the roller coaster ride back up the scale in my usual yo-yo dieting. From New Years Day to Easter is when I would habitually drop the Christmas holiday weight gain of 10 lbs. (going from 165 to 155) which were my previous 5 yr. high & low weight set points. Only to regain it all back by May, which use to then take me all summer/fall to lose again - just in time for the holidays. This year with the help of IF - I'm determined not to repeat that same old pattern, now that I've got my new high weight set point at 145. Instead of regaining the 10 lbs. that I've lost so far, I want to lose another 10 to get to my goal weight of 135 by Memorial Day.

At least that's my plan. How's the saying go - those that fail to plan, plan to fail...or something like that.

Ann

Well, today was an uuuad-ate entire 12 inch pizza for supper In my defense it wasn't a normal pizza- it was from a local place that only has the one size with a super thin crust, almost no sauce, and then limited toppings. Also they don't have sides, or even menus lol. You go in and everyone orders their own pizza-a fun, quirky place

Ann, you seem to have it sorted girl. We will be here, supporting you all the way.

Sara that is the only kind of pizza I like. Thinner the better, crisp and tasty, yet minimal sauce.

It is now Easter Sunday here in the UK, and our clocks go forward tonight.

So HAPPY EASTER

HAPPY EASTER!

Still stuffed full of last night's dinner of wine and wood fired grilled chicken, spinach & feta cheese pizza.

This morning, I'll only have coffee until Easter Brunch at 2:00. Planning to quit eating by 6 tonight to begin tomorrow's fasting day. April Fools day will also be the first day of my slimming Spring cleaning & tune up with South Beach/IF 4:3 for the next 8 wks. to reach my goal of 135 by Memorial Day.

I hope to be back to do 5:2 for maintenance over the summer & beyond, along with the rest of you who are having such great success with it so far!

kissa and adi, I was not suggesting that two DD in a row is any better and that it would be preferable.

I think that was the original study (Mattson) but even Mosley didn't stick to it.

I have always believed that alternate days would be best for keeping SIRT1 at the highest level so, really, this was just an observation.....which I probably should've kept to myself.

Sorry 'bout that.

Happy Easter everyone!

I was glad that my Easter dress still fit me this morning, after my uuad yesterday We had breakfast at church and I tried to keep it under control-1 sausage link, 2 chocolate donut holes and then scrambled eggs with mushroom and cheese. Passed on the danishes and waffles and fruit salad (it has some kind of syrup in it

Lunch at the inlaws-I'm passing on the ham and will have a large, loaded salad and chicken. Skipping all the sides, but will have a piece of pie for dessert
Tonight will be a frozen entree of some sort.

Tomorrow will be a lower calorie md-really feeling the need for it after yesterday!

I'm loving 5:2 for maintenance. It's very freeing and I still enjoy my DDs with great energy and concentration. My DDs are currently Mon and Wed. I aim to keep them under 300, but if they go up a bit I don't fuss. I still find that I eat for the most part only in the evenings. I may start an UD with a 25 calorie diet swiss miss, but still don't usually eat till dinner. Sometimes I have to stop and think whether it's and UD or a DD.
