I see where Jillian Michaels has a free recipe book for 5:2 for Kindle prime. Has anyone read it? The reviews are very mixed. I don't have prime.

Thanks in advance!

I'm officially joining you all with 5:2. For now my DDs will be Monday and Wednesday. The last 3 weekls turned out exactly like that with no ill effects so why not make it official!

Aboard Carly!

Seabreezes, I haven't seen or heard of that 5:2 recipe book by JM on Amazon.

Busy weekend with a big sibling birthday party celebration for 3 of my grandkids (ages 8,6 & 4). I'm planning to try fasting throughout the day Sun. by only having coffee/tea, and only eating during the time frame of the party 3-8. Kinda like Fast5...I think. I'll check back here Mon. for my regularly scheduled fasting day.

Hope you all have a joyful weekend doing what you love best, with your loved ones!

Ann

Welcome aboard Carly!

New low this morning (159.2) and first day of TOM. May or may not drop after TOM, so ! I'll take it!

Off to start downloading.

I did a search for Jillian Michaels 5:2 and got no hits.

Downloaded: "The 5:2 Fast Diet Recipes: For Your Fasting Days (How to actually use diets)." It looks pretty good but seems to involve actual cooking, so I don't know if it'll get much use here.

Carly, how lovely. It is simply the nicest maintenance tool. I love it and it is so easy to throw in an extra DD if needed. I have only done that once, but we experienced JBs find it so easy.

I had a bit of an up, up day yesterday (supper at basket ball tournament), but I'm only up one pound this morning, so very happy about that I also played around with my calorie numbers and I'm going to aim for 6 days of calories in the 1,400-1,800 range and then Thursday be my one 500 dd. Since yesterday was a higher calorie day, today will be a lower one. I'm also not going to be super strict about recording my calories (eventually I'd like to be able to get away from counting at all on my normal days), so we'll see how this goes

Don't think I'm going to make it doing Fast5 until 3:00 for the birthday party today. It's just after 11 a.m. and although I've had two cups of coffee- I have a splitting headache. So, I think to help my blood sugar balance out a bit better, I'm going to have a few egg whites & a slice of ham. I'll try to hold out to eat until 12, but there's no point in me waiting to get shaky. I usually eat within an 8 hour window - breakfast @ 10, lunch @ 2 & dinner @ 6.

Keep on keeping on all, no matter what may come your way! We're expecting another snow storm by morning to bring at least 6" of the blasted white stuff.

I can't wait for my DD tomorrow. I tend to feel more energetic with more DDs, I think, but I may just be tired and TOM has been trying to start for a few days

Just trying to come up with a proactive strategy to better control all the feasting and food temptations over the next couple of holiday weekend celebrations. I'd just hate to undo the small bit of progress that I've made so far in the new year.

Usually at this time of year, the warmer Spring weather is enough motivation for me to stick with a lighter food menu of salads and get outside to work in my garden, but this year's artic weather is making me want to continue to hibernate inside and eat more carby comfort foods.

I heard there are plans to fire the groundhog for incompetence in predicting an early spring!

LOL!! I feel the same way! We're getting below freezing temps tonight & tomorrow night!! Everything in our gardens are UP!!! We'll be exercising by covering everything before dark.

All of you are doing so well on 5:2! My DH finally knocked his DD calories down to 500 & lost 2lbs. overnight! So, he's down 30lbs!! We're thinking about doing 5:2 together. I'm still maintaining!

I'm sitting at mcdonalds right now, making today an UUAD I may throw in a mid day tomorrow, to help offset the weekend (800ish calories). My weekends tend to be higher calories, so maybe a md monday/dd thursday 5:2 plan would work well for me?
I love the freedom of IF, to be able to tweak to see what works best for us individually

This morning it looks like a winter wonderland outside. Feels more like it's Christmas...not Easter. I'm seriously considering starting a new tradition here in Pa. - by cooking roasted groundhog for Easter brunch, instead of ham.

Finished my first week of 5:2 (actually 6:1) this past week and love this kind of plan for maintenance! However-thinking out loud here:

-I love the maintenance range I chose, which is 133-135lbs. My body seems to like it too as I've steadily been hanging out in this range for the past several days
-I've quickly realized that I really, really hate counting calories on my normal days. I didn't count them on my UDs while losing weight and I really don't want to have to count them for maintenance
-in order to not count calories on my normal days (at least for the majority of them, will spot check here and there), I do think I need to do a 5:2 version, and not 6:1 like I originally wanted to try. I think the second day will help offset the extra calories that may be consumed on normal days
-however, I really want to eat as 'normally' as possible for maintenance and would like to avoid 2 dds a week, if possible.
-sooo, going to try a md/dd 5:2 plan-Mondays being the md at 600-800 calories and then Thursdays being a solid 500 calorie dd. Going to try it and see what happens. Really feeling like this may be 'it' for me, for a successful maintenance plan
-I also need to stop focusing on the scale. Daily weigh ins were helpful when I was losing weight, but I don't think it's so important now that I'm in maintenance and doing 5:2. I put my scale in the closet yesterday and I'm going to start weighing just twice a week-after my mds/dds. Twice a week will still be enough to make sure I'm in my range and not starting to creep up to high.

Ok, done rambling

When 4 or 5 or even 6 "regular" days are staring me in a row, it is a little disconcerting. I have been managing with 1, 2, or 3 meals depending on my schedule and that has helped me manage the calories. I don't plan it out for the next five days (too much obsessing), I just do it and it has seemed to work out.

1 meal day - I often play tennis in the week in the evenings. I eat a large-ish meal between 2-4 and that's it for the day except for an electrolyte beverage after tennis (no cals). I couldn't believe I didn't get hungry after tennis - the first couple times I got grumbly, but it passed. If I want anything earlier or after, it is low carb only. (that includes berry/yogurt smoothie or cheese/half apple, by the way...)

2 meal day - During the week when I have no tennis or on the weekend when something great is planned like dinner with friends or a lovely feast with DW, I will generally just try wait until I am hungry and just eat two meals that day - often trying for a 5-8 hour eating window. One meal here is usually low carb (but not always).

3 meal day - this happens when I want a yummy breakfast or egg mcmuffin (!) - fortunately for me only about 1-2x a week. generally no counting and only sometimes UUAD.

"Maintaining" with this modified 5:2 has been awesome, and I am still trending down. It is really about the cal cycling with an emphasis on getting enough cals for the week and for me EOD was putting me in a restrict mindset and this does not.

Calorie cycling is the key to the success of this woe, similar to all the other versions of IF. For me, the biggest difference that I'm experiencing compared to JUDDD, is a sense of freedom in its flexibility with only 2 fasting days a week and peace of mind without the "all or nothing" attitude I had when thinking in terms of an UD & DD.

Good morning, doing my 5:2 weekly check-in.

I was up .2 this morning but not alarmed and really most thankful. Yesterday I had a hamburger (including bun) and fries which was my highest carb day since beginning low carb in August of last year so I really expected 2 lbs.

It .totally.was.not.worth.it...not as good as I remembered and caused me to be so hungry last night. I had to fight hunger for 2 hours before it went away, from 10 to 12 and I hated it.

So thankful for the chicken in the crock this morning

I have been experimenting with eating windows for a couple of weeks. I am not eating before 12 and most often finding an 8 hour windows very satisfactory, sometimes even 5.

I am following you girls, thank you so much!

160.4 this morning, after three UDs and going into my first DD of the week. I had a crazy UUAD on Saturday (partly because of TOM and partly to see if I could get away with it in maintenance). I had 2700 calories and expected to bounce much higher than I did. I'm really starting to think that, with my exercise, I can get away with a little bit higher UDs. Still playing around and trying to find my groove.
