WOE: Moderate Carb JUDDD (Lost first 4 lbs on WW)
Start Date: 7/4/2012 -- 42 lbs lost total
36 Weeks on JUDDD -- And Not So Chill

Today I weighed in at 250 lbs for a loss of 2 lbs this week, a total of 40 lbs lost, 36 of them on JUDDD.

Alright, so this was a good week. Why not so chill? Will explain below. But instead of doing upsides and downsides this week, I'm going to give you the high point and low point of the week.

High Point

I did my first full fast this week. I've gotten through the day on nothing but 75 calories worth of bulletproof coffee but I've never before made it on 0 calories. It didn't even feel like martyrdom because I taught a class that night which kept me quite occupied. I was super duper impressed with myself. I'm not sure I'll do it every down day or even attempt to, but it does mean that my fasting muscle is actually getting stronger.

Low Point

Settle in for this cluster-nuttery...because it's quite a tale.

Ok, so in my efforts to get my up days under control, I carefully planned out a genius up day menu, featuring our favorite and most filling low-carb, low-calorie meal: Buffalo Chicken Wraps.

But when dinner time rolls around, my white knight and I fall prey to a stunning series of comic misunderstandings and tragic missteps. First, the unhappy discovery: We are almost out of wraps! Not enough for both of us.

Irritated by the fact that I've so carefully planned my calories for the day and now had to start over, I murmur something about how we're going to have to make something else. What my husband apparently hears is, "Please go ahead and make the only dinner that fits into my calorie count for today and leave me to fend for myself..." And then, as I stand there gaping at him while he cooks, he assumes I am merely slack-jawed with amazement at his mad tortilla-folding skills.

When he finally notices the steam rising from my ears, he offers to split it. And we can just add some other side. Except that I didn't know of any side off the top of my head that would go with a buffalo chicken wrap, much less fit in with my calorie guidelines. This would require more math. And if I had wanted to do math, I wouldn't have become a writer!

Moreover, this is my up day and I don't want some kind of culinary bastardization of a wrap-and-mystery-side. Embittered, I stomp to the freezer to find something, anything, that might work with the calories I have left. But nothing. Closest thing I have is a bag of chicken fried rice from Trader Joe's. It's off by only 100 calories. Fine. Except, as I start to cook it, I realize that it requires oil. That's another 100 calories. Also, its bland as hell. Which means it requires spices. In goes garlic paste and chili paste. Another 50 calories. And damn, this is a lot of rice. What if this carb-heavy meal leaves me hungry? I add an egg. Another 75 calories. And now I'm just grumpy as hell.

The white knight, at this point, offers me his wraps. Anything to stop the crazy! But he's put walnuts in the damned wraps and doesn't he know how many calories are in walnuts? That wasn't in the plan! So I tell him what he can do with his buffalo chicken wraps...

In spite of the fact that I did dishes just that morning, there is no bowl for my food, which almost sends me into a complete melt down. The JUDDD calm is no where to be found. It has left the building. So I dump half my crummy stupid fried rice into a hillbilly tupperware container and broodingly eat supper--hoping that dividing the meal in half meets my calorie count.

Maybe it does, but it leaves me, as expected, quite hungry. And I am in no way emotionally prepared to be hungry on an up day. I know that my angst at this point is not justified. I know that I'm not being rational. So it's better if I just shut up rather than say something that is going to further prove to my husband that I have totally LOST IT!

Unfortunately, my relative silence does not fool him. And he decides that he's going to ride to my rescue. He offers to make me a snack. I agree. What I do not anticipate is that he will bring me a platter of cheeses and crackers and chips and dip--all of which probably add up to a bajillion calories.

My willpower is gone in a snap. I don't count. I don't care.

I eat everything on that platter...another up day disaster.

And yet, I still lost two pounds today, so I'm back down to my mini-goal. So this just proves that even with loony-tunes moments like this one, JUDDD still works

OMG I love you!!!
I'm so sorry about the mix up - its hard to not be protective of those UD cals. But what an awesome story (sorry, its easy for me to laugh when it didn't happen to me )
And how cool to fast all day? Its 5:30 now, I've not had anything but a bit of CO in my coffee today (and lots of water) and I'm wondering if I should try to make it through the day or eat dinner...we'll see...you may have inspired me to try this!
Thank you again ever so much for sharing your journey with us!

I can so identify with hungry Up Day mad woman! I said to my dog once, while he sat at my feet with big puppy dog eyes, wanting a morsel, "no, this is my up day!"
But those buffalo chicken wraps sound goo-ood!

ETA-congrats on the complete fast!! And 2 lbs!!

I think I resemble this scene. I mean, I remember something similar. Let me add, tonight was my UD dinner and not only did I want a perfect meal, I wanted no stress and a "beautiful" evening, as all UDs should be. Why do we set ourselves up like this? It's always bound to backfire.
Great job on your *complete* fast and LOSS! All this work has to add up to something good! I mean, subtract.

Love the update!

Steph, you've given me a good laugh (sorry! I'm laughing WITH you not AT you!). I know that out-of-control-mood-spin well. I guess it just has to happen sometimes. I'm so glad you got a loss out of it, as well as a good story!

Superwoman, a 0 calorie day? I don't see myself ever doing that, barring a bad stomach flu. Wow, I'm in awe of that.

Yum! Sounds so good! But I shouldn't have read it on a DD. LOL! It made my tummy growl.

Congrats on your progress!

Have to say I keep so many choices and options around that if I run out of one thing I can move on to something else. I relate to Cindy as DH can make cereal and toast and heat up leftover casseroles or meatloaf. That's about it! And, he can never, ever find anything. He would not have been able to find the tortilla so it would have been safe. Ha!

I can definitely commiserate! So proud of you for sticking to it. That is the hardest part, keeping on track when things fall apart. I don't keep snacks in the house because I have done LC for so many years. My daughter has grown up on fruit, yogurt and LC items for snacks.

I have recently purchased Special K crackers and Laughing Cow cheese to eat with soup on my DD's. I almost lost it when I walked in the other day and my daughter and 3 of her friends were happily munching on the above (two of them were LARGE boys!) I obviously had to control the temper tantrum I wanted to throw! My quick thinking saved the day, however! I immediately made them the 3-2-1 cakes featured in another thread. They forgot all about my cheese and crackers and devoured the cakes. Oh yeah and "Mama Sara" was the hero!

I used your line today on my hubby. We were getting ready to leave for dinner & the boys were dinking around. I got stuck at work an hour longer, ran out of snacks and by time I got home I wanted to eat N.O.W!
My hubby started to go do something else and I said, "No! We are going NOW! I am hungry, I want to eat! I am not psychologically prepared to be hungry on a day I can eat!"
He laughed, we left & the burger was yummy.
