I know I really need to cut down on the junk food I eat. I've always known that but just can't seem to do it (I LOVE sweets of all kinds, especially chocolate). Well, if I can't change that then I'll just stay fat and have to accept that, which I'm not willing to do. So, something's got to change and it has to be me.
Jiggles, can you work up to a higher cacao percent chocolate? I now eat 85% or higher percent cacao chocolate sometimes; it's an approved food on the "Perfect Health Diet" (which is all about avoiding junk food), because the chocolate part--not the sugar part--has some real nutritional value.

I'm going back on JUDDD rotations, starting tomorrow. I've been eating basically healthy lowcarb food, since I stopped potato hacking, but I haven't kept up my JUDDD UDs and DDs--so I'm going to start working it again. I'll be staying with my sweet sister for 10 days, who asked me on the phone tonight whether I'll be having an up day or a down day tomorrow, so we could appropriately plan whether or not to go out to eat.

So, I look forward to working JUDDD again with Nilla and all you other lovely JUDDD BUDDDs! It's so helpful to know that one isn't doing this alone.

What a dear sister. Enjoy getting back into the rotations, and, I'm so with you on the chocolate. I have now got myself onto the 90% and simply love it. Milk chocolate is just pointless to me now, which really helps with all the Easter candy around as most of it is milk.

Sorry for the thread jack 'Nilla.

I have tried the higher % of chocolate and don't like it at all. It's like eating a block of bittersweet chocolate to me. I do like some dark chocolate (which is supposed to be better for you than milk choc.) but it's still fairly sweet tasting. IDK, maybe if I started off slowly and worked my way up I could tolerate it.

I am one too that doesn't really care for higher cacao. I have some that I've eaten on DDs...I think it's 70%. My bf got a big handfull of them and sat down to eat them, and then exclaimed, "What is this?!" He said, "It tastes like medicine."

The 70% or higher dark chocolate is too bitter for me on its own, so I use it in fat bombs. Adding coconut oil and butter or almond butter mellows out the bitter taste, and I usually add a few drops of liquid Splenda or stevia to add more sweetness.

Reminds of when my SO and I were at his mom's house and she offered us some chocolate. I said no thanks (which should have been a sign to my SO!) because she's a health nut and I knew it wouldn't be chocolate we would like. He took some. The look on his face was priceless.

The 70% is all I can make it to. I've tried the next one and just can not do it.

Caught up on posts.

Nilla: I just started reading the book this morning, so all my thoughts are not "fully baked". However I wanted to share one.

A few days ago I turned on PBS and saw J.J. Virgin, author of The Virgin Diet, giving a long, detailed speech about her book and the how-to for her diet.

At first, it seemed to make sense. But then my B.S. meter started to register (that's what Shannon calls it I think).

In the beginning of her talk, JJ makes it sound so simple and so sensible. "You just have to give up 7 foods. Wouldn't you do that if you could lose 7 pounds in 7 days?" The audience nods. The first food to give up is soy. I'm thinking. OK, I'm in. I only eat soy if it's hidden in protein powders or veggie burgers. Easy to cut that out.

However, as she goes on and the list includes eggs, dairy, gluten and most whole grain products because they contain gluten, and then, are you kidding me? Corn? We can never eat corn or eggs or yogurt again?

So, I faithfully watched her speech until the end. Promised myself I'd give it a bit more thought or do some Google research.

Reading Shannon's book this morning made me realize that for me and for most people that diet would be torture and worthless. JJ says she was tested for egg allergies. I don't know how many other food allergies she was tested for. But I agree with the premise in "Then Just Stay Fat" that MOST people don't have a problem with gluten.

And, I refuse to have expensive medical tests. I have my thyroid tested every year and have the standard blood panel and physical exam.

I gotta go but just wanted to get that off my chest! Hugs to you Nilla you wonderful JB you!

Oh, one other quick thought. When she talked about doing a U-turn, I loved it! Something like... if you are 20 or even 50 pounds over weight, do a U-turn now or you could end up 100 or more over weight. That's a thought for me to chew on! Thanks again for the heads up on a very motivational read!

Love a tell it like it really is author. Now if I had said some of those things on this board I would have been "non supportive".

I think I have used most of those "excuses" and I hear others do it all the time and I have been very tempted to say, "Well, then just stay fat..."

So glad you mentioned this book. Love it.

Oh and I love baking chocolate. Have no idea why but the bitterness is part of the like I guess. I keep a pacakge in the freezer for those times I want candy.

So glad you're all enjoying the book and taking something (or lots) from it! I'm still reading it and letting it soak in. But just the title of her book keeps running through my head and just that has helped me so much.

Yam - I'd have to toss anything that would dare to even try to take away yogurt!! And yeah, I know there are lots of good books out there and I know we all have more than we need - now I'm thinking what a waste of good money. I'm wondering why I'm able to agree with her "eat less, move more" thing when I've just insisted that for me, that just hasn't worked for 3+ decades when others put it out there.

Adi - I kept thinking the same thing about how snarky she is, but yep, anyone would be viewed as "non-supportive" (and has) for saying the same things on this or any other board!

The downside is now when I hear someone complaining about not being able to lose weight IRL, ".. then just stay fat" is what I want to say!

I read it for 27 minutes while on my exercise bike. I like her attitude... she can be my 'tell it like it is' alter-ego. She is definitely right that it is easier not to get fat in the first place- well, too late for that, but I'm sure as anything gonna make sure I don't get fat again... I hope

Does this author say to imagine meals as black and white and in between as colour? I read this somewhere (and I have read so much) but it's something that really stuck in my head and I wish I could read more. If not does anybody remember reading something like this and who it was??

I like this avitar too. Thanks
I just used my hands to hold the book and prayed I didn't fall off. I did fine.
I never, ever, take a lunch break at work, but I did today and read more of the book. I really like it- she is quite zippy and on point!

Cindy it was a bit of a disappointment, I certainly won't be making it again. If you really want it I'll post it but to be frank, it was not my finest hour.

I think I'll pass. I've had some recipes that I tried that didn't turn out well too, so I know how disappointing it is.
