For me, food-rewarding is like I said, my amazing gourmet chef friend meals. I go into those prepared for the calorie "spend" AND for any bounce the next day.

But, as I pass the thai restaurant at the end of my street and think, Oh, Bubble Tea, maybe tomorrow... tomorrow has come and come again and again since April 2012, and I've not gotten a single one.

400 cals on a drink? on even an UD? are you nuts (I think to myself)... I could have 4 more oz of roast beef!

I just freakin love juddd!
I have yet to try Boba tea, but have wanted to for a long time, I may just use it as a meal replacement

I'm probably weird (okay, I KNOW I'm weird), but I don't like boba tea. I find it too sweet and the "bubbles" are just odd. I like tapioca pudding, so I'm not sure what my deal is.

I pretty much live in a cultural mecca, being 25 minutes outside NYC, but have never heard of boba tea. There is a marvelous Thai place 2 blocks away and we know the owner/ chef pretty well. I never recall her talking about it or seeing it on the menu. I guess I'm glad since I would not want to spend 400 calories on tea!

It might be a cultural thing?

"Chunky" drinks aren't particularly popular in US; even thick drinks, like smoothies and milkshakes, are mostly well-blended, or the bits in them are crunchy (candy & cookies in Blizzards, for example), not jelly-ish.
I remember reading an article about some other Asian drinks with jello-textured bits that didn't do well here...and some people don't like coconut water with the little chunks in it, or even orange juice with pulp!

But some of the same textures are okay served in a bowl and eaten with a spoon.
We're just scared of chewy drinks!

Maybe because many of us have had unpleasant encounters with chunky spoiled milk?!!!

Oh yeah, you just un-sold me on boba tea. I've never had it, but I can't stand tapioca so.....pass!

Yes, chunky in a beverage is BAD (for me anyway). While there's not much I DON'T like, I do have a texture hangup, and don't like anything lumpy or soggy. Oatmeal....no. Pudding.....rarely. I don't even like pulp in my OJ.

It originated in Taiwan, not Thailand...maybe that's why?
And it seems to be more of a trendy food than a traditional one.
I've never seen it sold anywhere, actually,
although I have found the tapioca pearls and boba straws at the Asian market I go to.

I know we have boba tea at one of the asian restaurants here. Texture doesn't really bother me. And I love tapioca. I also love a "chunky" drink at our local custard shop(chunky does sound kinda gross though lol) It has custarrd, peanut butter, chocolate, and "chunks" lol of pretzel. You have to eat it up before they get soft and mushy though

OMG you guys are hysterical

it took me a while to learn to like the "bubbles" in the tea (we don't usually call it boba up here, don't know why... everyone calls it bubble tea). Not sure why I forced myself to keep trying it, but somewhere along the line, I was like, yep, I want me some of that!

So many of the asian restaurants and malls have it... and the restaurant at the end of my street? I use the term "thai" loosely

I have to say, the taro flavor is really the part that keeps me thinking I'll have some... takes like oreo cookie or cookies in milk to me... and it's purple

Agree 100% with PJ on the texture thing-- I don't have issues with pulp etc, and now that I'm traveling a bit more, I'm getting exposed to more Asian food culture-- be it in Hawaii, Manila, the Hong Kong airport... I had coffee jelly in a iced latte there, having never added any jelly to any of my bubble tea, I thought, let's try it.
Meh, it's ok, take or leave it

Shaved ice (aka snowcone but less icy) in Hawaii-- omg, they add so much to it! Ice cream and mochi little chewy things and adzuki beans etc... then, I went to Manila last year, and had "halo-halo" which is like shaved ice (above) on CRACK!!! the actual shaved ice was like the smallest % of what was on the plate! ice cream, jelly, actual taro, syrup, etc etc omg crazy. I have a picture of it on my FB...

Ok, seriously-- it's a DD here and now I'm getting situationally-hungry! I'll have to go change my situation!

Never had bubble tea or heard of it until I read about it on this forum some time ago. Now that I know the calorie count, I doubt I will ever try it. I doubt I would particularly like tapioca in a drink either.

If you drink red bull you can cut it with vodka. That will damper it a bit.

I can tell you what is frustrating me about Juddd right now...I hate the down days because I cant have that much to eat, but on up days I am struggling with getting in the amount of calories I am to eat. right now I am stuck at 1100 and feel stuffed. it is 6:12 pm so maybe I will feel like eating later. weird but I am afraid of eating on ud because of gaining weight, but I am also concerned if I don't eat I will slow my progress. this weight loss thing is really starting to become a weird mind game.

If you don't eat higher UDs you aren't juddding. It is critical to get the UD/DD spread- the wider the better (300/1900 vs 500/1200). If you eat 400/1100 you are just eating a calorie restricted diet and not reaping the benefits of juddd. Try to have faith in the process- if you keep restrictng, when you want to or need to eat your metabolism will have slowed and then you may really gain. The weight fluctuations on juddd are just normal bounces. The bounce is more about the volume of food/waste in your digestive tract and not actual fat.

When I was low carb my first month I had a whole avacado each UD. I also made cheesy omelets. At that I frequently had HWC in my coffee or made popsicles with HWC. Low carb is not low calorie- you can do it!

I think it would be really hard for me on low carb too because I'm just not hungry and can't eat too much lc stuff. I think cream cheese though might help. When i was low carbing, I would spread it on a celery stick and sprinkle splenda on it.

OMG, This is so true! The other day my daughter brought me my favorite ice cream to celebrate my wgt moving into a lower decade. I had couple of spoons, gave half to my DH and kept the rest for next UD. Next day I had a spoon and gave the rest to my hubby, it just didn't taste the same! Karen- I do low carb JUDD and have no problem eating all my UD calories, in fact I usually go over
Red Meat and oily fish are have lots of calories. Fat has lots of calories (oil, butter, cream). Egg salad for example made with 3 eggs and 3 Tbl mayo can easly add up to over 600 cal. Green salad with liberal amount of oil will add to your calories. Nuts and nut butter have lots of calories.
Don't be afraid to eat up to your UD calories. Just trust the process.

I bought the red velvet cake ice cream that was mentioned in a thread on JUDDD and it definitely doesn't seem as "good" as I wanted it to be. I still ate way more than a spoonful though! OTOH, I still LOVE Hagandaz coconut/pineapple ice cream.

At first I could come close or go over, but I think the problem is I am sooo stuffed or feel it because I am satisfied with the fat and protein. I truly want to eat because I could eat just to keep myself occupied, but on low carb, it is just too filling( meaning I don't get that hunger feeling like I did after eating junk carbs). thinking maybe stomach shrinking. but also I wasn't eating till I got home in the afternoon. then I would feel full and go off to bed. but today I started early...heavy whipping cream in coffee...4 of those , 200 cals. 2 hard boiled= 154. so I started off great. I will have a snack this around 8 and that should get me close to my total for the day. I really needed to step back and look at my journal to see what I could change. so I will try this ...I think this will do the trick.

thanks for the input! every little bit of info is helping me stay on track!
