First DD tomorrow. Advice?
Our first DD is tomorrow and wondering if you guys have any tips for me. I imagine it shouldn't be worse than coming off sugar. That was TERRIBLE.

PLAN. If you can, decide what you are going to eat for the whole day tonight or first thing in the morning. Pre-weight/ measure the food and stick to that food best as possible. That is what I usually did and still do frequently on DDs. PLAN and try not to get caught off guard by hunger. Broth can be a big help.

Drink lots of hot tea if you like it, lots of water too! Eat protein! I found that Atkins pb granola bar satisfied me for breakfast 210cals. Lunch having Progresso light soup esp the broth helped keep me full til dinner for 140cals. Dinner was usually tuna w lite mayo. I did anywhere from 500-600 on DD the first month. Oh Wendys chili small for 210cals is good for on the go! Now im doing oatmeal and turk sausage on DD for dinner for 220 cals. Im also able to hold off eating til lunch having the hot tea helps. Good luck!

I got some atkins bars today and protein shakes. I've had the bars and like them, don't know about the shakes. I figured something like a bar for lunch and then a low cal dinner. I am hoping we didn't overdo it today. I am soooo much more satisfied though and feel so much mentally better.

I agree with Carly~ plan...plan...plan. I found if I occupy myself, dd aren't that bad. and if I keep myself very low on the cals till late in the day or early evening, I will fill up fast. I am finding I am going to bed earlier on dd just to keep my mind off of eating. I really don't like doing that, but I get up early anyway so it evens out. I have to admit dd are hard for me(because I am obsessed with eating even though I am not hungry) but what keeps me going is the scale telling me I am on the right path. good luck.

Works for me too!
Just re-reading Dr Mosely's book and it says in there somewhere that one large meal works better for weight-loss/insulin control than several small meals. However, everyone's different. You sound to be doing well. Enjoy your UD today! |

SORRY! Don't want to miss-quote.
Just checked the book and it says that approach should theoretically work better but the hypothesis hasn't been tested yet! It then goes on to suggest you find which works best for you ......... ![]() Last edited by Flossyliz; 03-06-2013 at 03:54 AM.. |

I think you'll feel fuller and more satisfied with some bulky food rather than the bars or shakes. There's lots of info on the sticky threads for food ideas and my favorites are the cabbage slaw variations. You get a huge serving of slaw for 100 calories, steam it with a splash of water, then add protein of your choice, along with extras like salsa, lite cheese, etc. So for 300 cals, approx, you can eat a huge pan of food spread out over a couple of hours. YMMV, but this is what works for me.

I have found I do best on down days if I eat breakfast & lunch meals within a five hour window and mostly skip eating anything after that. I often plan for a dinner, but don't generally eat it.
There were quite a few evenings where I would eat a little bit and then not be able to control myself. So now I try to schedule down days when I know I have a couple hours of yoga right after work...I won't eat before, and by the time I get home it is too late to eat, or I just have a tiny bit of protein and greens (like a couple bites) which never sets off an eating frenzy. I also try to throw in days where I only have small portions of hemp protein mixed in water a few times early in the day, which somehow settles my appetite down and I quit focusing on food. It may be the protein, or the lack of appealing flavorings, or the monodiet benefit, but that helps me.
