I hear you Carly. Some parents you just know never should have been parents. And it's very sad for the kids, especially when their messing up is acting out and dealing inappropriately with issues caused by their parents. That being said, you 2 are going to be wonderful loving parents. When you see your baby grow into a person of their own, with their own personality, it is nothing short of amazing. I truly miss those days. But now that they are older, the relationship has changed again, in a really cool way. Looking forward to hearing all about it.

The race report

Thanks everyone for the encouragement for the race. I didn't even use my inhaler so I'm considering myself pretty much 100% cured.
We did 15K (9.3 miles) and it was a pretty hilly course. Went slower than I wanted cuz Mamasita needed the slower pace HOWEVER she beat her personal best/fastest pace by about 1:30 per mile so she really rocked it. That or I'm a frickin' slave driver. "Come on Mom, you gotta run for at least a little bit! No, don't whine at me, this is downhill, we run down hill!!!" Yes, I'm mean
Absolutely brilliantly run race, from the expo to the finish line. Our finisher's "medal" was a plastic mug filled with hot chocolate, chocolate fondue, a banana, pretzels, marshmallows, rice krispie treat and cream waffer cookies all for dipping. Yum!
Plus we got a really nice sweatshirt, hat and string bag at the expo. Totally worth it! And I feel great!
I don't think I'm going to do another race between now and the one I'm signed up for in August. I've got horse outtings and shows starting up soon so I don't want to spend the money on another race. I'm really, really hoping to beat my personal record for 1/2 marathons in August. I'd really like to finish under 2:30 - which I KNOW I can do because I've hit the 1/2 way point in all my full marathons under 2:30, but I can't seem to finish a 1/2 in that time. Go figure! Vancouver is super hilly so don't know if I can pull it off. But I tell you what - running hill repeats gives you some rockin' thighs!!!

I'm just going to jump in here with an off topic question. Have any of you eaten pine nuts and found that they have any kind of appetite suppressant effect?
My brother and sister-in-law have been eating them for about a week now and swear that their appetites have been cut in half. He heard about them on Dr. Oz. I told him that I don't really have that much faith in Dr. Oz any more since I have tried so many of the things he reccommends with no positive results. Raspberry Ketones and Green coffee bean extract just to name a few.
I wonder if he is under the placebo effect.
I trust what I hear on this particular forum because everyone here is so open about their successes and their failures. Also none of you are trying to sell me anything!

Great day Yennie!

Shepheka, pine nuts are high fat, which might account for the appetite suppression. I like them sprinkled on salads etc but don't like to snack on them. They're certainly not as more-ish as ordinary nuts.

Pine nuts, huh? I am clueless, shepheka, but I'm sure someone will have an idea over here. Cute pic, btw! You're adorable!

WTG Yennie! I cannot imagine running, let alone in a race. LOL! You did awesome! (and woohoo on no inhalor!)

Thanks ladies for all the encouragement for Mom! I've passed on your good thoughts and good luck wishes, and she was tickled by that. She had a great 1st DD Saturday, a nice UD yesterday, and she's all fired up about another DD today! I think she'll do great!

Carly, how wonderful you guys are ready to get pregnant! I know you guys are going to be amazing parents. I can't wait to share in this experience with you!

Jen, congratulations to you and your mom on that race! Sounds great!

Cindy, hackers are just awful. Why do people spend valuable time and energy on destructive things like that?

Popping in to add my best wishes to Carly! How exciting! Hope everything goes smoothly for you!

I'm going to be ready for bed early tonight since I was up at 3:30!! Sure hope DH doesn't snore tonight! He doesn't usually, but the past couple nights have been a problem!

Had my hour long boot camp class this morning and will be back at it tomorrow at 5:45AM. I've been doing it since the beginning of December. What a workout! I try to go 4 times a week. Its unlike any other workout I've ever done. I think we easily get a 500 calorie burn in that hour.

Having an UD today and I'm right on track. Hoping my body gets over the carb shock and lets go of that pound it found the last couple days!

Lori

LCG, that is so awesome for your mom!

Carly, good luck with your decision, your child will be blessed to have such a fabulous mom.

Jen, congrats on the race - love the picture!

Cindy, glad you got the hacker situation under control. I just don't understand why people waste talent on destructive behavior.

Shepheka, don't know about pine nuts and appetite suppression. I do know they are very, very expensive - this is enough to cause appetite suppression, ha! Seriously, pine nuts are one of my favorite things to snack - I love the flavor and how it spreads over my tongue when I bite it, but I don't buy them often because of the expense. Like, maybe once every five years.

Thanks gals!
I'm also happy to report that I weigh exactly the same today that I did last Th before going off plan for the weekend. Today is potato DD and I'm so happy for a DD! Never thought I'd say that but I now know what you guys were meaning when you said you wanted/needed/craved the empty DD feeling.
Oh yeah!! I needed it today!!

Yennie congrats on your race!! That prize looks pretty awesome.I admire anyone who can run. I reserve running for a day when I'm being chased by monsters.

Shep, I've never heard that about pine nuts. We used to eat them when I was a child out of the yard! We had tons of pine trees and the little seeds were everywhere. Very labor intensive lol, but fun when I was a wee thing. One thing a lot of JUDDDers use for appetite control is pterostylbene (sp?). You can find it here at netrition and at some stores.

Thanks Librarygirl, I will definately look in to that suppliment.

Luv2eat, you have a great sense of humor, I should have guessed that from your name. Yes, pine nuts are expensive. The best price I have found is at Winco in the bulk food section. It is about 13 dollars a pound! Ouch!

Thanks for the compliment Flutter. That pic is about 2 years old. I don't like pictures of me so I am usually behind the camera. My husband caught me off guard when we were on vacation.

Hey, I haven't been in here for ages, but what exciting news, Carly!!!
Good luck!!!

I've heard of pine nut oil being an appetite suppressant.
I know of a product called PinnoThin that's been around for at least 7 or 8 years.
From webmd:
Quote:
The researchers gave 18 overweight women gel capsules containing either the pine nut oil or olive oil. The women took the capsules before eating a meal of carbohydrates.

The researchers checked the women's levels of appetite-related hormones including CCK and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide) over four hours. The women also rated their appetite on the same schedule.

The women who had taken the pine nut capsules reported less hunger and showed higher levels of CCK and GLP-1 than those who took the placebo pills, report Jennifer Causey, PhD, nutrition manager at Lipid Nutrition.
I was shopping for cayenne and found this review; I seem to recall a discussion or two about Raynaud's...

Quote:
I've taken two or three teaspoons of this organic cayenne powder a day, in about three or four ounces of warm water, for about a year and a half. I have Raynaud's disease and before I started taking the cayenne, my hands and feet were ALWAYS cold, even in the summer. A short time (I don't remember exactly how long it was) after starting taking the cayenne, I was shocked to realize my hands and feet were no longer cold. I don't even have to wear socks to bed in the winter, like I used to. Cayenne is great for circulation, as well as many other things.

My aunt swore by ginger tincture. She got my father some and he stopped complaining about cold feet. I like ginger tea, gives me a nice glow.

In winter, I tend to put cayenne in most of my cooking. 2-3 teaspoonfuls sounds a lot in one go though!! Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about when it's time for it to leave the body ....... !

I have ALWAYS craved spicy foods and put cayenne on a lot of things, ever since I was a kid. I have Raynaud's Disease (primary), and I'm a firm believer that my body tells me what it needs. I often crave liver near TOM when my iron is getting low, etc., so I think there's something to the cayenne. I use a lot of habanero sauce now, but I wonder if going back to regular cayenne would be better for me.

I think capsaicin is the active ingredient in hot peppers
(at least in regard to circulation and pain relief, not flavor),
and habanero has a higher content than cayenne.

What a good trophy - makes a nice photo and there's nothing to dust! Congratulations.

shepheka, there is a thread about pterostilbene.

I will agree with the comments about ginger, which tends to "warm me up". It's super good for you, and has been proven to reduce feelings of hunger and improve seratonin levels. One study showed it reduced inflammation, although another study was not conclusive about that.

I am so sad. I am trying to eliminate high fructose corn syrup from my life. I was reading the label on my beloved Bluebell ice cream and they still use high fructose corn syrup.

Guess I will be making my own ice cream this summer whern I have extra goat milk. BUT I LOVE MY BLUEBELL. Sure wish they would come up with a new recipe.

First diet coke, Now Bluebell ice cream?? Oh Adi I agree, Bluebell IS good! Have you ever tried the blackberry cobbler?? Omg to DIE for!
If you are going to make homemade though, with your own goats milk, that sounds wonderful!

Write to Bluebell and ask them to take HFCS out of their products!

I saw a yogurt commercial the other day--Yoplait or Dannon, maybe--and they said they removed HFCS because of customer requests.
