I've been having some stomach/IBS issues and wanted to buy some probiotics but the ones the chemist was pushing me to buy were soooo expensive, and I just ended up only buying the L-Glutamine which I had been meaning to buy. I'm so glad because I've just found out Glutamine supposedly also helps IBS, leaky gut syndrome, boosts the immune system as well as the appetite suppression. Sounds like an all round good amino acid to supplement with. I'm looking forward to seeing if this will help with the AS on UDs.

Good Morning!

Up at 4:15 and first cup of coffee is down! I'm heading to boot camp in a little while. Today is my 2nd UD in a row. I'm a little nervous, but I'm going to trust the plan. I needed to change my rotation to accommodate an event this weekend, so that's why I'm having the 2 UD's.

I'm in a weight loss challenge at boot camp till the end of March. I'll be glad when it's over and I can relax and enjoy JUDDD. I don't really care if I win the challenge, but I still feel pressure to do well. I just know I'm going to love this woe and enjoy the journey....at my own pace!

I'll check in on you all later....if I live thru boot camp!

I have heard very good things about l-glut and the gut. It helps heal the gut. I personally use it for the sugar cravings, but know about the other benefits as well. I have some very good, very expensive probiotics but use them sparingly or when I am on anti-biotics. I save them for when I REALLY REALLY need them as I cannot afford them on a daily basis, "just because". So I know what you mean about the price of some crazy!!

Thyroid adjustments are so frustrating, but a necessary evil. It took almost a year for me to get regulated, and even now, I'm not completely optimized, but oh so much better than I was a year ago. I'm within range now and feel human again, almost even well. You'll get there, but it's a pain to deal with, I know!

I just met with a professor (from our univ.) who is also the president of the local public library's "friends of the library" group. I had contacted him to see about joining and volunteering, to add to my resume as "community service". I really enjoyed talking to him and also found out that there is an opening on the board that I may be able to fill! That will really look good on my portfolio. He was awfully cute too, and no wedding ring.

Stacy, I take armour thyroid, it has both t3 and t4. But I don't have a thyroid, so there is no thyroid hormone in my system at all, which I think helps with my dose being correct continually. However, it took years to get the dose right. Are you taking both t3 and t4?

Are they dosing based on just TSH, or did they run your Free T3 and Free T4 as well? I'm pretty stable on just Synthroid, but have been offered T3 based on my labs and symptoms. I just don't feel bad enough right now to add yet another medication. I understand you can develop conversion issues, even after being stable for many years, depending on your condition, and all the levothyroxine in the world won't work well if your body can't convert it.

After 2 UD's in a row, I'm SO ready for a DD tomorrow. I stayed within my calories today, but too many of them were from sweets. Blech! This week and next I'm having to have back to back UD's to accommodate social things. I'm looking forward to the time when I can string a couple weeks of alternate days together.

Have my DD food all planned for tomorrow. Hope you've all had a great Thursday!

They actual do all and also did a cortisol test the last time they did labs, which is why i actually switched docs as the last one wasnt running all these for me and kept acting like i was fine..i know my body and i wasnt/am not fine

I'm having a DD Friday and I'm looking forward to it too. I had 2 UD's in a row and blech....I ate the wrong types of food and am not feeling great. Dang thin mint girl scout cookies!

I'm thinking about trying to have lo carb UD's, but am wondering if I'll have trouble getting enough calories? This is only the end of my first week, so I'll get this all figured out sooner or later. There is so much good information on this site.

Let's make it a good Friday!

Lori

The science of how JUDDD works can be a bit confusing as it is a little against the conventional, mainstream thinking.
In a bit of a nutshell:
When you fast, your body starts to activate genes to produce proteins calls sirtuins (or we talk about the SIRT gene - same thing basically). These proteins do a lot of things - they scavenge up old dirty cells, reduce inflammation, break down visceral (intra-abdominal) fat, repair collegen (younger skin!) etc. They also will, after time, suppress appetite & cravings, increase energy, etc. The body thinks, "We're in this for the long haul, so we'd best clean house before we buckle down!"
So, after about 36-40 hours of fasting, the SIRT gene turns off and the body starts catabolizing muscle and packing in calories --> the dreaded starvation mode! It does all the things we fear: hoarding calories, storing fat, slowing the metabolism.
The point of the UD/DD rotation is to allow there to be a long enough fast to activate the SIRT gene and get the sirtuin proteins flowing but then eat enough on your UDs to "rescue" your body from starvation mode. It keeps your body from having the metabolism slow down and all the negatives from starvation mode. Then, on your next DD you start all over again with a fresh, new fast. And a fresh, new activation of the SIRT gene and all the lovely benefits that come with it!!
2 DDs in a row will put you into starvation mode. 2 UDs in a row will put you over your calorie allotment for the day/week BUT that can rev your metabolism. You might not lose, you might stall, but you're not going to go into starvation mode - a rotten state from which it is hard to recover!!!
Trust the JUDDD magic!

This was an awesome post. Such a great explanation. Huge thank you!

Today is a DD and finally after battling a two week cold I am feeling better and heading back to the gym tonight. This week was a bit rough with it being my birthday week and all the celebrating. Luckily, tomorrow is the last of the celebrating and a UD so I'm saving my calories for tomorrow. Fasting Friday it is. Woo hoo! Have a great day all.
