I have read here and there people talking about cooking radishes. What is this of which you speak? :D I hate searching because it brings up *everything* and as far as I know, there's no thread with "radishes" in the title. So, how do you cook them and make them the tastiest for low calories?

I have about 1.5 cups of radishes that I've had for about 3 wks. the green parts have gone slimey and I pulled it all off and washed them, and the red parts are firm. Although we didn't grow radishes, that I remember, growing up, I think firm veggies equal not rotten veggies. :) Don't you think they are fine to eat?

Cindy, I think they are fine if they are crisp when cut. Washing well should rid of the spoiled stem. I think the fried radishes would be as simple as adding whatever spices you love the most. I would saute onion & bell pepper with radishes. :yummy:

I have watermelon radishes.

Would you boil them first, sunday, or steam to soften before frying? I think I'll try that with a piece of bacon and onions. :) MMMMmmm

I wouldn't boil first, but just fry up just like taters. :love: Bacon should give it the perfect season.

Cooked them and they were delish! 1/2 piece of bacon rendered just enough fat. :)

I bought radishes today too:) for the first time ever. I think I may eat raw and toss them up in a salad, and then I also may roast some in the oven with a little black pepper and squeeze of lemon and a sprinkle of garlic? Idk just trying to be creative lol

Some people have said they boil radishes in soup. I tried that once and hated it (and I've barely eaten any potatoes in years; was looking forward to a substitute)! But fried radishes...I might have to try that!

I have never in my life cooked radishes. Learn something new every day although I am not a radish fan anyway.

I fried some French breakfast radishes a few months ago with just a little onion and no oil (it was a DD) and they were delicious! Now I need to go pick up more radishes!

Anyone know if Daikon fries well? I'm heading to yet another Asian market today (my hairdresser told me about this one) and thought about picking up some daikon.

If radish is good fried (grated like hash browns), daikon would at least be easier to grate, because of its shape and size!

I just Googled it and it looks like it is sometimes included in stir-fries.
There are also many recipes for fried daikon cakes...sounds interesting!

I use daikon in soups because I get it CHEAP at an Asian market. I tried to make hash browns with it before and it didn't turn out at all...but then again I didn't use any oil.

I like boiled in some water, till soft to sharp knife tip. Drain, add 1tsp butter, salt, pepper, wee pinch garlic powder, chives (dry is fine).

I want to find black radishes , there's a dish where you grate them, marinate in oil and spices...delish!
