UD Thursday - counting to make it count

Hola!

So, I guess I peed myself slimmer yesterday ;) and I have a much sunnier outlook today (I was NOT pleasant to be around yesterday). I got a ton of support here, and then my brilliant DH basically said all the same things (after I yelled at him for stuff that wasn't his fault... :p )

Anyhoo-- the go-forward plan is to reign in my carbs a bit, count everything, even if I'm hungry and eat more, but don't eat more unless I'm actually burning with hunger (which I imagine, with lower carbs, won't happen..ya know?)

Ok, haven't eaten yet, so here's the plan for today:

B: depending when this happens-- either eggs and bacon, or salad with some veggie burgers that are hanging around my fridge.

L: see above. if B/L is late, then maybe I'll snack on some carrots later. I could also have a couple slices of cheese (which I plan to fry up till they are crisp/chewy)

D: planning on salmon, steamed broccoli with some butter. 3 pieces of very dark chocolate (170).

I've already put everything into my calculator, but if I skip some food, I'll repost later :)
S.

Good morning, soren. Happy to hear you have such a pleasant attitude after surprise slimming! JUDDD is cool!

My dd was successful yesterday. (I'm in maintenance, so my dd was 750 calories.) I think sometimes maintainers need to wave :hiya: at all friends here and say, "Look, one of these days you'll be having 750-calorie down days! It's worth it!" :hugs:

Today I've already had breakfast of Jay Robb protein powder blended with fruits and coconut milk for a 232 calorie smoothie.

I have a hot dog in my sights for lunch :) with wholegrain bun. Will add some healthy veggie sticks to that.

Thought I was sure of supper, but now that I think of it, should ask dh. Hmmm... either grilled chicken breasts or turkey burgers, probably, and asparagus with either. Ooooo, but salmon sounds good, soren! I do have some in the freezer... ...

LoCarbGal 02-21-2013 07:30 AM

Hi Soren and Whitlin'! I'm with you today. Trying real hard to make the rest of February count.

B: Coffee w/HWC, 3 eggs fried in butter
L: Salami and cheese w/mustard, maybe a pickle or two
D: Meatloaf, roasted asparagus with melted butter, wine
D: I might allow myself a Russell Stovers chocolate covered marshmallow egg

It definitely is motivating to see a maintenance level DD, Whitlin'! I love it when JUDDDers at all levels and progress post. There's so much to learn and gain perspective from, from everyone here. Thanks!

KeirasMom 02-21-2013 08:23 AM

Same menu as yesterday's UD

B: Everything bagel, light cream cheese, coffee
L: Banh Mi
D: No idea yet
Wine: yup

b_lou_who 02-21-2013 08:38 AM

b mug of clear soup with egg poached in it, super delicious organic ORANGE
l lentils and a really lovely organic APPLE
d ham, bean, kale soup... soaked beans yesterday, cooked them overnight, added ham bone this morning to get bone broth along with couple handfuls of CARROT. will carmelize ONIONS to throw in after work, wilt the KALE. NOM

In case you wonder at the CAPS for PRODUCE, stephdray started a thread about making sure every meal has produce and I hopped in with a decision to put my produce in CAPS in my menus to make it front of mind for myself and a visible reminder to all.
Maybe people could start doing that more to keep it obvious so we don't leave out the critical fresh fruits and veg.
Soren, there are tubs of organic baby kales in most salad sections now that are awesome in place of lettuces, very tender and easy to add to a soup, wrap, omelet or whatever. Kale is a crazy-good-for-you super food.

sorenkkg 02-21-2013 08:52 AM

Thanks Whitlin! I do look forward to one day having higher DDs (but of course, as I lose weight, there will be lower DDs... hopefully I won't be as hungry then).

LCG-- ooooh, asparagus. Do you ever grill it? it's awesome grilled (a little olive oil, s/p, and get it charred... drool).

Dawn-- I ate my homemade "wendy's chili" yesterday, and again just now (my bacon was fuzzy :( so I switched plans already)... YUM!!!

Blou-- I do love kale, roasted in the oven. Also, I made some great collards over the holidays, with bacon and red peppers and onions... will have to do that again. Greens are definitely YUM!!! :yummy:

:)

LoCarbGal 02-21-2013 09:05 AM

Soren, I've never grilled it, but it sounds really good! I'll have to try that next time I grill steaks. Yum yum yum!

hot-in-texas 02-21-2013 09:13 AM

Good morning everyone. Soren, congrats on your scale drop!
I have not planned my day yet. I have come to realize that I am the worst grocery shopper, no matter how much planning i put into my list, I don't actuall very often have stuff that go together to make a meal. Think I need to make another pot of Wendy's chili...

Flutter 02-21-2013 09:49 AM

Soren, awesome on the good scale report! Woohoo!

Hi everyone!

B: coffee w/ sf creamer (60)
L: Wendy's cheeseburger, 1/2 fries, 1 square dark chocolate caramel (846)
Clueless on dinner. I have a crazy afternoon & evening. We'll see, I guess. I know how many calories I have left. :)

Luv2Eat 02-21-2013 01:02 PM

Yum, creamed KALE with bacon and ONION sounds delish! Putting on the grocery list. . . .

B: Coffee/Oatmeal
S: Cereal
L: not sure -maybe fry the leftover POTATO's?
D: not sure - have a PINEAPPLE that needs to be eaten, will cut that up tonight.
S: Chocolate, always - have some almond milk gluc pudding in the fridge, will eat that instead of the chocolate bars I've been indulging UUAD's with.

Not much protein here, might have a hot dog. Need to enter these things into the calculator. . . . .

hot-in-texas 02-21-2013 01:16 PM

the weirdest thing- I wasn't even hungry at lunch, and having to force down the food-which was deli roasted chicken, pickle, cheese.Could not even stomach the cheese. so, instead of calling this a win, and saving the calories for later tonight when I probably will be hungry, I decided to eat 450 calories of chocolate covered blueberries and 150 calories of mixed nuts.. Yes they were good, but I was not hungry.

Truffles 02-21-2013 02:21 PM

can someone direct me to the recipe for the "wendys" chili??

Dawn have you tried it?? and do you approve?? ;)

hot-in-texas 02-21-2013 02:51 PM

Truffles, I have a recipe that I made up that is a lot like Wendy's, and it is pretty good, but needs a little more spice. It is on the DD porn thread, toward the last page i would say. And then I think Soren added the copy cat Wendy's recipe to that thread, which is probably closer to Wendy's chili. I love it because I will make a big pot, freeze it, and it will last 1-2 months of DDs!

I have not tried it, as that would involve . . . cooking! :hyst: Others like it, though.

it's actually in this thread
http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/ju...s-only-34.html

sorenkkg 02-21-2013 03:58 PM

yep, post 1001 http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/ju...l#post16210443 is the one I got from copy cat (you can google wendy's chili recipe and it's one of the first that comes up...)

I weigh it out-- a large wendy's is 340g, so I actually measure that on my scale-- should be 310 calories.

I plugged the copy cat recipe into my mastercook program, and at 6 servings, it's more calories than that, so I just go by the weight of the chili and hope that it's pretty much on.

Flutter 02-21-2013 04:39 PM

I am eating ice cream. Mint chocolate chip ice cream. Yes, I measured it out. I love JUDDD.

1719 cals for today, so I'm just under. Crazy!

hot-in-texas 02-21-2013 04:44 PM

Flutter, we are going out the door to get some dirt and worms, I love juddd too:-)

sorenkkg 02-21-2013 04:46 PM

dirt is diatomaceous earth? worms? is that shirataki noodles?

hot-in-texas 02-21-2013 04:54 PM

I figured I'd have some 'splainin' to do with that one! It's frozen custard(but you could do pudding, ice cream or frozen yogurt) in a cup with crushed Oreo cookies on top(the dirt) and gummy worms sticking out of it! Lol
Did you really already know what it was lol?

D: Applebee's Zesty Roma chicken and shrimp (410)

I'm still going to have plenty of calories left over for an eclair if I so choose.

Keira loves those!

hot-in-texas 02-21-2013 05:00 PM

So do my 'kids', it's fun going up to the window and watching them(grown men lol) order dirt and worms. I love the gummy worms, the rest is just OK.

Flutter 02-21-2013 05:03 PM

I knew what you meant!!!

FUN on the gummy sundaes...and the eclair, too!

I must admit, what I REALLY wanted tonight was alcohol. Badly. However, DD had gymnastics and DS2 is still at a dance, so ice cream was my 2nd choice. ;) It was just one of those days. (teenagers, I'll leave it at that!)

sorenkkg 02-21-2013 05:23 PM

Ok, I think I'm done eating for the day. a very good UD I think-- totally within my calories, I feel pretty satisfied, had good variety, and the only thing is that I was higher on carbs than I would like... can't win them all.

B/L: a veggie burger with a slice of cheddar, sf ketchup and a squirt of avocado mayo, as well as 500 g of "wendy's chili"

snacks: 6oz baby carrots with a sprinkle of popcorn seasoning on it
later, a deli pop with 1 triangle laughing cow lite, and some salsa

D: 1 serving butternut squash soup
14oz pan seared salmon fillets
touch of butter/wine sauce
1 bag of steam-in-bag broccoli (100 cal), with some butter on it.

1 serving (3/4c) fat free greek yogurt, with 2T pear butter (like double fruit) and 1T buckwheat honey

AND, as though that weren't awesome enough (and omg, it was awesome)... a milk chocolate bar for 220 cal...

2148 of my potential 2200 calories :)

I am going into tomorrow PREPARED, yo!

Now, I'm wondering if I can bulk up on veggies tomorrow, and get more fullness for my 440cal? will contemplate tonight

(can you tell I'm having some JUDDD energy today? :jumpjoy: )

S.

melisa82 02-21-2013 08:15 PM

B: Green Goddess Juice, Larabar, Medjool Dates
L: 5sm Potatoes, Kiwi, Almond Butter, Honey, Slice of Cantaloupe
D: Oven Roasted Sweet Potatoes and Fried Potatoes

LiLi914 02-21-2013 08:54 PM

Second UD that I just wasn't all that hungry. Of course work was crazy and I kept making myself stop and eat something light in order to get something in my system. I usually wouldn't do that and would end up eating a huge late dinner. Still managed to come close to my UD calories. Who would have thought I'd be looking forward to the DD's? Day 7 is tomorrow so I've reached the halfway point of the induction phase.

sorenkkg 02-21-2013 09:02 PM

Good job lili!

Truffles 02-21-2013 10:58 PM

Tanks for the chili info!!!

And I love dirt too!!
