He is a veteran of so many low carb recipes gone wrong that he approaches everything with extreme wariness. Also? Aspics are weird looking. It's hard to convince somebody that a cold gelatinous savory tomato jello is worth eating :P

You've got this. It's just a matter of WHEN.
Aww, thank you! And you're an inspiration!

I really feel like, Steph got her act together, I can too. I was going to post a "I feel blah" post, but I'm going to hold off, put some of these same policies (?) into place that you have (was thinking of reducing carbs anyway) and I hope to see some positive (negative?) scale movement in a few days!

Thanks for keeping up with these updates Steph, with all you have going on, emotional turmoil, etc. It means a lot!

S.
Aww, Soren, you melt me. I would not say that I got my act together but I will say that I realized I don't really need to get my act all the way together. I just have to consistently try. Keep at it. Tomorrow is always another day.

Dieting is really hard long term. You just get sick of it. You want to not pay attention to all this. But I think if we accept that this can be done in bursts--that it doesn't have to be done in perfect long stretches of compliance--it's better on the psyche.

That said, tonight I was, again, 400 calories over my up day limit. But I reigned in the carbs and I did some clever things with food today that kept it from being a disaster. I have been really digging these new Gardein meat substitutes and I'm not even a vegetarian. The mandarin orange crispy chicken is so good that I'm happy to eat it on an up day for lunch, and I'm picky on my up days!

For lunch today I made a lemon-wine-butter-caper sauce and served it over two Gardein chicken cutlets on a bed of stir fried arugula. The whole generous dish came to under 500 calories and I was delighted. So, see if there are things that taste good to you even on an up day that can help tame the savage beast, maybe?

I'd forgotten all about using gluc powder to make LC foods! Can you (or someone else ) tell me how to make gluc jello please?
Thank you thank you.

Here's my current recipe for Gluc Gel--which is like jello but not as jiggly

1 tbps Gluc Powder
1/3 C Erythritol or powdered sweetener of your choice
1 packet unsweetened Kool-Aid, your favorite flavor (I like cherry)
2 Cups Boiling Water
Splenda Drops to Taste

1. Mix all the powdered ingredients together in a saucepan. This keeps the Gluc powder from lumping.
2. Add 2 Cups boiling water to the powder in the sauce pan and mix madly with a wooden spoon
3. Sweeten to taste using liquid drops to heighten sweetness
4. Pour into dessert cups and refrigerate for at least an hour

It's a zero calorie life saver because the fiber is quite filling.

Lately I have been experimenting by adding a packet of Knox unflavored gelatin to the mix to make it more like jiggly jello. This adds 25 calories to the recipe but might be worth it. At least until I get hold of some lime or citric acid.

funny, I looked at the chilled meat substitutes today when I was getting shirataki.

You are right, and after I totally got on dh's case for no good reason , we talked about perfection and control...

Now I've planned out a lower carb day for tomorrow, and it includes cheese, and chocolate (super dark) and actually, arugula!

Steph! Thanks chica!

Steph, I had the exact same decision that you did for allowing one non-count UD per week! I simply needed it and it seemed to trick me into being resolute the remainder of the week.

Six lbs is one crazy WHOOSH!!!

These are words of wisdom, and isn't this so much easier on JUDDD? On low carb, if you give in one day and have a piece of cake, you've knocked yourself out of ketosis. On most other plans, it's pretty hard to recover from a "free day" ... and/or part of your brain says, I LIKED that free day and I don't want to go back to my strict plan of deprivation. My favorite thing about JUDDD is that you don't have to be perfect to be successful .... just pick up where you left off and keep going.

Wow. I did it. That was my mini-goal. I haven't been this weight since law school, when I despaired of seeing it on the scale. But now I'm jubilant. The last ten pounds of this came off much more slowly during the holidays, my book deadline, and enormous family stress. But it came off!

Yay Steph, that's such an awesome loss! Congratulations on getting there, and as always thank you for sharing all you learn on the journey.

I feel like I'm in a stall, and I can totally relate to you on UD's. I like the idea of one out of control UUAD and the rest being counted. Counting calories on UD's is not something I've done, but something I am going to need to start doing.

Deedee, it works better if you count. I just don't always do it.
