Hi again! So, for a quick recap- since I left you all in December, I embarked on my "mcdougalling" journey. I ate very strictly on plan for the first month, but I got super fatigued. Honestly, it was the opposite from my JUDD journey where I had crazy energy but sever insomnia. With mcdougalling I had NO energy and I slept like a rock. Honestly I was shocked over the power of food on my body. I couldn't believe I had to choose between staying on plan or having normal energy again. So after a little soul searching my compromise was upping the fat content of my diet. Now I cook with small amounts of oil and eat nuts and seeds regularly. Since then, I have felt a lot better. Also, I recently added egg whites to my diet and feel pretty invigorated.
So, in a nutshell: 1) I drink water like it is going out of style 2) I eat whole foods (little to no processed foods in any given day) 3) I make 50-75% of my plate vegetables 4) *I stay away from flour and dairy products 5) I stay away from refined oils as much as possible (choosing whole intact healthy fats like avocado) 6) I use lean meat as a “condiment” (a little just for flavor) 7) I eat plenty of starches (potatoes, corn, rice, ect) 8) I eat beans, legumes, nuts, and seeds sparingly 9) I eat fruit in moderation (I choose melon and berries over other fruits) 10) I eat my TDEE -20% *This is a personal health reason for me. I have gluten and lactose sensitivities. I have nothing against JUDD and would honestly continue if it did not come with the crazy insomnia. However, my body is a finicky creature apparently. Hope this helps! |

Glad you checked in with us, so interesting how your body responds so delicately to diet changes. I hear ya about the insomnia - get that sometimes with JUDDD but manage to go back to sleep.
TT, you've done great, congratulations!! |

Wonderful! I thought about switching to McDougall before PHD. I eat this way, except that I do allow fat.
