Ballerina tea "timing"
Hi dearies!
I know a few of you have tried the ballerina tea. Before I give it a go, I'd like your input on a few things so I don't have any "timing" issues! Do you just use one bag to get a result? When I drink tea for pleasure, I usually double or triple bag it because I like a strong flavor. I know this stuff is different....just wondering if one bag will do the deed? How long til it starts working? How long does the effect last? Tnank you so much! Your replies will definitely help me plan! |

This is not regular tea- it is a laxative. I used 1 bag and the next day was not fun. This would be a last resort for me. I had not gone in 5 days, but I doubt I will ever use it again unless I go a week or more with constipation.

Eat 2 prunes a night and start taking a magnesium supplement every day and you will get some relief that's not so explosive.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, ladies!
I actually have never been constipated in my life. This tea was suggested to me to help with a totally different issue. The laxative effect would be considered a side effect, really, so I wanted to know what to expect as far as timing and amount....so I'm not looking for a different method to help me "go." |

According to Carly, one bag was more than enough and the next day was "uncomfortable". YMMV.
ETA: I know you said you were not using it for constipation, but if it's for another use, I don't know of the amount. More than a bag may have more of a side effect than you would want. Last edited by Librarygirl; 02-18-2013 at 05:04 PM.. |

I'm not sure what it was recommended for, but one tea bag and you can expect to need to be in the bathroom a whole lot and really quickly for several hours after you wake up. I drank mine around 6pm the evening before. I'm thinking the laxative effect will be even worse if not constipated. I was really needing the tea, but it was stronger than expected. I think poor Dawn had it worse than me. I think she was up all night with cramps and the runs. YMMV, but if you have to work tomorrow I would proceed with caution. I took mine on a Saturday night and very glad that I did not have anything to do on Sunday!

I have nothing to add, as I've never taken this tea before. However, reading this reminds me of when I was pregnant and reading those boards. All the ladies near their due dates were taking ridiculous doses of castor oil to try to induce labor and pretty much only ended up with the same side effects!
Course, after my son was born, due to some severe complications and asinine doses of narcotics, I did not go for almost 3 weeks. A state of things I highly recommend no one else experience. My Dr just kept saying "give it time" - had I known about ballerina tea back then I would not have cared how long I was in the bathroom, as long as I went!!! (Sometimes I just need to keep these thoughts to myself.)

When I had my spine surgery, read a week on self administered morphine, I didn't go forever. In the hospital they gave me a suppository and then poor DW had to give me a few more due to the narcotic pain killers I was subsisting on for the first month. That is something I never want a rerun of. The surgery or the after math. I wonder what else ballerina tea can do....

I had this tea years ago due to chronic constipation.
be very careful, it's very strong laxative. But it does work as I remember. Make the tea very weak! I use the Natures calm when need big help, and magnesium when I remember- dah me. |

The one time I tried it, as Carly mentioned, I was absolutely miserable. I drank it before bed and had cramps all night. I kept rushing to the bathroom thinking I was going to be "productive" but nothing happened until the following morning. Just severe stomach and intestinal pain. I will never use it again.
