Chocolate-Making Class w/a pic for Soren
 

If you read the UD thread yesterday you may have seen that I was saving my calories for a Valentine's chocolate class I'd won from the local paper and the Peppermill Casino in Reno. We learned that the pastry kitchen at the Peppermill is the largest in the west, bigger than any in Las Vegas, which surprised me. We got to taste a variety of Valrhona chocolates. One was very rare and the chef had the only 5 pounds of it in the US. YUM!

Soren had asked for pics.

We were given one of these chocolate boxes to fill with truffles we made during the class. And a cake box to put it in. It sat in a corner of the huge box. We were then encouraged to fill the box with the things we'd worked on during the class. Candy bars, truffles, salted chocolate tiles, truffle pops. They might not have been pretty, but they were definitely delicious.

A worthwhile use of UD calories.

No, the stuff we made was definitely not this pretty, although he showed us how to make the curly swirly white and pink chocolate "ribbon" decoration. These were setting out on a rack on the end of the counter we were working on. I assumed they were for Valentine's Day, perhaps a special way of serving truffles in their upscale restaurant or available for purchase in the pastry shop. When I asked one of the assistants if they were for tomorrow, she gave me a funny look, so I said "Valentine's Day" and she laughed. She'd completely forgotten it was the next day - just another chocolate day for her. Then she told us they were for us! :love:

If I hadn't given up sugar for lent, I would be eating my screen right now.

So jealous, I would love to take a class like this and I am not that big of a chocolate person.

They were empty. We were encouraged to fill them with the truffles we'd made -- and we did!

BTW, the truffles and the box are both gone now. I brought them to friends where we were going for dinner. We ate the truffles, and broke the box apart to eat as well. Lovely dark chocolate, so as good as they looked.
