Valentine's Day...What are your plans?

I had two UD's on the weekend and by a happy coincidence, Vday will be a UD! I went to the grocery store last night and bought two nice rib-eyes (on sale!) to cook for dinner tomorrow night...Might pick up a nice dessert (cheesecake is bf's favorite) tomorrow too. I bought a card for him yesterday too, and two Transformer toys. (he likes them, lol)

What romantic plans are you cooking up?

We don't do vday around our house. Too entirely commercial for our tastes.
Is that completely unromantic? Hubs and I have been together for 28 years and it just never appealed to either of us to have a day devoted to spending money to prove our love.

We'll probably do Valentine's day tonight. Keira's daycare is doing a "parents' night out" tonight so they'll keep her until 9:00. We usually just go out for dinner, but DH can hardly eat after his WLS, so maybe we'll just stay home.

Nothing for V-day. DH & I normally do a "date night" for any special occassions, but it's usually whatever Friday or Saturday evening works with our schedule. Since DD is sick this week, maaaaaaaaaybe we'll be able to go out on Saturday night for dinner/drinks. (that'll be UD, too!) It depends on DD. I can normally count on at least 1 of my teenagers to babysit.

I don't have anybody to be romantic with, but my son's thinking about taking his girlfriend to a movie. And *very* coincidentally, the theater happens to be showing a Carlos Saura flamenco movie!!!

So strange...I live in a very rural/unsophisticated area;
this theater only has 3 screens, and usually only shows blockbuster-type films...
so I was quite shocked that it's playing something so artsy!!!

DS & his GF might see a different movie, but I'm hoping they don't change their plans and I get to see this one!

We don't usually do anything for V day. We do have a church dinner next Saturday which is a sweethearts themed event and we're going to that, but it's being put on by the senior high youth group and my dh is a leader, so we're working it (still not sure how I got roped into helping lol). We do have reservations towards the end, so I'll be going all dressed up and wearing my tennis shoes Then I'll change shoes when it's our turn to eat The food is always amazing (prime rib etc) and some people get really dressed up-it's a lot of fun!

I don't believe in spending lots of money for Vday either. I bought a card for $1.00, and his "present" was $6.00. The ribeyes were reduced from 17.00 to 11.00, and I spoke to the meat manager and he reduced them further to 7.00. Can't beat that!!

I am single as well PJ. So Valentines will be just another day for me But if any of the Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks type movies are on TV, I might watch one. Probably buy some chocolate candy for the kiddos. It happens to be a DD for me.
Or maybe I will meet my true love while shopping for the chocolates, who knows?

I watched ATWT, loved it! Many years I watched!

I got Dh a Bar10der 10 in one bar tending gadget (he will LOVE it) and a Fab 5 framed art from Memorylane . I think he will enjoy both. I think the plans are to eat small all day and splurge on pizza, wine and chocolate covered strawberries with our son tomorrow night!!!!!

I am going to a wedding where DD will be a bridesmaid. Leaving DH at home.

Will get home around 6 and will then be packing to fly to Istanbul early the next morning.

He will get a card and a bowl of soup!

According to Steve Harvey, us women aren't supposed to buy or do anything for our husbands/SO's for Heart Day. He says its all about the man spoiling his lady.

Well personally I don't agree with that either. LOL I'm with those who think its all about commercialism and the only thing I do is send some family and friends Valentine cards in the mail. One year I even made them myself out of the white paper doily things and different colored papers, like we did in grade school...lol

Our anniversary is later this month and my birthday is next month so Vday kinda gets ignored around here and its no big deal to me. We like to save all the $$$ we can for travel, so skipping a $50 bouquet or whatever is nice to add to the fund.

Tomorrow is an UD, but no plans yet that I know of. We hate how everywhere has a price fixed menu since it's never what we want. Maybe Saturday night. I don't enjoy going out on work nights as much.

Ah, a safe place to talk about this - I'm on the potato hack, so I don't want to stray too far...I heard pad thai is made with rice noodles, and with rice being a somewhat acceptable distant option to potatos on the hack, that is where I will go for dinner.

Also, my daughter is down this week, so I am meeting her for lunch tomorrow at college to bring her a valentine and some chocolates. I hope to have indian food or sushi or something along those lines there.

No big plans. I have to leave for work with the peanut at 7:45am and get off around 4-5pm (depending on the day). The peanut has swim at 6:30pm. Hubs leaves for work at 2:45pm and doesn't get home until after midnight so our V-Day will consist of him being partially awake and fully crabby at 7am when my alarm goes off.
I got him a subscription to a home brewing magazine. He bought me some flowers from a road side stand. They're actually quite nice. We got a heart shaped take and bake pizza today. It was yummy.

My white knight is usually more romantic than I am on Valentine's Day, so this year, I'm going to surprise him by going all out. I arranged to have chocolates sent to his workplace--which is going to embarrass him, but he'll secretly love it. And I'm going to cook dinner for us both. And then I need to think of some other creative idea to do at night other than sit in front of the TV watching Netflix--I think we might make some plans for a dates throughout the year that we want to have and put them on our calendars.

For dinner I'm going to make pan-fried scallops, shrimp scampi, and a rib-eye steak that I'll cut in half. My instinct is to serve it with asparagus and angel hair pasta, but I am open to more adventurous ideas!

And as for dessert, I'm still without a clue.

Since you're so romantic, you could write little notes on pretty paper and put them in a glass jar...each can pull out one and find out what surprise they have in store (like, a massage, a movie, dinner at a restaurant...)...to be filled at a later date.

Oops you didn't ask for that kind of idea. As for side dishes, I'm serving roasted brussel sprouts with olive oil and sea salt. Not very romantic, but we like them, lol.

Sher, I was a DOOL girl. And since I worked, the boss would have it on in the break room for the whole gang.

And Love Story, that was the very 1st boo-hoo movie except for maybe Bambi or Old Yeller. I remember I asked for the book and would read it and cry all the way through.

I don't have V-day plans, but have hinted that a spotless, "white glove" clean house would make me happier than any roses or chocolates.
