A Newbie Question
Hiya
I started JUDDDing this week and so far, I've been really enjoying it and havent found my DD too hard. I have a question re when the DD start/end and when an UD begins... I read about there having to be a 24hr period for each UD/DD but I'm a bit confused about this! For example, Thursday was an UD and I finished eating at 9pm. Yesterday was a DD and I finished my dinner at 6pm, using all my 500cals. Should I have waited until 9pm to eat my dinner so that there is a strict 24hr period or does it not matter? Like this morning, I got up at 6am and had a banana and some nuts at 7am. This means I've only been without food for 13hrs. Does this matter? Or does JUDDD work on a day to day basis? I.e start and finish when you get up and go to bed? I'm so confused about this! I hope you understand what I mean... ![]() |

The DD actually works out closer to 36 hours. Think of it this way: You eat your UD dinner at 7:00 p.m., for example, then consume your 500 calories on your DD (whenever you want them--time doesn't matter), then you eat your NEXT UD breakfast at 7:00 a.m. That's 36 hours between UD eating.
I'm not sure if I'm making it clear. We tend to make things more complicated than they need to be. Just eat your UD calories in your waking hours, your DD calories in your waking hours, then repeat. It roughly comes to 36 hours of fasting.

Good explanation, Dawn. I'll only add that we're still considered to be fasting on the whole DD. I know it's hard to think of it that way, because we do eat 500 or lower calories, but that level is thought to still be in the "fasting window". So consider your fast to start when you finish your UD eating, and end when you start your next UD eating. Approximatly 36 hours.

If I stop eating at 8 pm on a UD, that means I can't eat breakfast on my next UD until 8 am...36 hours.

True, I try to actually skip breakfast on the morning of my UD to save my calories, and also because I can't eat within 2 hours of my morning medication, and I never wake up early enough to take it 2 hours before I have to leave for work, but I am sure if you are a breakfast eater and have to eat before the 36 hour window, you will still be successful on JUDDD. If you want to adhere to the 36 hour window, just eat your UD last food 36 hours before your next UD breakfast.

Yes, I usually finish eating on and UD at 9:30pm. Then go all DD on under 200calories. I may have coffee with half and half in the morning, but frequently don't eat until after 1pm on my next UD. Even more frequently I don't eat till 7pm on my UD, minus cream in coffee.
There have been UDs when I woke up and I was super hungry so I ate breakfast a 7am and it didn't seem to matter that the last UD ended at 9:30pm. |

I agree about keeping it simple! Now that I'm back on track (had a tough time conquering cravings after the holidays and then some family birthday bashes
) I try to wait as long as I can to eat on DDs. I start out with coffee and half and half or hot green tea. An hour or two later I've been having FF hot cocoa with 2 tsp coconut oil. Really kills my appetite. Trying to get in 80-90 ounces of water per day. Then I just practice "delayed gratification" until I'm really hungry. On UDs I try also to not wake up the hunger monster. I like to have a light meal mid-afternoon on UDs. Then have dinner with hubby without much restriction and sometimes wine. Anyway, simple. Eat at or below your DD calculation whenever it works for you and the next day eat at or close to UD calories whenever it works for you. ![]()
