For anyone needing encouragement...
I read and read some more of all my dear Juddd buds posts, and it seems we all need some bucking up on the down days that are more about mood than about calorie intake. So here are some thoughts to help at those moments when it's all just a bit too much and road's just too rocky...
No baby is born who doesn't deserve complete unconditional love...love that's not based on performance, or appearance, or the number on a scale. That includes the ones curled up in our own centers, like the tiniest of a set of russian nesting dolls. If you can't imagine loving who you are now, imagine loving that younger you; it's ever so much harder to beat up a baby in the ways we beat on and judge ourselves... Loving ourselves doesn't mean we don't strive to achieve whatever our goals are; it means we can dependably rely on ourselves for support and encouragement as we try and try and try again. And also that we don't put off loving and approving of ourselves until after we've achieved what we set out to do. Because once you start down that road, you never, ever arrive at the happiness you thought you'd get. "I'll be happy when" ends up being you're never happy at all...or not for any longer than it takes for the temporary ceasefire in self-judgment to wear off... So far I'm down 75 pounds. I am not one bit happier than I was when I started, and the only thing changed is that my knees are happier--a good thing, and the reason I started in the first place--and clothes shopping offers more variety. Losing weight won't make you a happy person, if you haven't figured out how to be happy already. Controlling what we eat doesn't mean we can control our knee-jerk emotional responses and habits of thinking. From the way losing weight is portrayed in the media, you'd think the heavens will open when you are thin, magically dousing you in loving partners, career success, and expensive clothes in exotic locations in which you cavort with said partners in a neverending mardi gras that is your new thin life. Is it any wonder we fall finto the "I'll be happy when..." trap, hook line and sinker? Here's what I know: don't put off happiness; don't put off smiling at yourself in the mirror and inhabiting your flesh with peace and pride. Life's just too damn short.... ![]() ![]() --patty |

What a lovely post; thank you. I really like the image of our small selves, curled up inside us like the smallest of Russian nesting dolls, and deserving of our compassion and kindness, every day.
