I found it very important to stay within both ranges. Lots of people start, like you, feeling like up day calories were way too high. I was like this too. Then it shifts for a lot of people and they find that DDs are easy and UDs can get away from them. I'm one of those, too.

JUDDD is forgiving, but it's best to do the plan as written. What I mean by it's forgiving is that if you mess up and overeat a little, or undereat a little, it'll still work, especially in the beginning, when you have more to lose. But as you get closer to goal, those numbers become really important. Or when you hit a stall.

2/2 ~ 190.0 ~ UD ~ 2000'ish? ~ Net ??? ~ Yesterday turned into a mid day when I had some chicken and rice at dinner when I was already done for the day, today is a new day!
2/3 ~ 189.8 ~ DD ~ 411 ~ Net -1872 ~ I'd saved about 1000 calories yesterday for going out to eat, ended up being chinese, ate alot, so who knows what my numbers were.. Today is a Coffee w/ HWC DD!
2/4 ~ 188.0 ~ UD ~ 2185 ~ Net -674 ~ Total Body Workout
2/5 ~ 190.0 ~ DD ~ 465 ~ Net -1819 ~ Hoping I wouldn't bounce that high...

January was a slow month...looking forward to a fabulous February! Goal: 218, exercise 5 days a week and reduce carbs.

2/1 - 227 - MD (Don't like to use an MD, but Superbowl just can't be a DD) - hip hop aerobics
2/2 - 224.9 - DD - 1 hour walk (with short stops to take photos and take in the views!)
2/3 - 223.4 - UD - That makes 50 pounds evicted!
2/4 - 225.1 - DD
2/5 - 223.3 - UD - glow aerobics
2/6 - 225.0 - DD - cardio kickboxing
2/7 - 223.5 - UD
2/8 - 225.5 - DD - hip hop aerobics
2/9 - 223.6 - UD - slightly disappointed the scale isn't moving, but I know it's the increased exercise, so ... keep calm and carry on!

Congratulations, Christina! 4 lbs in 8 is a huge move!

I've been spinning around 164 for a month! This "body adjustment" period is tough on the nerves! May be it's cut the carb time, I so love these though

Goal for Feb is below 160!

2/2 - 163.0 UD 1644 (- 818, New low)
2/3 - 163.0 DD 496 (- 982 )
2/4 - 162.4 UD 1435 (New Low)

Sher, you're so sweet ... thanks for looking on the bright side!

I'm only looking at my after-down-day weights, because I'm not really counting the normal 2-3 pounds difference between UD/DD. I ended Jan. after a down day at 224.4, so the scale is down .8 for 8 days. That's not a bad thing, but based on the difference in effort, calories, and exercise (and the fact that I essentially maintained for the month of January), I earned more . I know this is common with exercise . . . I think good things are happening internally, and the scale will eventually catch up.

I had a bad UD yesterday being the weekend - felt like throwing the towel in on JUDDD because I'm starting to see the UD as an eat everything day. I didn't bother counting calories in the end, I went way, way over. I almost started to get into that binge trance but thankfully it was mindless grazing.

Today is DD and I'm feeling better. I read somewhere, here or in his book, that you have to do at least 9 DD's to start feeling the benefits, so I'm going to try and stick it out until then (this is DD4). I'm addicted to waking up on the morning of an UD and feeling thin - it's the best feeling and is what keeps me going.

Have decided to use someone's idea here, sorry I can't remember who, to write down beforehand a plan of the UD and cross off as I go. TBH I have no idea what to eat on an UD. For me it needs to be minimal cooking so I'm not around food, so I need to plan more. It's crazy that the UD is harder than the DD...

What worries me is some of the vets here have said that the UD's get worse at time goes by

By the way I was reading the reviews of Dr J's book on Amazon. The first reviewer had been on it for a year, lost weight, maintained the loss and decided the diet didn't work for him... what the heck!!

I didn't bother counting calories in the end, I went way, way over. I almost started to get into that binge trance but thankfully it was mindless grazing.

Today is DD and I'm feeling better. I read somewhere, here or in his book, that you have to do at least 9 DD's to start feeling the benefits, so I'm going to try and stick it out until then (this is DD4). I'm addicted to waking up on the morning of an UD and feeling thin - it's the best feeling and is what keeps me going.

Have decided to use someone's idea here, sorry I can't remember who, to write down beforehand a plan of the UD and cross off as I go. TBH I have no idea what to eat on an UD. For me it needs to be minimal cooking so I'm not around food, so I need to plan more. It's crazy that the UD is harder than the DD...

What worries me is some of the vets here have said that the UD's get worse at time goes by

By the way I was reading the reviews of Dr J's book on Amazon. The first reviewer had been on it for a year, lost weight, maintained the loss and decided the diet didn't work for him... what the heck!!
Mojocat pop over to the February Newbie thread with this and I am sure will get a lot of input.

Not everyone finds their UDs get harder. and most learn to love their DDs. Try not to over think things just now. And planning ahead is such a great idea.

Monday will be start of week 3, and so far I am down 17 lbs (verified on the scale at the Dr's). I am only weighing once a week (ok, maybe twice!), and I lost 10 lbs the first week. I imagine it will slow down some, but I hope not! However, I am having a lot of edema in one leg/foot (hence the visit to the Dr's), so maybe I am down more!
