So Irritated!!!
I don't know if it's peri-menopause or what, but nearly everything gets on my damn nerves.
I went to the doctor this morning and walked out because I found him condescending...I have *never* done anything like that. I feel like I want to rip stupid people apart, and my poor bf bears the brunt of my wrath. Don't get me wrong, I don't walk around with a dark cloud over my head 24/7, but lately it takes very little to set me off. Where is the JUDDD calm?!!![]() ![]() |

Oh... sending hugs! Lot's of them. I don't know if it's perimenopause, but I know PMS can do viscious things to my attitude which is generally bright and even. Try not to despair- go hug DBF and let him know how your feeling. I know that helps me when I'm in one of those dark, negative spaces (well hugging my DW- not your BF, but you know what I mean).

Is this a down day for you? I find that low blood sugar on super low DDs makes me tired and irritable. I try to go to bed early and get the hard day over with sooner.

I experienced road rage at lunch today. I'm usually pretty even-tempered but I was angry, way more angry than the situation warranted. The only thing I could think of was today's the first day of TOM and he decided to come early. Normally TOM and I get along okay. Perhaps it's something in the air?!

Thanks, Carly. I do know that appetite suppressants are controversial, so I don't want opinions on that, please. I wanted the doctor to prescribe them for me, however, so I could take them moderately. He indicated that he didn't believe that I had been on a weight-loss regimen and that I basically wanted a presciption for drugs.
Now, on the way to the doctor's office I ran out of gas. I was fit to be tied, and bf had to run over to help...stupid gas station had all kinds of problems with their gas tanks and by the time I got there, I was livid. Then I had to wait for an hour, plus I haven't met my deductible and I would have to pay for the appointment in full. Needless to say, I wasn't "feeling" the good doctor. I said, "You have wasted my time, insulted me, and my insurance is not covering this visit." I was gathering my things and walking out of the door, and he said, "I'll make sure you're not charged." LOL, I said, Yes you do that!!!

Sounds like a normal reaction to me. I switched Dr's after an experience like this. It was difficult to find a new Dr as there is a shortage in our area but it was the best decision I have made regarding my health. My previous Dr felt my running was unhealthy and didn't support my choices which were well thought out especially since no one understands my difficulty in keeping my weight in check as well as I do. My new Dr understands me and respects my choices and it is wonderful to see her. Low carb does make me grumpy...

I hope you can find a good Dr, and a good fit for you. I personally have the best luck w/female doctors and especially D.O.s.
Sometimes I think my doctor thinks I'm a hypochondriac though. I was denied pain pills one time when I had to go to a clinic on a weekend. I was in such pain, and peed a whole cup full of blood(sorry that's gross) and he wouldn't prescribe me anything for pain. Turns out I had to have surgery for a huge kidney stone. I would have wanted to walk out if I were in your shoes today, but probably would have sat there like a dumb dumb nodding my head. What you did was better. |

I don't blame you for walking out. I'm here to tell you that there are good Drs and there are bad Drs...as someone said to me a long time ago: "Someone has to graduate last in their class in medical school." It is unbelievable to me the things that will come out of some medical professional's mouths! I love love love that you stood up for yourself because SO MANY patients won't - and this is why Drs continue to act this way.
I went through 3 pediatricians before I found one for my son I liked, then when we moved I had to start over again. I even took him to a specialist without a referral from his primary care because she would not give it to me. Not only was there actually something wrong with him (thankfully now completely resolved) but I changed doctors for him immediately! Sorry - a personal pet peeve of mine... I'm sorry you're feeling out of sorts LG, but I'm really glad you stood up for yourself. (((HUGS)))

He said, "They don't work and they are addictive and I've not had one patient, not ONE who followed the protocol." That's when I got up from the chair and realized that it was a complete waste of my time and his. I don't pay money to have a doctor tell me that a medical prescription is or is not right for me. I'm sure he writes prescriptions for countless drugs that have much more harm potential. Not only that, but within the first 5 minutes he was telling me to quit drinking caffeine and how to do it. I was looking at him like a deer in headlights, and I said, I'm not quitting drinking caffeine. Thanks for the lecture, and frank u very much.

Cindy, you do sound a bit "wired" TBH and appetite suppressants and caffeine also tend to make people wired.
Have you tried Relora? Apparently it suppresses appetite and invokes calm. Google it and see what you think. |

Thanks Flossy, I will google it. I have things going on beyond my control, seemingly, and frustration is a mild word to describe how I feel.
TBH, I didn't want to put this out here. I don't want to share negative things that happen to me only to be judged yet again. I regret it now, but I *know* I was at fault as much as the doctor and I shouldn't have even considered appetite suppressants. I am just weak. I am not doing well on this diet, and I don't know what to do. That is all. Last edited by Librarygirl; 01-31-2013 at 07:54 AM.. |

Librarygirl, no one's judging you.
You have a right to feel emotional or emotionless as you want to be. I understand your frustration and sympathise with you. At my last doctor appointment I asked for diet pills too and he refused, I felt defeated. Then I got down and dirty; I was more determined than ever and wanted it bad! I started walking twice a day. Then started IF and and still walking twice a day. Four months later I was down 33 pounds. I was more determined than ever and wanted it bad! You can do it too! Exercise has always made a huge difference for me with weight loss. When life hands me lemons, I drink lots of lemon water. I'm cheering for you and please know you are not alone. (((HUGS))) |

I hope you don't regret posting your feelings here as it is a very safe and positive place to work some things out. I found that a lot of my weight loss journey was figuring out and thinking about why I was struggling with weight gain. For me I had to stop being so hard on myself and accept that I have a strong genetic tendency to be heavier than I want. I had to learn to be a more positive best friend to me and also stop being so negative in my head. I had to ditch the idea that I would ever learn to stop using food as a reward and use it to my weight loss advantage (the reason JUDDD works for me on a psychological level). Posting on these threads helped me not only figure out how to follow JUDDD and how to find filling food choices for my DD but also helped me to change some of my thinking to become more successful. I am mentioning what I have had to figure out to let you know that you are not alone in your struggles. it is hard especially when our bodies are not cooperating. I think we all have different things we are sorting out in our weight loss journeys and it is an important part of the process. I am sure you are not weak. I think you just haven't sorted it all out yet.

I see nothing wrong with appetite suppressants if it fits into your plan.
my neighbor has lost 120 lbs over 3 times since I known her. She lost 120 and then agained 100 back. she lost then lost about 80 and couldn't get any further and she went to the Dr. and chatted with him and while he didn't want to give them to her either, she ended up getting them because she said if she didn't lose the last 40 lbs she was only going to backslide and put all back on. She got them and lost it. but like 2-3 years later all the weight crept back on. she ended up with a lap band and the amt. of pre-screening etc. she had to do for that was unreal, along with psych evaluation. with the lapband she has lost about 90 and is holding there. I didn't know as the lap band needs to be refilled as it opens up a bit and you can eat more and more, which she does. dieting in any form is a slippery slope. we got to confront the issues that go along with food and what triggers us or for the big majority of us we just aren't going to make it. I mean weight can be a horrible situation for so many and then the whole ''weight loss and maintenance'' is unreal!

{sigh} Just seeing this. Cindy, PLEASE don't let an unsupportive, knuckle-head, blubbering nonsense doctor make you feel "less than" anything. You ARE following a plan, you are naturally getting frustrated and trying to find something that helps you out right now. It's natural to grasp for anything you can when you REALLY are trying to feel better! I echo the other JB's thoughts on finding a doctor that will work with you out of respect, empathy and genuine desire to help. You will figure out what works for you! We are all right there with you cheering for you and hurting when you are. I love the posts babs & Ivy have up there. Haven't heard of the Relora but sounds like it's worth checking out!
PLEASE keep posting when you're stuck & need advice from the board. It's never a good thing to feel frustrated & alone. We love you & know this all can be figured out!!! ![]()
