Appetite suppressants

Does anyone take a prescription appetite suppressant? I'm considering getting a prescription from the doctor. I've taken adipex (sp?) before, a long time ago, but it definitely works wonders. I doubt I would even need a whole tablet, eod. Do you think that would be ok for a short-term thing?

I haven't decided definitely, but it's tempting. I never got addicted to them before, and in fact quit taking them long before I finished one bottle because they worked too well...I was hyper and couldn't eat at all. Now I'd welcome that eod.

I react badly to most stimulants (but not coffee and tea for some reason), so I'm not a fan of most appetite suppressants. I also think JUDDD works well enough to suppress the appetite after a while. That being said, it's all about how you feel and what you can tolerate. Keep us posted, whatever you decide. I always have friends looking for appetite suppressants and wouldn't mind a review or recommendation for them.

I have DD's that aren't too bad, but I've yet (that I can remember) to sail through them effortlessly. I feel like I'm really struggling almost every one. Even if I feel great at some point (usually the first part of the day), inevitably I get uncomfortably hungry most times...I can ride it out, but it would be so nice to not even THINK about eating. That feeling completely elludes me. I think way more about food on DD's than UD's.

Personally, I don't think they are a good idea. When you stop taking them you won't have developed a way to manage your hunger and you'll be right back where you started (hunger-wise).

Well, to be honest, no one should really have to learn to eat only 200-300 calories a day. I have learned to manage my hunger, for the most part, on UD's. I don't expect to have to do such low calorie DD's when I reach maintenance, or at least not eod.

I don't have any experience with Rx appetite suppressants (the side effects are usually quite terrifying!), but l-glutamine works very well for me. It has a lot of health benefits, and I've never had any bad side effects...I am *extremely* sensitive to stimulants (can't even drink 1/2 a cup of coffee EVER ), and just about everything gives me diarrhea (sorry for TMI!), so believe me, I would tell you if l-glut bothered me in any way!

I have a huge container of L-Glut in my pantry that I bought for other reasons, but it never affected my hunger. I take ptero too and it works, kinda...nothing seems to completely eradicate hunger though, and that's the holy grail I'm seeking.

Can you control your hunger by limiting or eliminating foods that make you want MORE! We all have those foods- for me bananas, cereal, salty snacks. I'm never having a serious celery, lettuce or cucumber craving. I enjoy them, but eat what I need with no compulsion for MORE! Are there trigger foods that are making it hard for you to reign it in?

No, I can do it. I'm not tearing my hair out or anything, but it's just work, lol. I just want to not dread the DD's and sail through them without a bit of hunger. I guess that's asking too much. If I could consistently do 200 calorie or even 300 calorie DD's, I could lose two lbs a week instead of oneISH. That would be nice.

Did you ever take, like, 20-25g/day?
Also, have you tried it recently? Who knows, maybe l-glut would have a different effect combined with JUDDD and/or ptero. Back when a friend & I were JUDDDing, we couldn't take l-glut on UDs because we couldn't eat anywhere near our calories!
(I don't mean to sound like I'm double-guessing or pestering you, just wondering! )

I feel your pain. I have alot of raging hunger DD's and keep going over my cals. Without sounding too 'unsupportive', I have watched many doco's on health & weightloss, and this is a subject raised alot. They just arn't good for you. I'm sure there are herbs that could help (as long as they are natural) but otherwise, they stuff your system up, kinda like laxitives. Your body gets used to them and once you stop, you may experience even worse hunger issues.
I am having one of these days today. I am eating a massive bowl of steamed vegetables. I find the high fibre in the food fills me up, I get plenty of 'chew factor', plus, they are good for me as well as low cal. I wish you luck with your DD's. There will be some kind of food out there for you that will help keep your cals down. Most people it seems (but not all), find carbs or sugar are the cause of their cravings. I agree with that. Some people are pro-protein. some pro-fat.
I'm pro-fibre

A little more experimenting is what you need, maybe try the DD threads, they have helped me with ideas. Keep us posted if you find something

This is my first dd and I'm hungry too . I didn't take pterostilbene today, but did take resveratrol . Not much help there. Gonna try both my next dd and hope for the best. Also really hope the scale rewards me . We'll see. So many love JUDDD I hope to love it too. Probably more tomorrow on my UD .

I sure can understand - I am cursed with a massive appetite and require lots of food (thus my poundage lol). I stuff myself silly on DDs with frankenfoods like gluc powder concoctions, oat fiber, shiritake, anything that is no- or low-calorie with lots of bulk. I make huge pots full of veggie soups. I eat almost no meat or fat on DDs because I can eat so many more veggies for the same amount of calories. I probably eat more on DDs quantity-wise than I do on UDs.

I've tried appetite suppressants in the past and they didn't do much for me.

FDA approval, sadly, isn't necessarily a guarantee of safety. Vioxx...FenPhen (or however it was spelled) just to name a few.
I don't have much to offer by way of ideas, being an extreme newbie, but would just like to offer a bit of suggestion to be careful with pills, prescription or OTC. I'm not a raging anti-pill crusader, but SO many diet pills have been pulled for safety reasons.

You may want to consider looking into the Shangri La Diet for appetite regulation. Very briefly, it involves eating "flavorless" calories to help reset your setpoint so that your body will regulate your appetite to match the new setpoint naturally. I'm not doing it at the moment, but it worked quite well for me for a while and for some people long term. There's a very active board and some people that combine it with intermittent fasting including JUDDD.

I am currently taking a tincture under the tongue from Bskinny, which sounds so cheezy, but it contains all these non stimulating compounds that I was interested in trying, and it actually seems to be helping. I'd casually tried various things before and this is the first that I feel is actually having an effect in helping me stay on track.

I think Diet Pills are bad for your heart. Enough for me to never touch them again. As someone said once your off them you have an appetite worse than before... so not worth it!

have you looked into hcg ??? your doctor can prescribe it as injections or drops. I watch a lot of the hcg videos on you tube and they rave about the appetite suppresent this gives them. Me I dont like putting things into my body

FDA approved, thats almost funny...

Have tried most over the years, not just for appetite suppressant, but to give a lift to exercise, as most will give you a buzz while training.

My problem is, that although I don't overeact to a reasonable dose, it seems to take for ever to clear my system, and a 6am dose is still disrupting my sleep the following night at 11pm.

Everyone is different, but its a pretty good bet, that if you get a buzz from coffee, these things will really have an effect.

I do have some favourites amongst the pack, but probably not the best arena to discuss.

The best appetite suppressant I found was a big glass of water, a cup of tea, tell my body that hunger is not an emergency but we will eat something else if we are still hungry in thirty minutes, then get busy doing something physical.

Usually, three hours later, I found I had been so engrossed in what I was doing I had completely forgotten about food.

If that didn't work, and I was still getting 'starving' signals after an hour or so I fixed a salad (lettuce chopped very fine, 1/2 oz protein, 1 tsp of full fat dressing) or a cup of broth with gluc dissolved in it.

I'm not having the difficulty I had in the beginning with DD's. I can do them, and most times it's fairly easy. But it's still like pushing a boulder up a hill, to quote Kristen (even though she probably wasn't talking about DD's). I always feel a sense of relief when I can finally go to bed and haven't eaten more than 500 calories. I'm sorry I made it sound as if I'm struggling all the time again...I just wanted some information, preferrably from someone else who tried it, about a.s.'s. For now, I'm going to push on through. I took L-Glut last night before bed and it might help. I tried to take some more this morning but couldn't stomach it. I'll try again later this morning.

I usually can get busy and not think about hunger in the first part of the day...it's the latter part after I've had all the calories I can have that gets tough sometimes. Again, it is not an emergency.

I belong to the dont-get-hungry-until-I-eat-solids team. Usually I drink my morning and afternoon calories. Not shakes, my bod cannot handle shakes, but smoothies and bone broth and coffee with hwc. I drink about 200 calories before dinner. And rarely get really hungry. I wonder if some pattern like that would help you?

When it comes to any "diet" pill or fix, I always default to something Oprah said many many years ago. Not always a huge fan of Oprah but what she said was: If there was a pill to fix it, make it easy or such, I would have it on my show and give it to the masses! ......

I sure wish there was a pill to make it all easy and level the playing field for each and every one of us. Unfortunately, nothing FDA or otherwise, comes that easy!

I had coffee this morning, Nancy and I'm fine. I have no hunger yet. I brought 16 oz of broth with me to work, so I will pull that out when I need it. Ironically, the first DD after writing this post, I'm not thinking about eating. We'll see how that carries through this evening. Thanks so much everyone.

I have DD ranges! If I am really struggling, I have a higher DD! I have never been like many here who can function on 300 or so calories. I have never had a DD under 500c and most DD's aren't below 600c. I can't concentrate some DD's at work and that can't happen. I also have to be very careful with my bloodsugar. On DD's I can crash hard and that isn't good for me or anyone around me!

That is a good description of my early down days. I don't need to do that as much anymore. I can't remember the last time I needed to fill out a DD dish with shirataki, but it DID help me at the time. If I felt that kind of gnawing hunger again, I would absolutely reach for the gluc powder. It was my salvation.
