DS starting JUDDD! DD calorie questions?

My DS decided to start JUDDing with me last night. His first DD is today, but we have a question about his DD calories. The JUDDD calculator says 597, but does he have to do only 500 to start for the first 2 weeks, thought I had read that somewhere but might be confusing 2 WOE

adillenal 01-21-2013 09:52 AM

In the book he suggests doing 500 calories for the first two weeks but he also recommends using shakes (which I did) but not many people do.

LoCarbGal 01-21-2013 09:53 AM

How exciting! Good luck to him! I would say that he could start at the higher, calculator number. Guys will lose so much easier anyway.

:-) thanks ladies!

Good for him! He should have a much easier weight loss, if he is like some of the other men around here! :)

I hope so!! 500 or 597 calories is going to be hard for him! I can't wait to see how he is feeling tonight with that little food, not.

KeirasMom 01-21-2013 10:48 AM

How old is he? Is he still growing? I know there have been recommendations in the past for teens to stick closer to 1000 on DDs since they need so much more than we do, especially growing boys. ;) I definitely would say not to go under the 597 to start. I believe the 500 recommended to start is for those of us who had much lower starting numbers, to be able to work down from there.

I agree with Dawn, what is his age? I don't think most men need to eat at 500c level and still do amazing!

Aww, thank you!

zipp2play 01-21-2013 11:07 AM

At that age, I am guessing if he just follows the calories as noted, he will have HUGE success!

Yep, he's gonna do great! (then again, so is his momma!) Yay!!!

Kissa 01-22-2013 06:04 AM

How great that he is joining you. He will lose so fast you may grow to hate him.:rofl::rofl:

Librarygirl 01-22-2013 05:02 PM

That's fantastic Tex!! Yes, I agree with everyone. The 500 cals for 2 wks was supposed to be a higher DD for those of us who needed to go lower eventually. He should probably start at 700 or higher, since most of us did about 200 calories over what we "should" have been (for 2 wks).

hot-in-texas 01-22-2013 05:28 PM

Thanks for all the help. He had 600 calories yesterday, wasn't hungry and slept like a baby last night.

hot-in-texas 01-24-2013 09:25 AM

Well, he is doing good so far, and I don't know if he has lost any, but I'm pretty sure he weighed himself this am so I will ask him leter. I hope he has lost cuz I really want him to stick with this and not get frustrated. He lost 60 ppounds doing P90X 2 years ago, but gained it back :(
Only problem is, I am counting his calories for him!! And telling him what to eat,etc... :p

sdjade 01-24-2013 03:17 PM

Once he gets the hang of what makes up 600 calories, I'm sure he will be fine. I still help keep track of DD calories for my DH and he has been doing this for 8 months now! :)

Wow, 60lbs on P90X is a great! Keeping it off is always the hardest. :( Has he thought about starting up a workout routine while JUDDDing? I think lifting weights has slowed my weight loss some, but I like how my body looks when it is more toned.

gotitnow 01-25-2013 06:33 PM

:hiya:Hi Tex, Thought I would mention to you that I have been "helping" my granddaughter do JUDDD with me. Like you, I am counting for her and helping her with food choices. I have had her on a much more relaxed plan as far as number of calories because she is 14. (she is the grand we raised)

Anyway, she has lost 15lbs. and is thrilled. She is 5' 9" tall and really does'nt need to lose anymore, but wants to. This has been very slow (on purpose) and I am so proud she has stuck with it.

I am guessing that's tough for a 21 yr. old, depending on his social calendar. We did start over a couple of times, and I told her if I was going to be involved, she needed to stick to it, or she could do it all on her own! (I am soo tough, you know?:annoyed::hyst:)

Wanted to get a new avi with her in it with me, but just haven't done it yet. I'm so happy for her and can tell it has really boosted her confidence.

Hope your son has found it doable and will have success. We are pulling for him!

Love ya JUDDD BUDDs, Phyl (and Paige):heart:

Carly 01-25-2013 09:03 PM

Paige is one lucky young lady.
I just have to say how much I adore you Phyl!
Tex how is DS doing? I still help DW count and make food choices, but I have also learned when I just need to shut my trap- IYKWIM.

gotitnow 01-25-2013 09:38 PM

Aww, that's sweet of you to say. It has been fun to have a little partner! Little I say, she is a good 4" taller! She will always be my baby-girl though.:)

We have had fun shopping together, although she is still young "minded" enough to want to get-n-go and I could shop till I drop!:stars:

I like to get out and about and she loves internet shopping. I don't mind that some of the time, but really love the whole shopping experience!

Phyl:heart:

hot-in-texas 01-26-2013 08:15 AM

That's so great Phyl! I hope you do get to post a photo!
Jade he is definitely going to try to fit in some weight lifting! He looked and felt SO great after doing the P90.
He is doing good Carly. He weighs himself on Monday before starting, first thing in the morning, and then he weighed himself Friday evening, and there was a 5 pound difference.
He is helping with the calories somewhat. He is very into it and making sure he gets the right amount, and is even stressing about it a little, but he still relies in me to confirm everything lol

Flutter 01-26-2013 11:11 AM

awwww, so happy to hear he's doing well, tex!

phyl, that is so lovely about your DGD! Kids that age are so much fun! My middle son is also 14.
