Maintenance & JUDDD
To all of our lovely & successful JUDDD budds!
I have a way to go, but have been pondering about maintenance quite a bit lately. Something that Carly brought up, has me even more curious. ![]() For all of our successful JUDDD budds that have arrived at maintenance or goal weight. What are your UD/DD numbers now that you have arrived at goal? Thank you for all of your help & support! |

Hi Sunday,
For me it's about 2000 cals 5 days a week on my UP days, and 500 or so on my two DD's. |

I'm trying 1800/800 and have been staying lower than that on DDs (around 600 or so) but I've gained back 2 pounds. Not sure what I'm going to do.

Thanks everyone!
![]() My hope is to hear from many more JUDDD budds who have been maintaining a while. I saw Tina post about what she is doing on another thread and I know that we have many who drop in now and then. ![]() I am asking this, because I have heard some of our JUDDDers who are very close to maintenance make the statement that they thought they would still be doing extremely low DDs (300 or less) during maintenance. I don't think this is right. Or at least I never understood this from Dr. Johnson's book, so I hope that is not what maintenance is? I was planning on doing 700-800 DDs, which is what I did during maintenance breaks. For the last 2 weeks, I have been fasting daily 16 hours, plus JUDDD, which may be extreme, but I thought I would see if I like the 8 hour window and possibly just transition from JUDDD into this form of IF for maintenance, because there is no counting calories, just stay within a time frame. I also began watching the 5:2 plan because that would even be easier than the 8 hour plan. ![]() I appreciate all of our budds for weighing in on this, because it seems like such a long road. As we near the end of our trip, it is good to know what lies around the bend.

My UD at goal is 1544. That is just probably a bit low for some UDs so I think that I would prefer to have 3 low DDs (300-400) and have UDs of about 1750. I also worry that a DD of 700 just wont keep my NSVs alive. I have also said that it is easier for me to not eat than try to figure out a 700 calorie day.

Well i am not one of the long time maintance girls but.. The break i have chose to take is as follows..
I eat what ever, dont count anything .. mind you im not over indulging in any thing just eat what ever when hungry.. and hop on the scale every day.. I play with 4 pounds.. When i get close to up by 4 i do a down day of about 500 calories or so. that usally bounces it back down.. So i want to be able to eat like a normal person and live rather a normal life with out thinking which day is it.. This has worked for me so far, but i belive in part being mind full of the weight every day keeps this at bay.. I cant imagine what would happen if i were to NOT hop on the scale every day.. Not much help im sure, but i wanted to tell you what ive done in maintance~

![]() I believe that either 5:2 OR 8 hour window will keep your NSVs going to the point that you can quit counting. Carly, in essence you are doing 8 hour window. You don't eat breakfast, and you fast for 16 hours before your first meal. Kimberly, I see that this is suiting you well. You feel good and I am elated that you have arrived at the goal you planned! Dawn, I can't say enough about all that you have taught all of us. I will say this again, you have been invaluable learning for the new JUDDDers. I am so excited to watch your plan and believe that it will work just like JUDDD has so far, with your health in top shape. |

Adi, Didn't your weight stabilize quite well when you went into maintenance? I am curious to know if you counted or just ate low EOD?

I just love JUDDD. I don't feel a need to do anything differently at goal other than stop losing weight, but I definately don't want to gain. I would love to have MWF low DDs and T,TH,S,S eat whatever with in reason. I will probably add coffee back to DDs at goal since I do miss this, but hate to spend calories on cream in WLM so that will bump DDs up by almost 100 calories I guess.

I don't mind very low calories every other day so I can splurge on UD's. I am back to WLM for a bit just to see if I can see that elusive 139 on the scale which I haven't seen since DS was born 23 years ago so I am watching UD calories although they are higher than 1541 and I am SLOWLY creeping downward.

Mom23kids, funny you mentioned the 6:1 plan because I'm thinking of experimenting with that next. I started out maintaining on 5:2 very easily but have since started body flex breathing (about 3 weeks now), and have actually lost 2 more lbs. (at the low end of the healthy weight window so don't want to lose anymore). I actually think its the combo of JUDDD & BF that has made this so easily maintainable though. Will start 6:1 next month.

I haven't actually logged anything in so long I don't really know what I'm doing. LOL
My goal is around 1500-1600 on UD's, 600-800 on dd's. And this is what I was doing when I was counting. I guess I more use the scale as my guide now. I eat when I'm hungry, and if the scale gets to where I'm not comfortable, I stick in a couple rotations with good dd's and get things in control. But I feel like I'm always in this cycle of loosening up, cravings gearing up and then needing to reign it back in. NOt sure how healthy that is. But remember, I'm one who has more trouble getting my UD calories in, rather than having UUAD's. I would be perfectly happy with 1200 cals every day. And was for many months when I was doing paleo, with no calorie cycling. But I stalled there and pretty sure I had metabolism sluggishness too. I also like the nsv's of anti-inflammation, less joint pain, and such, so don't want to lose that.

I lost the motivation to keep doing 500 calorie DD's so I guess I am in maintenance. Anyway, my approach recently has been, instead of DD's, to do egg and vegetable days. (I started with only eggs, but after a while that made me ill, as in Return of the Eggs. So now it is eggs and vegetables) I try to keep it around 1,000 calories but if I have a lot to do at night and feel like I need energy then I will eat more. And I have been trying to be mindful of not eating a ton of food on UD's and avoiding sugar, although I find that when I eat more on DD's, I eat less on UD's. This seems to be working for me so far, although I'm not sure it's a lifelong approach.

I have been maintaining on JUDDD since 2011. In maintainance I have done 3 dd 3 UD and 1 md. approx 500 on dd, 2200 on UD and 1200 on medium days.
I am now trying 5:2, to see if I can get away with just 2 dd. 2 weeks in, I am dead on goal of 133, since reaching goal, JUDDD has kept me within 3lbs either side of my 133 ideal. If 5:2 leads to gain I will just add in an extra dd. Like a previous poster, I would rather stick to the original low 500 cal dd, and continue with my nice high up days. After all this time, I am so used to 500 dd's, 1000 cals wouldn't feel " right"! Also, the anti inflammation benefits of JUDDD have practically eliminated my severe period pain, and I don't want to lose that benefit! Hugs Jo X

I everybuddy! My maintenance began April 2012. I always stayed in my 3lb. range doing Mon.,Wed., and Fri. DDs with about 750-950 cals. UDs were Tues., Thurs., and Sun., with 1750-1950 cals. I used Sat. as a MD with 1200-1300 cals.I decided to lose about 5lbs. more after the holidays were over. Just want a little more wiggle room. I am pretty happy where I am, so that takes the pressure off! As crazy as this sounds, after being in maintenance 8 or 9 mos., it has actually been sort of fun again! Who would ever imagine any weight loss plan remotely fun!?! ![]() Will prob. need to tweak my numbers just a little after losing more, or exercise a bit more! I think I started seeing the high end of my maintenance range because my exercise level dropped off due to some illness. My exercise will consist of walking, swimming, and some toning exercises with light weights. It's pretty low-impact for me these days! ![]() I am intrigued by how many enjoy such low DDs. I was not one that could easily tolerate under about 400-450. I always got sick. Thankfully, I was able to lose with more like 500-650 and even 700 early on. With so little to lose now, tho, I have been staying strictly at 400-500 DDs. (UDs strict 1500). If I had been able to lose with lower DDs I'm sure it may have been quicker? Who knows I really just enjoyed the ride!!! And still do!!! Didn't mean to write a book! ![]() (At 5' 5 1/4" tall, maintained 136-140 easily....working toward 132-136!) Hope this is helpful! Thanks for all the great posts, everyone. I love reading maintenance threads.
I said I was going to go into maintenance but I haven't actually changed anything. I want to hit my low maintenance # and now that I'm at my original goal I'm thinking I might want to go lower. I have plenty of room in my ideal weight range for my height to do that. I'm also a little scared to change things and start gaining, to be honest. |

I can't tell you all how valuable this list is to me.
![]() Phyl & Tina, I had a feeling that I may be doing something similar to both of you when I reach goal. I can remain at very low DDs for short term, but looking at the goal & beyond, I should be able to enjoy life. Plus, I suspect that my avg daily cals should fall in the 1500 range. Right now, I am at 950 and that is not going to be where I should be living long term. ![]() I love the fact that it worked so effortlessly for all of you and thank you for coming back to let new JUDDDers know how truly amazing this JUDDD life is. ![]() |

Bit late getting back, life is a bit fragmented at the moment.
I have been maintaining for over a year at within 3 lbs each side of my goal. Like most of us I am happier at the lower end of that range, but I don't beat myself up when I see the higher numbers. I prefer to keep my DDs low because my taste lead to high UDs quite often. I also want my metabolism to get plenty of bounces to keep it 'on edge'. But we are all different. If there is one thing I have learned here it is that we all find the right path for us. Provided we keep on keeping on.

I would rather not count calories for all time. More accurately, I would rather this subject of weight did not require such a great percentage of my attention. But. But. As soon as I slide upward on UDs, my weight goes up. As soon as I slide on strict rotations, my weight goes up. As soon as I stop weighing, my weight goes up. I have considered picking a higher goal weight in order to relax on all this, but I do love the way I feel when lighter. So. Right now I rotate until I don't respond well to the calorie limits, at which point I either do a hack or all hell breaks loose. At which point I gain and start all over. I'm still learning. And it ain't a peaceful ride, yet. That's about the only thing I can say today. And I still love learning from the rest of you. ![]()

A while ago, Cindy said that she was just eating way more than she needed before JUDDD. Me too. And it is still my inclination. I would love to wake up one day, after all this JUDDD practice, and only desire what I need.

Switched to 5:2 a few weeks ago. I'm doing 1786 calories on UDs (Dr. Johnson's calculated UD number) and usually around 350 on Tuesdays and Fridays. So far, it's working beautifully, keeping me between 161 and 164.
